Beverly Delores Brooks, age 21, died January 11, 1977.  Interment in Wrens City Cemetery.  Native of Jefferson County, Georgia.  Daughter of Homer and Evelyn Brooks, Wrens, Georgia. Sister, Mrs. Lawana B. Henson, Wrens, Georgia; brother, Terry Brooks, Augusta, Georgia; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Charlie Arrington, Wrens, Georgia; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Berta A. Brooks, Stapleton, Georgia.

Clifford Brooks, of Warrenton, Ga., died October 29, 1938, age 34.  A respected citizen of Jefferson County Georgia, died at 11 o'clock in the morning at his home.  Interment at Walden Church.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Brooks; daughters, Thelma, Millie, and Cleo Brooks; sons, Roy, J.S. and Jimmie Brooks; brothers, George Brooks of Harrison, Ga.; William and Wes Brooks, both of Avera; sister Mrs. James Braswell, of Augusta, Georgia. 

Clifford N. Brooks, Jr., age 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford N. Brooks of Avera, Ga, died in Augusta after a short illness.  Interment in Waldens church cemetery.  Besides his parents he is survived by  brothers, Roy and J. S. Brooks; sisters, Thelma Neely and Cleo Brooks; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary S. Brooks, an his maternal grandfather, S. F. McTier of Louisville, Ga.

Dera Padgett Brooks, 77, of Avera died February 17, 2003. She was born March 14, 1925. A native of Jefferson County, was retired from Stapleton Garment Company, and was a homemaker.  Member of Pleasant grove Baptist Church. Funeral conducted at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Interment in the church cemetery.  Survivors include her husband, George Brooks; one son, Wade (Janice) brooks, Avera; one daughter, Elaine (Billy) James, Martinez; two brothers, Johnny Padgett and Lanier Padgett, both of Avera; one sister, Ogle Aiken, Gibson,  Sheppard Funeral Home in charge.

Sharon Higgenbothem Brooks, passed away, December 30, 1970.  Funeral services Platt's Funeral Home Chapel.  A native of Cullman, Ala.; she has lived in Augusta 15 years.  Survivors include her husband, George Thomas Brooks; daughter, Cynthia Brooks, Augusta; son, David Brooks, Augusta; sisters, Miss Annette Brooks and Miss Shirley Brooks, both of Augusta.  

Homer Floyd Brooks - Davisboro, Georgia, age 65, died unexpectedly early Tuesday, 8-9-1960.  Interment in Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Warren County were he also a member. Born in Glascock County, Georgia, son of the late Cisco Brooks and Mrs. Crissy Cordene Norris Brooks.  He was a farmer. Survivors: wife, Neva Beasley Brooks of Davisboro, Ga; daughter, Mrs. M. L. Wheatley of Augusta; sons, Lorick Brooks and Odis Brooks both of Davisboro and Devoe Brooks of Baton Rouge, La; sisters, Mrs. Bessie Thigpen of Wrens and Mrs. Annie Reece of Gibson; brother, J. S. Brooks of Matthews, Georgia. Mays Funeral Home of Sandersville in charge.

Homer Lee Brooks, age 83, former Wrens Police Chief of Wrens, Ga., took his life on November 9, 2002, after threatening two people at gunpoint form a large caliber handgun.  The incident occurred late Saturday morning in the back yard area of his residence on US Highway 1 outside the Wrens city limit and was witnessed by his son.  The suicide took place immediately after Mr. Brooks returned from an altercation at the Freedom Mobile Home dealership located adjacent to his home. At the dealership he threatened employees of WKXC-99 radio who were there to do a live remote broadcast.  Brooks began yelling and screaming obscenities at them while he pulled a handgun from his right pants pocket. He then pointed the gun at them, his hand visibly shaking, and said, "Am I going to have to kill somebody?"  Later Terry Gentry with WKXC-99 radio apologized to Mr. Brooks and turned to go to the vehicle to turn the music off.  Both Terry Gentry and Ana Gaillance of WKXC-99 said Brooks followed Gentry tot he vehicle, continuing to curse and threaten him, pointing the gun at him even after  the music had been turned off.  Mr. Brooks then left shortly after, returning to his yard next door when his son was working on a vehicle in the back yard.  The son told investigators his father started into the house but stopped, saying, "I'm though with them."  His son tried to calm him down when Mr. Brooks repeated the statement and shot himself with the .356 handgun.  Mr. Freeman owner, Jim Evans, he was to explain the incident.  He stated the music was set at a low volume  and had been turned on only minutes before Brooks arrived. He said Brooks came on the property in an enraged stage. Brooks was described as uncharacteristic for the neighbor he had known and visited on several occasions since opening the dealership in April.  He was always well-mannered.  Mr. Brooks was born July 24, 1919.

James Harold "Jim" Brooks, Sr., age 76, of Martinez, Georgia, died June 5, 2004.  Born in Wrens, Georgia to the late Lemuel and Annie Thigpen Brooks.  He was in the Merchant Marines and then joined the U. S. Navy during WWII.  After returning from Military service he worked for Bellsouth Telephone Company and retired with 38 years of service.  He retired after 28 years as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy Seebees Reserve.  He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church, Wymberly Association Social Club, the Star Promenaders Square Dance Club, two R. V. Clubs and both Doctors and University Hospitals Senior Freinds.  Interment will at Hillcrest Memorial Park.  Survivors include his wife, Wanda Breshears Brooks; a son, James H. and Sharon Brooks, Jr.; Social Circle; two daughters, Rebecca and Victor McCann, Clarks, Hill, SC, and Lisa and Mark Jones, Appling; two brothers, Johnny Brooks, Dearing, and Aubrey Brooks, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Joyce Hughes, Thomson. 

James Samuel Brooks, age 81 died 4-29-1962 at his residence, Matthews, Ga.  He had been sick about a year with his illness.  Interment Woodlawn Baptist Church Cemetery. Native of Glascock county, son of the late Cicero Brooks and Mrs. Crissy Norris Brooks, both natives of Glascock.  Educated in Glascock county schools.  Wife, Gertrude Guy Prescott Brooks; stepson, Eddie L. Prescott, Wrens, Ga.; stepdaughter, Lucille Prescott Evans, Lexington, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Annie Reese, Gibson, Ga., Mrs. Bessie Thigpen, Wrens, Ga.; Nephews, Johnny Brooks, Lemuel Brooks, Jack Brooks, Jim Brooks, Rosco Thigpen and Maynard Thigpen.

Jane Brooks, of Stapleton, Ga., age 38, died February 18, 1995 at McDuffie County Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services held at Stapleton Baptist Church.  Interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brooks, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County.  A homemaker and a member of the Stapleton Baptist Church, where she was a member of the ladies young adult Sunday school class.  Survivors include her husband, William Lamar Brooks; a son, Steven Lamar Brooks, Stapleton; a daughter, Kristy Sharee Brooks, Stapleton.  James & Lowe Funeral Home in charge.

Jimmie Brooks Sr., 71, of Beech Island, S.C., died Dec. 28, 2007. Born in Stapleton, to the late John Alvin and Nellie Elizabeth Norris Brooks. He was the retired owner and operator of Brooks Paint and Body for 20 years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a Baptist. Interment in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta, S.C. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Max, John Willie and Earl Brooks and two sisters, Dera Davis and Jean Laney. Survivors include three sons, Richard “Ricky” Brooks (Danelle), James “Mike” Brooks, William “Shorty” Brooks (Theresa), all of Beech Island, S.C.; a brother, John Brooks (Margaret), Thomson; three sisters, Sara Morrison (Billy ), Lincolnton, Julia Connor (Ned), Dearing, and Wanda Stokes, Warrenville, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Brooks Smith (Al), Augusta; special friend, Julia Dudley, Warrenville, S.C.; four grandchildren: Jimmy Brooks, Springtown, Texas, Susan Adams, Aiken, S.C., David Wise, Beech Island, S.C. and Jennifer Wise, Beech Island, S.C.; Hatcher Funeral Home.

Joe Oliver Brooks, of Wrens, Georgia died December 11, 1988, at the University Hospital.  Funeral Conducted at M. W. Callaway and Sons Funeral Home.  Interment in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.  A native of Jefferson County.  He was retired from Lewis Steel Works with twenty years service.  He was also a farmer and a logger.  Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Newsome Brooks; a son, Joe Brooks, Wrens, his mother, Berta Hadden Brooks, Stapleton; three sisters, Katie Lou Denton and Marie Dixon, both of Stapleton, and Marha Malaczewski, Marathon, Fla.; four brothers, George Brooks, Avera, Homer Brooks, Wrens, Edgar Brooks, Gibson, and Howard Brooks, Stapleton. 

John Brooks, Washington, Ga., 9-1-1902, passed away at an early hour this morning.  He was one of the pioneer citizens of this section of Ga. , having been born 83 years ago.  He was a native of Tallsferro County.

John Alvin Brooks, Stapleton, Ga., age 42, died at Louisville Hospital after a short illness.  Funeral conducted at the Magnolia Baptist Church in Glascock County.  Interment in the church cemetery.  Mr. Brooks was the son of Mrs. Leona Hayes Brooks of Stapleton and the late John Thomas Brooks,  He moved to Stapleton from Gibson about one year ago.  He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie Elizabeth Norris Brooks; mother Mrs. Leona Hayes Brooks, Stapleton; six sons, Thomas Alvin Brooks, serving with the U. S. Army in Germany; Max Brooks, Jimmy Brooks, John Willie Brooks, Junior Brooks, and Earl Brooks, all of Stapleton; five daughters; Mrs. Roy Montgomery of Thomson, Miss Sara Lee Brooks, Miss Julia Brooks, Miss Jean Brooks and Miss Wanda Brooks, all of Stapleton; one sister, Mrs. H. John Henry Brooks, Jr., Louisville, Ga.,  died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.  A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, received his education in the Jefferson County School System. He was a former employee of Forstmann and Company, and a school bus driver for the Jefferson County Board of Education.  He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist where he is buried.  He was the husband of Ida Mary Brooks. Sisters, Mattie Flournoy, Juanita Reeves, Eva Jean Walden, Elsie Whitfield, Louisville and Shirley Dogan, Wrens; brothers, Joe Louis Brooks, Eddie Lee Brooks, James Brooks and Freddie Brooks, Louisville; mother in law, Daisy Boatwright, Wrens.

John Wesley Brooks, age 66, Wrens, Georgia, died in a Louisville Hospital.  Funeral services at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.  Interment in the Church Cemetery.  The body will be at the residence.  Native of Glascock County.  He had spent most of his life in Jefferson County.  A retired farmer.  A member of the Walden's Methodist Church.  He was the son of the late Tom and Donna Shirley Brooks.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Berta Hadden Brooks of Wrens; six sons, Howard Brooks and Oliver Brooks, both of Wrens, Edward Brooks, Homer Brooks and Edgar Brooks, all of Matthews and George Brooks of Avera; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Denton of Wrens, Mrs. Gray Dixon of Augusta and Mrs. Raymond Malaczewski of Perth Amboy, N. J; one brother George Brooks of Harrison. 

Leona Brooks died 1-17-1956; wife of John Thomas Brooks.  She was living with her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Huff Williams where she died. Native of Warren.  Daughter of the late Jason and Mary Jeter Hayes.  Interment at Briar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  Brother, F. E. Hayes, Thomson; sister, Nealie Brooks, Warrenton; daughter in laws, Mrs. Jack Brooks, Thomson and John Alvin Brooks, Warrenton.

Lorick V. Brooks Sr.-age 86, of Davisboro, entered into rest on Monday, July 7, 2008. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, at 11 a.m. in the Davisboro City Cemetery. Born in Jefferson County, the son of the late Homer Floyd Brooks and the late Neva Beasley Brooks. He spent his life as a farmer and a timber man and was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Davisboro Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and sang in the church choir as well as served on numerous committees within the church. For the last six and a half years Mr. Brooks lived in North Augusta SC., but considered Davisboro and Washington County home. He was a WWII Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Virginia Davis Brooks of North Augusta, SC.; his daughter Brenda B. Sims (David) of Valdosta; sons Angeli Brooks (Sally) of Bartow, and Lorick V. Brooks Jr. (Beth) of N. Augusta, SC.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Sims of McDonough, Jana Sims Felkel (Matthew) of Valdosta, Dr. Byron Brooks (Dr. Kreslyn) of Bartow, Sally V.S. Brooks of Charleston, SC., Chris Maciaszek (Stephanie) of Augusta, Georgia.   May and Smith Funeral Home in charge.

Martha Brooks (Malaczewski), of Boca Raton, Florida, died February 2, 2004.  Funeral services at James Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery were she was also a member at the church.  A native of Jefferson County.  Survivors include her husband, Raymond Malaczewski; two sons Raymond "Butch" Malaczewski, Perth Amboy, NJ, and Edward "Bubbie" Malaczewski, Boca Raton, Fla.; one sister, Marie Dixon, Stapleton; two brothers, George Brooks, Avera, and Edgar Brooks, Gibson. 

Mary Rebecca Brooks, wife of Davis A. Brooks, died 11-16-1917 at the residence of 1451 Cooper St., age 77 years old.  Had been ill for a while.  Funeral services conducted at residence.  Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.  Survivors-one son, James Brooks, two daughters, Mrs. C. M. Hardy and Mrs. Jacob Goodwin.

Neva Beasley Brooks, wife of Homer Floyd Brooks, died 6-26-1985 in Richmond County, Georgia hospital. Interment in Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. She was a resident of Davisboro most of her life before moving to Augusta, Georgia eight yrs. ago.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Survivors: sons, Lorick Brooks, Davisboro and Devoe Brooks, Louisiana; daughter, Mrs. M. L. (Debanie) Wheatley, Augusta, Georgia.  Platt's Funeral Home in charge.
