age 83 of Hephzibah, Ga., died 9-20-2001 at the Georgia War Veterans
Nursing Home. Husband of Carolyn W. Baber; Son, Arthur E. Baber,
III; daughter, Paula B. Poss, Augusta; sisters, Mildred B. Jackson,
Martinez, Mary B. Pritchard, Martinez and Jean B. Sizemore,
Augusta. Interment in the Westover Memorial Park. He was a native
of Greenville, SC but lived most of his life in Hephzibah. Member
of Hephzibah United Methodist Church. Retired salesman in the
builder supply business. WWII Veteran served his country in the US
Army Coprs. An avid fisherman. Platts Funeral home in charge.
Baber, Horace G. "Sam",
age 73 of Newburg, Maine died 3-16-1985 at Bagar hospital.
Interment in maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, Maine.
Native of Spartanburg, SC. Retired Mast. Sergeant of the US Air
Force-Veteran WWII and the Korean War. Member of American
Association of Retired Persons. Wife, Mildred P. Carmichael Baber;
son, Randall E. Baber, Augusta; daughters, Betty Thomas and Patricia
Putnam; stepson-Master Sgt. Charles H. Sechrest, Jr. Eglin, Air
Force Base, Florida; brother, Arthur Baber, sisters, Mildred
Jackson, Mary Pritchard and Jean Sizemore all of Augusta, Ga.
Barefield, Hugh Lamar,
Grovetown, Ga, husband of Carolyn Chavous Barefield, died 1-30-2008
at the Medical College of Georgia. He was an automotive repair
technician with the Richmond County Fire Department.
Bryson, Dr. Robert E.,
age 55, died 6-4-1941 at his residence, 220 Greene Street, after an
illness of a few hours. Lived in Augusta, Ga all his life, graduate
of Sacred Heart of Augusta College and obtained his Medical degree
at the University of Georgia School of Medicine, also taught
dermatology at the Medical College. Survivors, son, E. Hampton
Bryson; brothers, Judge Joseph E. Bryson, Augusta, Ga, Tom Bryson,
Atlanta, Ga; sisters, Mrs. Hampton Hankinson and Mrs. Eugene Beall
of Augusta Ga.
Bush, Christian
Alonzo - age 30, 1253 Walker Street, died at
University hospital of injuries suffered Saturday night (1-8-1942) when he was
struck by an automobile on the 500 block of Thirteenth street.
Mr. C. M. Henderson, 941 Meigs street was charged with involuntary
manslaughter. The body will remain at the residence of his
uncle, Mr. Olin Bush of 1254 Walker Street. Funeral services
at Elliott's Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon. Interment
in the West View Cemetery. Surviving Mrs. Bush are his mother,
Mrs. Suley Kelly of Augusta; four uncles, Olin Bush of Augusta,
Frank Bush of Greenville, SC, Will Bush of Johnston, SC and Vester
Johnson of Augusta, Ga; four aunts, Mrs. Annie Johnson of Augusta,
Mrs. Mary Bush of Augusta , Mrs. Viola Bush of Greenville and
Mrs. Florence Bush of Johnston.
Calvert, Courtney, age
83, husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Calvert, died 2-1-2008. Native of
Flint Michigan. Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home.
Cannon,
Sr., Deacon Jerry Henry, age 101, formerly of 419
Carpentersville Road,North Augusta, SC, entered into rest January
18, 2009 at Trinity Hospital, Augusta, Georgia, after a brief
illness. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 24,
2009 at 2:00 p.m. from First Providence Baptist Church, 315 Barton
Road, North Augusta, SC, with the Rev. Dr. Alexander Pope, Jr.,
officiating. Interment will be in Walker Memorial Park. The family
will receive friends this evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral
home. Deacon Jerry Cannon was born September 5, 1907, in Hamburg,
S.C. to the late John and Elizabeth Cannon. He was preceded in death
by three brothers and one sister. Deacon Cannon accepted Jesus
Christ on Sunday, November 2, 1920 at the age of 13, at First
Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E. W.
Williams and was a faithful and devoted member, serving 87 years.
Deacon Cannon served on the Trustees Ministry and was ordained as a
Deacon in 1962, where he served for 45 years. Deacon Cannon served
as chairman of the Deacons Ministry for 13 years. He later, joined
the Ushers Ministry and served as President for 13 years. He retired
from Blanchard and Calhoun Realty Company. He was also a Masonic
member. Survivors include Mrs. Mary Freeman and their children, four
daughters, Jerrolyn F. Hicks, Janie F. Crawford, Elaine F. (Ronnie)
O'Neal, Vanessa F. (King) Merriweather; three sons, Earl B. Freeman,
Henry A. (Jacqueline) Freeman, and Dr. Maurice J. Freeman.
Carmichael, Elizabeth Eve,
age 80, died at her residence, 1227 Meigs St., on 2-27-1961 after an
extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Paul E.
Carmichael and Sarah Stiles Carmichael. Survivors include,
nephews, Paul N. Carmichael, Boston, Mass., Rear Adm. George K.
Carmichael, USN, and Howard M. Leither, Augusta. She was a member of
the first Presbyterian Church and a native of Richmond County.
Interment in Cottage Cemetery.
Carroll, John C. -
died January 2, 1939 at the age of 68. Interment in West View
Cemetery.
Collins, Sarah Mae Williams,
age 86, of 1414 Newmantown Rd, died 1-29-2008. Interment in
New Appling Grove Baptist Church. Native of Columbia County.
Glover, Walter, age 64
died 1-30-1922 at University Hospital after an illness of six
months. Funeral services at R. E. Elliott and Sons funeral
chapel. Interment in the West View Cemetery. Survivors:
one brother, Samuel Glover; one uncle, Joseph Glover; and two aunts,
Mrs. Mary Glover, Augusta and Mrs. Eliza Cameron, Atlanta.
Glover,
William J., died 1-25-1927 at a local
infirmary following an illness of ten weeks. Elliott & Sons funeral
home in charge. Interment in the city cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth A. Glover; daughter, Margaret
Glover; father and mother; brother, J. M. Glover; sisters, Mrs. Pat
Jennings and Mrs. O. H. Houser. Note: I think this is William
Joseph Glover born 1896.
Goodwin, Jake, died
in a local infirmary on 3-21-1961. Husband of Mattie Kitchens
Goodwin. Funeral services at Platts Chapel. Interment in West View
Cemetery. Lived at 408 Milledge Road. Son of Jake Cauley and
Loamie Hurt Goodwin. Native of Saluda, SC but resided in Augusta
most of his life. Retired, a former textile worker for the King
Mill. Son, Jake Goodwin, Augusta; daughter, Elease Barber, Augusta.
Goodwin,
Mattie Kitchens, wife of Jake Goodwin of 408 Milledge Road,
died Monday (7-11-1960) in a local infirmary. She lived in Augusta,
Georgia fifty years. Daughter of Augustus Kitchesn of Georgia.
Member of the Central Christian Church. Daughter, Mrs. Elease
Barber of Augusta, Georgia; son, James Goodwin; sisters, Mrs. Troy
Agnew, Mrs. W. R. Deer and Alice Thigpen all of Augusta, Ga.;
brother, Lummy Kitchen, Canady, SC. Interment in West View
Cemetery. Platt's Chapel funeral services.
Hankinson, J. Lee, age 59, a leading
figure in the brick and tile industry died of an acute heart attack
7-9-1931. He was found by the cleaning crew in his office on
the fourth floor of the Southern Finance Corporation building.
Battled with heart trouble for several years. He had just
returned from his fathers home who is ill, L. H. Hankinson.
Born in Beech Island, SC and when a young boy went to Atlanta, Ga
and was educated in the public schools later graduated from The
Citadel, Charleston, SC. He returned to Augusta, Ga and
entered the brick business. President for many years at the
Georgia Carolina Brick Company. Retired several months ago.
Member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Husband of Mrs. Bennie
Smythe Hankinson; daughters, Mrs. John Gregg of Minneapolis, Minn.,
Mrs. Stewart Phinizy, Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Robert Goodwin, Jr.,
Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. John Foster, Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Tom
Stafford, Augusta, Ga., Mrs. William Dobson, Beech Island, SC.
He was the son of L. H. Hankinson and had one son, Leroy Hankinson
of New York. Brother, Hampton Hankinson, Augusta, Ga; Aunt,
Mrs. Henry Taylor, Augusta.
James, Daphney, died
2-1-2008 at The Place at Martinez. Sisters, Valeria Coleman,
Augusta and Bobbie (Sam) Polk, South Orange, N. J.
McRea, A. H.,
registered at the Planters Hotel as a resident of Columbus, Ga.,
died soon after being discovered in an unconscious state yesterday
morning, 6-5-1913. He had complained with his head hurting and had
been suffering from chest pains. A telegram had been sent to the
McRae family. Mr. McRae had been in Augusta since May 22nd. and was
engaged in writing an industrial review of the city for The Columbus
Commercial Index. He appeared to be about 55 years of age. Dr.
Littleton stated that Mr. McRae's death was due to an attack of
acute indigestion.

Mary Royal, 81, died February 7, 2008, at her home. She
was born in Waynesboro on August 28, 1926 to the late Maggie
Cullens Royal and Frank W. Royal. Before her retirement, she
worked as a teacher's aid at Bungalow Road Elementary School in
Augusta. She was preceded in death by a son, Moses Robert
Canady, Jr.; brothers, Grover Cleveland Royal, Sr., David
Herbert Royal, Willie Frank Royal, Jr., Thomas Miller Royal,
Sr., and Fred Cloy Royal; daughter, Jean Morris (Wayne) of
Hephzibah; two sisters, Lillie Mae Hatcher and Magalene
Robertson, both of Rochelle, GA; grandchildren, Ernest C.
Mobley, III (Michelle) of Hephzibah, Tiffanie R. Mobley (Kelley)
of North Augusta, S C; Robert D. Mobley of Waynesboro, Keturah
Harden (William) of Martinez, Sarah Morris of Ypsilanti, MI,
Zach Morris (Jennifer) of Travis Air Force Base, CA, and
Michelle Stinnett (Eric) of Cartersville, GA; thirteen

Henry - died 3-28-1923 at 9:25. Husband of Ella
