2-23-1888 - Mr. W. H. Turner of the popular firm of Turner and Holstein, Edgefield, SC started yesterday afternoon for New York. 9-4-1888 - Mrs. W. H. Turner goes to work in the Jacksonville Telegraph office. 9-10-1920 - Edgefield, SC, Mr. Wiley H. Turner, has just opened a handsome dry goods store here. Mr. Turner is well known here, this having been his home all of his life. 3-15-1922- Albert Turner age 16 of Vaucluse, SC, on the affidavit of his father, Mr. John Henry Turner, was committed to the reformatory at Florence, SC by probate Judge Webb. The father stated that the boy was incorrigible and of weak mentality. 11-26-1923 - Mr. and Mrs. John F. Williams motored to McBean, Georgia, on a Sunday stroll and returned with Mr. F. Pickens Turner, who had been visiting his daughter, Mrs. J. P. Timmerman. 4-13-1924 - Mr. F. Pickens Turner has returned from a visit to relatives in Florida and McBean, Ga and is with his daughter, Mrs. John F. Williams. Mrs. Alice McHale Turner, wife of M. Noel Turner of 614 Lake Ave, North Augusta, SC died 11-24-1924. The body will be conveyed from Wilson Funeral Apartments over the Georgia Railroad to Gallipolis, Ohio. Funeral services at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment in the cemetery of Gallipolis. Survivors: brothers, Anthony McHale and Michael of Gallipolis; sisters, Mrs. H. B. Walker, Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Robert Michael and Mrs. Nora McHale of Gallipolis. M. Noel Turner husband of the deceased is member of the local firm of Heath, Bolster and Turner. She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on 11-25-1855. 2-4-1929 - Pope Norris Turner, age 60, of Langley, SC, died at the home of his son, William H. Turner, Langley, Sc yesterday afternoon. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Elvira Turner, daughters, Mrs. Della Baughman and Mrs. Florence Jordan both of Vaucluse; sons, William H. Turner, Langley, Thomas Turner, Sampy Turner and Noah Turner all of Vaucluse, Sc; sister, Elias Turner, Vaucluse; brothers, John Turner, Vaucluse, Jake and T. D. Turner, both of Augusta, Ga. Funeral services at Vaucluse Baptist Church. Interment in Vaucluse Cemetery. 2-18-1929 - David Albert Turner, age 22, died Monday in Columbia, was buried at Vaucluse Cemetery after funeral services at the Vaucluse Baptist Church conducted by Rev. T. E. Seago of North Augusta. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Turner; brothers, George, Hudson, Ira and John H. Turner, Jr; sisters, Mrs. Lila Coursey and Miss Mila Turner all of Vaucluse, SC. 9-7-1929- Mrs. Mancie Turner, age 84, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. N. Turner, Vaucluse, SC. Funeral services Vaucluse Baptist Church. Interment in Vaucluse Cemetery. Survivors: son, W. L. Williams. Ninety-Six,SC., James Williams, Graniteville, SC., A. S. Turner, Vaucluse, SC; one daughter, Mrs. Elvira Turner, Vaucluse, SC. 1-22-1933- W. H. Turner divorced Ellie M. Turner. Catherine Turner Chapman, born 8-13-1834 and died 7-7-1915; w/o Thora Quiller Chapman; children: Wm. Bunyan Chapman 1858 - 1937; John C. Chapman 1860 - 1936; Thomas C. Chapman 1864 - 1949; Jason Chapman born 8-9-1874 and died 1-19-?; burial at First Baptist Church Montmorenci Cemetery, Aiken County, South Carolina. 1-29-1935 - Aiken, SC - Court of General Sessions Jury Case Tried - Albert Turner charges with assault and battery of high and aggravated nature plead guilty - sentenced 3 months. Lila Turner Coursey 4-25-1908 - 4-7-1936; w/o Herbert Coursey; sister, Millie Turner; brothers, George Turner, John Henry Turner, Ira Turner, Hudson Turner; Interment Vaucluse Cemetery, Aiken County, South Carolina. 3-2-1938- Mrs. Elvira Turner, of Vaucluse, Sc. died this morning at an Aiken infirmary after an illness of more than a month. Funeral services Vaucluse Baptist Church. Interment in Vaucluse Cemetery. Survivors: daughters, Mrs. George Moore of Augusta, Miss Della Turner of Vaucluse; sons, W. H. Turner, Augusta, T. P. Turner, S. M. Turner and N. A. Turner all of Vaucluse and Alvin Buck Turner of Vaucluse; brother, Samp Turner of Vaucluse; half brother, Jim Williams of Graniteville, SC. 10-19-1939 - Mr. and Mrs. Pickens Turner, of Augusta, Ga is visiting Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Cloer of Blythe, Georgia. 12-8-1940 - Annie Mae Arender Pate, wife of Stanton Pate, Graniteville, SC, died 12-7-1940, after an illness of two years. Interment in Graniteville Cemetery. Survived by her husband and children: Helen Pate, William Pate, Eugene Pate, Gerald Pate, Allen Pate, Patricia Pate; her mother, Mrs. Sallie Mae Arender of Vaucluse, SC; brothers, John H. Cates both of Aiken; son, Verdie Alvin Turner of Aiken and brother, James A. Turner of Warrenville, SC. Mrs. Huldie Turner Bulloch, age 74, of Merry Street, w/o R. Oscar Bulloch, Stiefletown, South Carolina. Native of Edgefield, South Carolina;d/o John Henry Turner and Sallie Sharpton Turner; lived in Stiefletown for 3 years; one niece, Mrs. Charles McAlister of Augusta, Georgia with who she made her home; nephew, James Cannon, Jr., of Fort Meyers, Florida. (Born 8-3-1888/1-3-1963, Graniteville Cemetery, Aiken, County, South Carolina) (Her father John Henry Turner died 6-5-1946, Graniteville Cemetery, Aiken County, South Carolina) Turner family received numerous land grants from the British crown and their wealth was from England. The Turners were Tories and did not volunteer for service in the Revolutionary War. |

1840 - US Federal Census Abbeville District, SC - Albert Turner, 1 male under 5, 2 males between 5-10, 1 male between 20-30, 1 male between 30-40, 1 female between 20-30. Other Turners living in the Abbeville District area are: Alexander, John, Robert, Samuel and Tandy Turner. 1860 - Edgefield District - A. G. Turner is listed as a large slave owner. Turner, Ned, homestead was near mouth of Tosty Creek, a small stream emptying into the Saluda and called Tosty, or Tosta, by the natives. This settlement began as early as 1760, or about that time.
