James Lawrence Quinby III, 82, died at his residence in Graniteville, SC. Funeral conducted in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley. J. N. Posey and Sons in charge. A lifelong resident of Graniteville, had retired as an engineer supervivor from Du Pont at the Savannah Plant. Member of Little Horse Creek Baptist Church. Survivors - Wife, Georgia A. Quinby, three daughters, Georgia A. Watts, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ellen Q. Huff, Graniteville, and Cheryl Q. Brown of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Sister, Catherine Q. Taffee, Winnsboro and a brother William F. Quinby, Lexington. (TAC)
Kittie Platt Quinby, Graniteville, SC., died Feb. 12, 1944, wounded several months ago by her husband who in turn was shot to death by a state officer, died Friday while visiting in Norfolk, Ca. Mrs. Quinby had been sick for some time with influenza. She had recovered from her wounds. James L. Quinby had shot his wife and later wounded Sheriff J. P. Howard and Constable Euly Thompson when they attempted to arrest him. He barricaded himself in the upstairs of his home and defied officers for several hours until finally shot by a state officer. Funeral services will beheld at the gravesite in Graniteville cemetery. Survivors are two sons, James L, Quinby, Norfolk, Va., and William Quinby of Fairfield, California; sister, Mrs. Quinby Ligono of Winnsboro; and one daughter, Mrs. Catherine Taff of Florida. (TAC)
