The map above shows the location
of the State Hospital Grounds & the cemetery grounds on
California Street. Locate the Rural Cemetery, and you will find
the State Asylum cemetery (magenta color) just below, in the
open area that includes Oak Park Hospital (small area jutting out at
bottom of the highlighted area. The asylum cemetery is the open
area to the left of the area that jutts into California St.
Following is the legal
description of the properties. Parcel one (1) is the parcel
that is said to contain all the burial ground.
The legal description reads:
Parcel One (1):
Beginning at the southeast corner of Section 18 of C. M. Weber's
"El Rancho Del Campo de Los Francesses"; thence N. 16º
55' W., 1147.74 feet along the west property line of the rural
cemetery to a point, said point bearing S. 16º 55' E., 200.50
from the southeast corner of the Oak Park Court Subdivision;
thence S. 73º 05' W., 190 feet; thence S. 16º 55' E.,
1147.74 feet; thence, N. 73º 05', 190 feet to the point of beginning.
Said parcel containing 5 acres.
Parcel Two (2):
Beginning at a point on the south property line of Section 18 of C.
M. Weber's "El Rancho Del Campo de Los Francesses", said
point bearing S. 73º 05' W., 190 feet from the southeast corner
of said Section 18; thence, N. 16º 55' W., 1147.74 feet; thence,
S. 73º 05' W., 380.50 feet to the center of California Street;
thence S. 16º 55' E., 1147.74 feet along the center line of said
street; thence, N. 73º 05' E., 380.50 feet to the point of beginning.
