| America Virginia Creed | 5-19-1868 | 10-4-1924 | w/o James A. Creed; America V. Creed, of Gloverville, Horsecreek Valley, was instantly killed about 10 o'clock this morning when she was struck by an automobile driven by William E. Schutzer, Mount Vernon, New York, a south bound tourist on the Aiken-Augusta Highway in the town of Gloverville. From witnesses it was learned at the coroner's that Mrs. Creed was passing the Highway in front of the residence of Mrs. Ida Schaffer. The driver tried to avoid Mrs. Creed by striking the fence, he skidded some distance. The accident could not be unavoidable. Coroner William B. Raborn had written out a discharge for the prisoner. Mr. Ernest Creed her son insisted on an arrest on the charge of murder, and swore out a warrent before Magistrate Raborn charging the man with murder. He was placed in jail without bond. Immediately following the accident the driver of the car picked up Mrs. Creed and hurried her to medical aid, but the impact against the windshield had dislocated her neck, and she had died almost instantly. Several people witnesses that this was an accident. (The Augusta Chronicle-October 5, 1924) |
