Roosters Breakfast Buffet Announcement    You look at your watch, 4:30 a.m., the sun won't be up for another hour, but you will wait for that perfect shot when the pheasants start too feed at the first light of day. Thinking of feeding, you should have fed yourself before you headed out the door this morning, but it is to late, you are already set and waiting. What did that flyer say I put it my pocket when I bought my coffee at the quik-trip. Let me get my flash light out and read it, I think it said something about breakfast at 5 a.m.

HUNTERS BREAKFAST BUFFET
starting at 5 a.m. till 9 a.m. at the
Granada Community Complex.

That sounds like a good idea, I can feed my hunger and still get back before the sun comes up.
Hunters, are you looking for a good home cooked meal and a place to get fed quick and still make it to the blind in time for that first shot or need a boost after being out before sunrise?
The Granada Pride Committee will provide a breakfast buffet starting at 5 a.m. and close at 9 a.m., starting on Saturday, November 10th & Sunday, November 11th at the Granada Community Complex. This will continue each Saturday & Sunday through November 25th.
The menu will consist of: Sausage, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, Green Chili, Pancakes, Muffins, Biscuits & Gravy, Hash Browns, Toast, Coffee and Juice.
The All-You-Can-Eat Buffet will cost $7.00 per plate and is open for any early risers, who would like to get up and eat a good breakfast.

I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

My name is OLDE GLORY.

I fly atop the world's tallest buildings, I stand watch in America's Halls of Justice. I fly majestically over Great Institutions of Learning.
I stand guard with the Greatest Military power in the World.

LOOK UP! and see ME!!!

I stand for Peace Honor Truth and Justice. I stand for Freedom!!

I am confident, I am arrogant, I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is held a little higher - my colors are a little truer

I BOW TO NO ONE!

I am recognized all over the world. I am saluted - I am respected - I am loved - I am Feared!!
For more than 200 years, I have fought in Every battle of Every war;
Gettysburg, Shiloh, Appomattox, San Juan Hill, The Trenches of France, the Argenne Forest, Anzio, Rome, The Beaches of Normandy, the jungles of Guam, Okinawa, Tarawa, Korea, Vietnam and in the heat of the Persian Gulf and a score of other places.
Long forgotten by all, but those who were there with me. I was there. I led my Sailors and Marines, I follow them, I watch over them, they Love Me.
I was on a small hill on Iwo Jima. I was dirty battle torn and tired but my Sailors and Marines Cheered Me!!!!

I WAS PROUD!

I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries that I have helped to set Free.
It does not Hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my own country
And when it is done by those whom with I have served in battle. It HURTS!!!
But I shall Overcome for I am strong!!
I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and, from my vantage point on the moon, I stand watch over the New Frontiers of Space. I have been the silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hour comes when I am torn into strips, To be used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the Field of Battle
When I fly half mast to Honor my Sailors and Marines and when I lie in the trembling arms of a Grieving Mother - at the graveside of her fallen son or daughter

I am proud!

My Name is "Olde Glory"
Long May I Wave Dear God, Long may I wave.

LOCAL HISTORY

Lloyd, Ella Rae, Mary Belle and Lenny Houston moved to Bristol, CO in 1955, from Tribune, KS to be closer to the land they farmed in Prowers and Kiowa counties. They had been farming this land for two years prior to this, by living in small trailers while farming. The kids enjoyed these campouts, but it got plenty warm sometimes.
Mary Belle and Lenny attended the Bristol school and Lenny's was the last 8th grade class to graduate from Bristol. Lenny started driving a tractor when he was pretty small, like all the farm kids in this area. Mary Belle helped out when needed, mostly during wheat harvest. Ella Rae was the GOPHER.
After losing their daughter in 1970, they decided to try their hand at the grocery store business. The Houston's ran the Bristol Store for several years. One thing you learn is not to put the money bag in the oven for safe keeping; especially, if you are having company for dinner the next day. Ella Rae turned on the oven and forgot about the money until they smelled something odd. Talk about hot cash, some of the bills and checks were slightly scorched, but the bank still took them, she was very embarrassed.
Many local kids helped run the store for Lloyd & Ella Rae. Carolyn and Cindy Carr were their standbys, when they wanted to take a trip. A niece, Barbara Selby, also Sherril McMichael and Shirely Ortiz were employed. It was a good place for the ladies to talk things over. The men had Babe's Shop and the Co-op for their gossip center.
Lloyd was secretary for the Bristol Water and Sanitation District, so the store was a handy place for the people to pay their water bills. The little kids loved to come in and buy penny candy; they would count their pennies, then the candy. With regret, they closed the store in the latter part of 1975.
In 1976, The Houston's purchased a home in Phoenix, AZ to live in the winter time. Lloyd had arthritis and this got them out of the cold Colorado weather. They still came back to Bristol in the summer to farm with their son. They lost him in 1981 and a few years later, the farm was put into CRP. They still came back home in the summer; it is always great, when they would get close and see the wide open plains.
Lloyd & Ella Rae moved out of Phoenix in 1996 to a small town, Congress, AZ, but still love coming back to Bristol, CO.
In 1999, Ella Rae lost Lloyd and now she makes the trip with a family member.

RANCH RODEO

The Fall Ranch Rodeo held on October 7 at the End of the Line Arena, by the Granada Pride Committee, brought in some new faces along with those we have seen before.
There were seven teams that participated: True Grit, Windbreak Outlaws, Load'em In the Dark, Sand Creek Ranch, D Triangle, The Has Beens and Trackside Outlaws.
It was a beautiful fall day for this fundraiser and the crowd of spectators enjoyed the nice weather and the entertainment. Which included a Woman's Barrel Race and a Kids Mutton Busting along with the Ranch Rodeo.
The D Triangle Team took 1st place; with the five cowboys being: Rich Lymon, John Simons, Dave Simons, John Anderson and Jeremy King.
Load'em In the Dark placed 2nd and their five cowboys were: Dallas Warnock, Jeff Turner, Ty Weber, Lance LaRue and Casey Warnock.
In 3rd place was the Sand Creek Ranch, which consisted of: Gary Wollert, Rick Wollert, Waco Wollert, Thane Meleski and Gary Schwartz.
Windbreak Nite Club of Syracuse, Kansas sponsored the Bareback Barrel Race for the cowboys following the Rodeo.
The Pride Committee would like to thank everyone who helped with the judging, set-up, paperwork, livestock handling and the many of other jobs it takes to put this rodeo together and make it a success.

MEDICATION TAKEN AT SCHOOL

There has been some questions about the requirements for the administering of medication at school, either prescription or over-the-counter medication.
Colorado law states that if it becomes necessary for a student to take any form of medication at school, these steps must be followed:
  1. Written authorization from a physician for the school stating the student's NAME, MEDICATION, DOSAGE, TIME TO BE GIVEN, AND FOR HOW MANY DAYS.
  2. Medication properly identified and in its ORIGINAL pharmacy labeled container.
  3. Written permission by the parents giving the school district authorization to assist with medication.

NO MEDICATION, PRESCRIPTION OR OVER-THE-COUNTER, SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED BY ANY SCHOOL OR CHILD CARE PERSONNEL EXCEPT ON WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION OR A PHYSICIAN.

Written authorization for both prescribed and over-the-counter medications should include the following:

  • CHILD'S NAME
  • NAME OF MEDICATION
  • DATE OF AUTHORIZATION
  • DATE OF PRESCRIPTION
  • PHYSICIAN'S NAME AND SIGNATURE DOSAGE
  • HOW THE MEDICATION IS TO BE GIVEN
  • WHEN MEDICATION IS TO BE GIVEN
  • SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS PERTINENT TO THE CHILD AND MEDICATION GIVEN
  • EXPIRATION DATE OF THE MEDICATION
  • POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF MEDICATION
  • POSSIBLE ADVERSE REACTIONS TO THE MEDICATION
Medication can only be legally given by the school nurse or by school personnel whom the school nurse has trained and delegated the task of giving medication.
If you have any questions, call 336-8721 and ask for Tammie Clark or Delaine Dunning.
