John Glover
![]()
John Glover was a Scotsman and is the 4th great-grandfather of Millie Stewart and
Margie
Glover-Daniels. Millie's great-grandmother Elizabeth Ann Glover and my
Great-grandmother Susan K. Glover were sisters. Elizabeth Ann
married Zephaniah Fowler grandson of John Martin Blackstone the
first Senator of Crawford County.
John Glover lived in Stokes County, North Carolina and served in the American Revolution as a Private. Just exactly when he left Warren County and migrated to the Old Abbeville District is not known. He is shown on the 1790 Census report for Warren County, N. C. along with the Paschal( l ) family.
Sources have it that he married Sarah Paschal in The Old Abbeville District,
South Carolina, and later, he is found living in Putnam County, Georgia. John is
shown on the 1813 Putnam Tax Roll in Capt. William E. Adams Dists
having property in Putnam and Jones County, Ga. Also show, Evans, William (father of
Drucilla Evans, she married John P. Glover), Evans, William D., Evans, Wilmuth (mother of
Drucilla Evans), Evans, Anslum (Drucilla Evans brother), Cowen, John (son-in-law of
John Glover) , Glover John , Vining, Phereby, Dennis,
Charles A. ,O'Neal, Zach , Kennedy, Caleb. These families would remain close to each other
and travel through Georgia and some on into Alabama.
Records show that they had nine children. John Glover was a man of
wealth, having acquired much money, land and slaves.
He won land in the Cherokee lottery and later moved to Crawford County.
His sons also received land in the Cherokee lottery. John is thought to have moved
to Crawford Co. Ga. in 1822. He deeded half of the land for Mt. Paran Church and cemetery.
On the right side of the Church is a Revolutionary War marker for John Glover., it is not
known exactly where John is buried or other family members. It is believed that his
wife Sarah is also buried here and possibly Milton P. Glover. Milton
having been murdered after the death of his mother in 1839.
The Glover, Cowan, Wood, Williamson families moved from Putnam County, Ga. together.
Cowan, Wood, Williamson were the son in laws of John Glover. Land records indicate that
John Glover and John Cowan owned land together. Below
is an excerpt from John Glover Cowan's story on the Cowan Family.
"Another important family is found on land immediately adjacent to the
Cowans.
This is the family of John Glover. The the father of Susannah
Glover. Since both John Cowan and John Glover were found a few years later together in
Crawford County, and these two were selling out in Putnam about the same time, there is no
doubt that these two men are the John Glover, originally from North Carolina, and his son
in law John Cowan, who was a grandson of James Cowan . Records indicate that John Cowan
and John Glover actually owned a piece of land jointly. No record is found of them buying
it, but January 1, 1821, they jointly sell to Benjamin Williamson (son-in-law of John
Glover and brother-in-law of Cowan) 88 acres of land lot 233. On the same date, John Cowan
singularly sells to Benjamin Williamson 111 acres of
land lot 252. This land is described as bordering on Glover and Cowan on the west and
Cowan on the south. This seems to suggest that John Cowan retained part of land lot 252
and some of the land jointly held with John Glover."
"Another interesting name shows up with Cowan and Glover, that of John
Woods(son-in-law of John Glover), who owned land all around the Cowans and Glovers. He is
shown Witnessing some land transactions involving Cowan and Glover. The Woods family moved
from
Virginia with the Cowans into Old 96 District, South Carolina. This John Woods, in
1821, along with the John Cowan and John Glover families, moved to Crawford County."
Old John Glover (as he was called) died in 1832 and left a will naming only the children
who came to Crawford County, apparently having settled with the others at an earlier date.
Court records confirms the children not listed in the will.
At "Ole John's" death, a series of dissention broke out among the heirs, over
slaves that had been given to John Pascal Glover by his father. It finally ended in the
death of a son, Milton P. Glover. William E. Glover and Martin Johnson were charged with
the murder. The court records are vague, and William E. Glover lived to be a very old man,
so we are led to assume that he was proven innocent.

Sarah Paschal and John Glover marriage information.
We have found information in the Abbeville/Ninety-Six districts marriages that a Sarah
Paschall married and unknown Glover in 1780.
According to our records we find that Samuel and Phereba were in the Abbeville District
around that time. Also records for Sarah's siblings, William, Reliance(unknown Paschall
mar: John Hammock), Mary, Mildred, Nancy, and Rachel, show that they were all married
there. Samuel is my wife's GGGGG greatgrandfather, and William her GGGG greatgrandfather.
Samuel's will is recorded in Abbevlle District, as well as, I believe, Milton's, Samuel's
son.
We are always receiving information regarding the Paschall Families almost on a
daily basis. We would be happy to share any info we have with you.
