Photo of flood damage on 385 highway bridge
This picture is of the 385 highway bridge going over Wolf Creek on the north edge of Granada's city limits. On July 5, 2002 the rain came down...and down some more. After the drought this area has been in, the water took the least path of resistance, right down Wolf Creek picking up everything in its path. As you can see, many trees were uprooted along the way and any debris that was in the creek or on it's banks ended up log jammed under this bridge.
Where Wolf Creek's headwaters begin, southwest of Lamar, received the most rain and then along the way to the river, more rain fell. Increasing the volume of water rolling towards Granada and the river. At 10:30 pm Friday night the water slammed into the bridge, causing bracing to crack. The bridge is up for renewal this fall, but now CDOT will be re-examining their plans, since it has now been closed to one lane traffic.

Water rotation is going on in the Town of Granada.

Even days north of the tracks.
Odd days south of the tracks.

Limit yard water between the hours of 10 am to 4 pm. If you are watering during these hours, you are losing 50% of your water due to evaporation. This means you are paying for water that is not reaching you lawn. This policy will be reviewed in two weeks.

FUN HAD BY ALL
Granada/Bristol Day

On Saturday, June 15th, the Granada/Bristol Community came together and celebrated the 11th Annual Granada/Bristol Day on Main Street in Granada.
The first event of the morning was the Amache/Run Walk. Colorado East Bank & Trust sponsored this event. Trophy winners were: David Vigil in the Men's Walk, and Regina Smith in the Women's Walk. Sharon Grasmick was the lucky winner of a $50 savings bond from CEB&T.
As the morning progressed, many young children were present at the Granada track field to participate in Argie's Famous Flyover. Granada Bucks were given to all who caught a tissue that fell from the sky! In the parade were beautiful cars, a police car, fire trucks, an ambulance, tractors, bicycles, a baby carriage, and a horse-drawn wagon. Politicians present were: Mayor Ron Grasmick, Representative Brad Young, and Tony Peck, Democratic Sheriff Candidate. The Granada Pioneer Float was well represented by Cricket & Mildred Barber, Leora Creech, Ray Estrada and Clyde & Marie Kennedy. The Granada/Bristol Community appreciates all who participated in this year's parade.
Everyone enjoyed watching the frog and turtle race, which CEB&T sponsored. In the frog race Brelle Smith had the fastest frog, and Traegon Erdman was the winner with the slow poke frog. Three turtles showed up to compete to see who was the fastest. Kayla Barber had the fastest turtle, while Addison Harper had the slow poke. Each were given water guns for their prizes.
The Granada Senior Citizens sold pies in the Granada Community Complex, where everyone enjoyed sitting down and visiting with alumni and neighbors. The Granada Police department sponsored a free Child Identification service for all area youths.
The Granada Pride Committee sponsored the Pony Plop, and Gary Tyree was the winner! In the horseshoe tournament, five contestants battled and John Gruenloh won the championship. Other games and activities were held on Main Street, and people of all ages enjoyed playing and winning prizes at the various booths.
J&S Graphic Design of Holly, printed the Granada/Bristol Day tee shirts, Amache Run/Walk shirts, and Granada/Bristol Day hats. The committee sold many of these items during the day, and there are shirts and hats at the Granada Stop 2 Shop for sale.
In the afternoon the volleyball tournament began with 6 teams competing for the championship. The Rincon Team won this year's round-robin tournament. The champions of the volleyball tournament were given shirts designed and donated by Junior and Stephanie Gonzales of J&S Graphic Designs. While the volleyball tournament was going on the crowd was entertained with music provided by the Justin Lundy Family.
Many of the visiting alumni and local people attended the Alumni Reception and Banquet that was held at the Granada School.
The Granada/Bristol Day Committee enjoys sponsoring this event where the community can get together, have fun, welcome the alumni, and renew old and new acquaintances. They would like to thank everyone involved with helping make the 11th Annual Granada/Bristol Day a fun and enjoyable day!

Granada's New Loan Officer

My name is Dean R. Neill and I am the "new guy" to CEB&T here in Granada. I am married to a wonderful lady named Dawn. I have three great children: my son ,Garrett, who is soon to be 14, my daughters: Kelli, 12, and Amy who is 10.
I have lived in Holly almost all my life. My wife has been a teacher in Granada for many years. I used to farm/ranch in the Holly and Coolidge, Kansas area for over 20 years.
Through a series of "setbacks", I decided to go to college and get into Ag banking. I have previously worked at Valley State Bank in Syracuse, KS for three years.
I will be attempting to fill the huge vacancy left by Ken Perry's move to the hills. Big, big shoes to fill. Martin, Ken and all the fellow employees will be helping me learn the new system of banking with CEB&T.

Colorado East Bank & Trust will be holding an open house for their new loan officer, Dean Neill, in Granada on August 2nd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
