Avant Chalker, 89, Beall Springs Rd, died March 15, 1993, at McDuffie County Hospital. Burial at First Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Chalker, a native of Glascock County. Retired from the Georgia State Highway Department. A member and a deacon of First Baptist Church of Gibson. Survivors include a son, Thomas Chalker, Mitchell, Ga.; daughters, Zelma Padgett, Pendleton, S.C., Joann Chalker, Gibson, and Mary C. Brooks, Stapleton, Ga.; a brother, Emory Chalker, Warrenton, Ga.; sisters, Marie Davis, Warrenton, and Bernice Brooks, Gibson.
Grady Chalker, Gibson, Ga., the 18 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. Joe Chalker died at the home of his parents in this county, Nov 28th, 1921, from a malignant attack of pneumonia. The deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Joe Chalker, seven sisters and three brothers. Funeral services: Johnson's church, in Warren County. Interment: Johnson's church cemetery. John G. Chalker, age 66, died 2-10-1936 at his residence. Interment in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, Ga. S. A. Blanchard Funeral Home in charge of Thomson, Ga. A merchant in Avera for 20 years. Married three times: First wife, Fannie Pullian, Second wife, Carrie Raley and third wife, Mrs. Eugene Dixon Chalker. Sons: W. W. Chalker, Gibson, D. E. Chalker, Deerfield, Fla; daughters, Mrs. O. D. Hill, Thomson, Miss Marisally Chalker both of Avera; sisters, Mrs. Olive Harden, Mrs. S. B. Kithens, both of Gibson and Mrs. Lilly Coxville, Avera; brothers, M. L. Chalker, Avera, C. A. Chalker, Augusta, G. T. Chalker and H. Chalker both of Gibson.
Inez Chalker, 6 years of age, was shot and instantly killed 11-9-1926 by a Mr. Perdue, of Stapleton. According to reports, the child was making a fire in the stove to cook supper and two drunken men on the outside of the house became engaged in a difficulty, or fight, and in some way a pistol was discharged taking effect in the little girls mouth. It was taken from the back of her head by Dr. Tobe Snide of Gibson. On investigation the bullet was found to have come from Perdue's pistol. Perdue and Warlic are in jail here. Interment in Bethel church cemetery.
L. Harman Chalker, age 57 died 2-19-1939; member of Bethel Methodist Church; h/o Susie Usry Chalker; brothers, A. J. Chalker, Gibson, Henry Chalker, Avera; sisters, Mrs. W. H. McGraw, Louisville, Mrs. M. C. Reese and Mrs. Rob Kitchens, both of Gibson, Ga. Note: L. Harman Chalker was born April 1, 1882.
Marion L. Chalker, Jr.- Lieutenant and Colonel; native of Avera, Georgia; lived in Tuscalousa AL; died 11-8-2010; wife Betty Chalker; daughter, Pamela Harmon; sisters, Alma and Louise Faglier, Margarite Raley, Annette Cook; brother, Dan Chalker. Interment Alabama National Cemetery. Son of Marion L. Chalker, Sr. and Emma Chalker.
Mary A. Newsome Chalker, 81, widow of F. M. Chalker, died at her residence after an extended illness on 5-4-1938. Interment in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in which she was also a member since early childhood. Survivors include: sons, A. J. Chalker, Harmon Chalker, and Henry Chalker all of Gibson; daughters, Mrs. W. H. McGraw of Bartow, Ga., Mrs. Bob Kitchens and Mrs. M. C. Reese, both of Gibson; brother, C C. Newsome of Gibson. Note: Mary A. Newsome Chalker was born on September 10, 1857.
Ronnie Chalker, 67, died January 13, 2010, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson, Georgia. A native of Glascock County. Son of Herbert and Lucille Newsome Chalker. Survivors include a sister, Mary Millwood, Thomson, Georgia. Sheppard Funeral Home.
Roy Lee Chalker, Sr., died December 6, 1975. Interment at Bethel United Methodist Church, Gibson. A lifelong resident of Glascock County. Member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors - his widow, Mrs. Louise Chalker, Gibson; two daughters, Mrs. J. Wilkinson and Juanita Chalker, both of Gibson; two sons, Leonard Chalker and Charles Chalker, both of Gibson. Note: Roy Lee Chalker, Sr. was born on January 11, 1916.
Willie Cleo Chalker, born 1913, died 9-14-1974 in a Louisville hospital. He resided at 3902 Plantation Court. Native of Glascock. Retired from Augusta Box Company. h/o Mrs. Mae Belle Kitchens Chalker; son, Willie Cleo Chalker, Jr. Hephzibah, Ga. He is the son of Eliza Chalker, Gibson, Ga.
Robert Chalker, Gibson, Ga., who was carried to Rawling's Sanitarium at Sandersville September 6th, 1925 and operated on for appendicitis died at the sanitarium last, his remains were brought back to his home about one mile from Gibson. Funeral services: Methodist Church. Interment: Church Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his widow.
