Denton

Floyd Allen "Man" Denton, 65, of County Line Road, Gibson, Ga., died March 28, 2008 at University Hospital, Augusta. Funeral services will be at Sheppard Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. A native of Glascock Co., a farmer, he loved gardening. He was a fisherman and coon hunter. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mrs. Mary Oxford Denton; one son, Bobby (Linda) Denton of Tennille; two stepdaughters, Ginny Langham of Camak and Shirley (David) Smith of Dearing; one brother, Billy (Delia) Denton of Tennille. 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

James L. Denton died suddenly at his home in Stapleton, Ga., early Tuesday morning, 11-11-1930.  He had been eating breakfast appearing as well as usual and was sitting by the fire when he was suddenly stricken with heart trouble and died within a few minutes. He was a successful business man and a progressive farmer. He was 71 years old. The funeral was held at Stapleton Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Martha A. Avera Denton and three daughters, Mrs. Mack Boyd, Mrs. K. P. Walden and Mrs. Sam. McNair.

James Thomas Denton, 69, Gibson, Ga., a truck driver, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, in the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, with Rev. Charles Reese officiating. A native of Glascock County. Survivors include two daughters, Tiffanie Denton Porter, Lincolnton and Ashley Nicole Denton, Thomson; and three grandchildren, Dylan Denton, Dominique Porter, and Nathan Porter. Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home.

John D. Denton, died February 20, 1926 in Miami Florida at the age of 54.  He was born in Stapleton, Ga.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Wilson Denton; two sons, Edgar Denton and David Denton; two daughters, Mrs. W. F. Mitchell and Mrs. C. B. Dye; three brothers, J. Frank Denton, Thomas Denton and Edward Denton; two sisters, Mrs. George A. Rooks and Mrs. S. M. McGahee.

Ray Chester Denton, Sr., age 39, died at Richmond County Hospital.  Funeral services at Bethel United Methodist Church.  Interment in the church yard cemetery.  A native of Washington County, Georgia.  A retired Mechanic. Survivors include his mother, Katie Lou Denton, Stapleton, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Denton, Gibson; a son, Ray C. Denton, Jr., Gibson; a sister, Jeanette Adams, Stapleton; and a brother, Emory Denton, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Sheppard Funeral Home in charge.

Roy Chester Denton, died June 17, 1959, when he was killed from the tractor he was riding overturned.  Funeral conducted at Bethel Methodist Church.  Interment in the church cemetery. He was a member at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  He is the son of Robert Lee Denton, Mitchell, Ga.  Husband of Katie Lou Brooks Denton, Augusta, Ga. Sons, Ray Chester Denton and Charlie Denton, Mitchell; sisters, Mrs. Odell Whitehead and Mrs. Allen Snider, both of Mitchell,  Mrs. Ralph Hobbs & Mrs. George Stewart, both of Thomson.  Note: Roy C. Denton born December 11, 1942.  Katie Lou Brooks Denton born May 2, 1913 and died December 7, 1993.  She is also buried in Bethel UMC Cemetery.

Sarah E. Braswell Denton, age 69, died in Bibb County hospital, October 21, 1982.  Graveside services in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery. Native of Jefferson County, but lived in Glascock and Warren Counties most of her life. A homemaker and a member of Bethel Methodist Church.  Survivors: daughter, Carolyn D. Snider, Macon; two sons, Jerome Denton, Mitchell, Ga. and Thomas Denton, Thomson, Ga.; two brothers, Jake Braswell, Thomson, Ga. and Johnny Braswell.  Curtis Funeral Home. Note: She is the wife of Robert Lee Denton.
