Old Langley Cemetery - INSCRIPTIONS
LANGLEY, SC
By: Mrs. J. G. Chafee, Esther Marion, Chapter D.A.R
From Microfilm and actual headstones; typed-researched from Augusta Chronicle
and other documents, I visited the cemetery many times trying to get this very
accurate - by Darlene Brooks
Directions: Located in the town of Langley, South Carolina, Aiken County. Hwy 421 take Piney Heights Road then travel 4/10 mile on the right. You will see a lot of overgrowth and large old trees mostly pine trees.
The Aiken-Barnwell Genealogical Society has the Old Langley Cemetery Inscriptions posted in their Aiken County Cemeteries Volume. 111 book. Cyril Johnson and Wallis Byars inventoried the cemetery on 1-26-1991.
Thanks Larry Scott for working with me in the beginning on the Old Langley Cemetery.

McKinney, E. F. 1-22-1914 Age 65 yrs.
McKinney, Enoch 1-15-1865-10-24-1937
Notation for "McKinney, E. F. 1-22-1914 Age 65 yrs." Is Elizabeth Frances
Eubanks McKinney born 1 June 1850 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Her father
was Isaac Eubanks and her mother was Augusta Ann Jeter. You can see it is
wrong by the dates provided. It says she was born 12-1868. She died in 1914 so
that would make her 46 years old. Clearly that is not right. Besides, she was
married and having her own children before 1868.
Elizabeth Eubanks married Cornelius Bush in 1866 and had at least 7 children by
him. Some of them are buried in New Langley. Alonzo Bush is buried in Old
Langley beside his mother in an unmarked grave.
Both dates are wrong on Enoch McKinney's stone. His death certificate is dated
24 Oct 1936. His birthday was 28 Feb 1860. I guess the family put the stone up
a year after his death and did not remember his birthday correctly.
He was also born in Spartanburg.
John Miller McKinney and Anna Lee Powell had five children, one of whom is still
alive and will celebrate her 90th birthday next year.
