Anna Bell Mays Parish, Stapleton, Ga, age 40 died this morning (12-22-1944) at three o'clock at the University hospital in Augusta after an illness of three weeks. A leader in civic and religious activities in the community, she was an active member of the Stapleton Baptist church. She was district chairman of the war fund drive of Jefferson County, officer of the Women's Missionary Society and past president of the Parent-Teachers' Association. She and her husband, Jesse Lee Parish, operated the Parish Cafe in Stapleton, which is the only restaurant in that vicinity. Funeral services held at Stapleton Baptist church. Interment in the churchyard of the Stapleton cemetery. Survivors include her husband, a son, Petty Officer (fc) Jesse Lee Parish, Jr., USN, Little Creek, Va.; a foster daughter, Sergeant Joyce Hayes, WAC, in Italy; two sisters, Mrs. P. P. Jowers, Mrs. T. B. Atkins, both of Augusta; two brothers, Woodie Mays, Miami and Forest E. Mays, Augusta. (TAC)
Miss. Betty Sue Parish, 80, daughter of the late W. G. Parish and Alma Newsome Parish and the sister of the late Marie Odum, entered into rest September 3, 2007 at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah Ga. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. at Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Daniel from Stapleton Baptist Church officiating. Miss Parish was a member of the Stapleton Baptist Church, she retired over fifty years in banking at Bank of Stapleton. Survivors include, a brother, Leonard (Betty) Parish from Garden City, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. James Funeral Home- Wrens, GA.
John Wesley Parish, 85, died 5-26-1935 at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Duncan, 1564 Fenwick street, yesterday afternoon at 1:55 o'clock after an illness of one month. Funeral services held at Gracewood Methodist church, of which he was a member. The remains will be at Platt's Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral. He was a native of Richmond county and for a number of years was in charge of the farm at the Richmond County home. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mattie Hendricks of Gracewood; Mrs. Gertrude Duncan of Augusta; Mrs. Mae Utley of Gracewood and Mrs. Agnes Fishburn of Atlanta; three sons, W. H. Parish and J. L. Parish of Gracewood and L. C. Parish of Augusta. Grandsons, Louie Utley, Foster Utley, Henry Parish, Edward Parish, Edward Hendricks and Truman Hendrick.
Lillie Stewart Parish, born October 2, 1889 and died October 7, 1931. She was the second wife of C. C. Parish. She was a faithful wife, mother and step-mother. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Methodist Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher and officer in the Missionary Society of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband; one son, James Parish; daughter, Evelyn; her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Stewart; several sisters and a brother and several step-children. Interment in the Woodland Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Morgan of Macon and Mrs. Morgan's sister, Miss Betty Quinn of New York City attended the funeral and while here were guest of Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Stewart. William H. Parish, Stapleton, Ga, a pioneer citizen of Stapleton, died (5-29-1936) after a brief illness. A native of Richmond county, was born in 1860, and moved to Stapleton in 1880. He joined the church as a child and when the Stapleton Baptist church was built in 1889, he became a charter member and was the last living male member. A merchant for the past 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rena Peebles Parish; sons,, daughters, Mrs. O. M. McGahee, Stapleton, Mrs. Sam Williams, Stapleton; Mrs. Quincey Peebles, Gibson; Watson Parish, Atlanta, and J. L. Parish, Stapleton.
