The suicide took place immediately after Mr. Brooks returned from an altercation at the Freedom Mobile Home dealership located adjacent to his home. At the dealership he threatened employees of WKXC-99 radio who were there to do a live remote broadcast. Brooks began yelling and screaming obscenities at them while he pulled a handgun from his right pants pocket. He then pointed the gun at them, his hand visibly shaking, and said, "Am I going to have to kill somebody?" Later Terry Gentry with WKXC-99 radio apologized to Mr. Brooks and turned to go to the vehicle to turn the music off. Both Terry Gentry and Ana Gaillance of WKXC-99 said Brooks followed Gentry tot he vehicle, continuing to curse and threaten him, pointing the gun at him even after the music had been turned off. Mr. Brooks then left shortly after, returning to his yard next door when his son was working on a vehicle in the back yard. His son tried to calm him down when Mr. Brooks repeated the statement and shot himself with the .356 handgun. Mr. Freeman owner, Jim Evans, he was to explain the incident.
