Mr. and Mrs. Aaron J. Rooks of Stapleton, Ga announce the marriage of their daughter, Susie Marilyn to John Waldon Purvis, Jr. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Waldon Purvis, Sr. The marriage will take place on 7-1-1950 at the Mt. Moriah Tabernacle with the Rev. J. Paul Barrett Officiating. Aaron J. Rooks (1904-1969) and Mattie Lou Williams (1903-1987) Susie's parents of Stapleton, Ga.

Aaron Jerimiah (Dock) Rooks, 64, of Stapleton, who died Wednesday (1-8-1969) at his residence, will be at Waldens Methodist Church were he was also a member. Interment will be in the church yard cemetery. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenters Union 288, Augusta. A native of Jefferson county, he was the son of George A. and Emma Jane Denton Rooks. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mattie Lou Williams Rooks, sons, Kenneth Ray Rooks, Warrenton, Ga., and Travis Fay Rooks, Stapleton; daughters, Weldon Purvis, Wrens, Ga., and Mrs. Jimmy Williams, Stapleton; brothers, George M. Rooks and J. L. Rooks, both of Stapleton, and Cheslie Rooks, Wrens; sisters, Mrs. Lee McTier, Augusta, and Mrs. Agnes Sheppard, New York City; seven grandchildren.
George M. Rooks, 81, of Stapleton, died Saturday, funeral services will be held at Walden's United Methodist Church were he is also a member. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A native of Jefferson County, he was a retired farmer. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Todd Neal, Stapleton, and Miss Marguarite Rooks, Macon, Ga.; son, Jack Rooks, Wrens; sisters, Mrs. Lee McTier, Macon, Mrs. Leslie McTier and Mrs. Agnes Myers, both of Augusta; and brothers, Cheslie Rooks, Wrens, and J. L. Rooks, Stapleton.
James Lamar Rooks, native of Jefferson County and a retired farmer passed away on 6-14-1979. Interment in Walden UMC. Wife, Pauline Faglier Rooks, Augusta, Ga.; sons, James "Buddy" Rooks, John O. Rooks, Augusta; daughters, Mrs. Joyce Dixon, Augusta, Mrs. Virginia Stanfield, Woodbine, Ga. Mrs. Wiladeon Kuykendall, Mrs. Jimmie Clark, Mrs. Sonya Usry, Stapleton, Mrs. Shelby Harden, Wrens; sisters, Mrs. Leslie McTier and Mrs. Agnes Sheppard, Augusta.
Kenneth Rooks, 74, of Old Milledgeville Road, Thomson, Ga., passed away April 3, 2003 at Thomson Manor. Husband of Doris Rooks for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Doris B. Rooks, Thomson; sons, Ray Rooks (Lynne), Augusa, Danny Rooks (Stephanie), Thomson; brother, Travis Rooks, Stapleton; sisters, Sue Purvis and Nelda Williams, Wrens. A native of Jefferson County, but lived in Thomosn for over 30 years. A retired manager of the Napa Auto Parts Store in Warrenton. Was a member and a deacon Emeritus of Sweetwater Baptist Church. Funeral services held at Sweetwater Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Beggs Funeral Home.
Mattie Lou Williams Rooks, 84, Old Avera Stapleton Road, died Sunday (11-29-1987) at University hospital, Augusta. The funeral will be held at Waldens United Methodist Church, near Avera. Interment in the church cemetery. A native of Jefferson county. A homemaker and a member of the Waldens United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women and Adult Sunday School Class. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Jimmy Williams, Stapleton and Mrs. Weldon Purvis, Wrens; sons, Travis Rooks Stapleton and Kenneth Rooks, Thomson; brothers, Willie T. Williams, Savannah, Ga and Lake Williams, Stapleton. M. W. Callaway and Sons Funeral home in charge. Note: Mattie Lou Williams (1903-1987) daughter of Timothy Williams and Sudie Sheppard.
Thomas Watson Rooks, 55 died at the home of his son, Carlos Rooks, here this morning (8-28-1947) after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at Walden's Methodist church also were the burial will take place. He was a member of the Dewheart Baptist church and also a native of Jefferson county. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dessie Lou Hadden Rooks of Avera, Ga., sons, Elmo Rooks of Louisville, Ga, Carlos Rooks of Wrens, Ga., and Edward Rooks of Avers, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Tom Moats of Wrens, Mrs Walter Shephard of Avera, Mrs. Frank McTier and Mrs Alvin McTire of Stapleton, Ga.; brothers, William Rooks of Augusta, Ga., George Rooks, Jim Rooks, Chesley Rooks and Aaron Rooks, all of Stapleton, Ga.
Travis Fay Rooks, of Stapleton, Ga, 72, husband of 50 years to June Prescott Rooks, and the son of the late Aaron Jerimiah Rooks and the late Mattie Lou Williams Rooks, died January 12, 2008. Funeral services January 14, 2008 at James Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Stapleton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Rooks was a retired supervisor at Stapleton Garment Co., a member of the Stapleton United Methodist Church and served in the National Guard. Survivors include his wife, June; son, Travis E. Rooks; a daughter, Faye R. Jones and her husband, Bill; two sisters, Sue Purvis, her husband, Weldon and Nelda Williams, her husband, Jimmy, a granddaughter, Kristy Jones and a sister-in-law, Doris Rooks. Mr. Rooks is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Rooks. Note: Mr. Rooks died from Cancer.
