My greatgrandfather, Jesse Johnson Brawner, died in Calhoun 16 Feb 1897. I am trying to find his wife Mary Ann Quarles Brawner. On her oldest son's death certificate she is listed as Mary House. My relatives say she died while visiting her son Jesse in florida 1915-1920. I cannot find a death certificate in Florida or Georgia. Can anyone help?????
Update (2/06/03): Mary Ann Quarles Brawner was living in Calhoun in 1900 but was not found in the 1910 census records. She may have remarried but do not know for sure.

I am searching for any and all information on John Rolin Brooks and spouse Fayenettie Devaney. He was born November 5, 1872 and died August 4, 1944. She was born November 9, 1880 and died February 9, 1921. They lived in Gordon County when my mother, Lula Belle Brooks was born in 1908. They both died in Pickens County, GA.
Update (8/19/02): Fayenettie and John Rolin Brooks were still living in Ranger, GA. on June 10, 1910. I found a card that Fayenettie had sent to her sister in Ducktown, TN. on that date. Postmark was Ranger, GA. Her sister's name is Magie, who is married to Drury Weeks or D. D. Weeks.
Update (9/01/02): John and Fayenettie Brooks are listed in the 1920 Dug Road District Census-Pickens County, GA. and shows she and her parents were born in Alabama. They lived in Gordon County as late as June 22, 1910. Fayenettie's sister Magie(Maggie) Devaney(Devane) married Drury D. Weeks on July 8, 1899 in Fannin County, GA. and were living in Ducktown, TN. on June 22, 1910. Very little information is known about the Devaney family other than they were of Irish Descent. I would dearly love to know the parents names of Fayenettie and Magie.

I am trying to trace James Callahan married to Malinda Howell, three children: William B. Callahan, Mary L. Callahan and James Thomas Callahan. William B. was born: May 17, 1859, Mary L. was born in 1862 and James Thomas was born in 1867. They lived on the edge of Murray/Whitfield when they were young and then in Tilton Georgia. William was found in 1870, married and in Gordon County Georgia. Malinda (the mother) was found in 1870 in Murray County with the three children. I have not been able to find James (the father) in the 1850, 1860 or 1870 Georgia Census Records. In 1880 Malinda married John Evans from Sugar Valley Georgia. Located on this site, under Marriages, there is a J. S. Callahan(M) married M. Helton(F) on April 10, 1870. If anyone knows anything on this marriage or on James Callahan, please let me know.

I am searching for the Fowler family in Calhoun area with sons William or Bill(b. Oct. 1910) and Leroy. The parents may have been Mary and William. Bill Fowler married Ruth Harrell and moved to Knoxville, TN. Ruth had a sister named Virgie who married a Matthews and moved to Knoxville also. Virgie was born in 1915. The Harrells may have been from Okalahoma.

I am searching for information on James Harris (b. 1815 Green Co, GA) and (d. 1855 Gordon Co.) He married Abigail M. Fambrough who was born in 1818 Greene Co. and (d. 1891 Gordon Co.) Burried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. One of their sons was Thomas Jefferson Harris who married Virginia "Janie" Silvey.(obit for Virginia Silvery on this Gordon Co. site).

John is listed as a Mail Carrier Rural Route and that he owned property. Henderson, John W. age 47 $800 GA/Scotland/GA; Laura age 44 Wife GA/GA/GA; Ruby age 16 Dau. GA; Johnnie M. age 13 Dau. GA; Nina R. age 8 Dau. GA; Will N. age 5 Son GA; Lois age 3 10/12 GA; Thomas age 1 5/12 GA. Would appreciate any information on what happened to this family!

I am searching for connections to Mary, she was supposedly born in Rome, GA. and once lived in Resaca, GA. I do not know her parents names, but her father may have been either Thomas or Daniel Jackson. She was of Indian descent and her birthday may have been around 1889. She later married William Dudley Kindrick of Shelby Co, ALA. and they moved to Arkansas, Hot Springs, Hempstead and surrounding counties.

I am looking for any informtion on the William P. Martin family. I have found him on the 1880 census in Pickens Co, GA. with his family listed as wife- Perlina, from Virginia and children William H, Berrimon H, Queen Victioria, Martha V, Thomas, and Manda. I have received information that William could have moved to Oakman, Gordon, GA, with his family and there lived and died. If anyone has done research or has informtion on this family that they are willing to share, I would appreciate the help. Queen Victoria is my g-grandmother and I also have information on Martha V.

Searching for any information about William J. McGaha b abt 1775 in North Carolina. He is on the Gordon Co 1860 census records as William McGahef. He has 2 servants living with him as well as his grandson Josiah McGaha age 17. I think this is the William who married Mimy Patterson in Rutherford
Co, NC in 1792. Mimy either died early in the marriage or divorced him because he moved to GA and there is no evidence of her. On the 1820 Rutherford Co, NC census there is a Mima McGaughey and Mimra McGaughey, which adds to the confusion. Can anyone help me find anything on him? I'll be grateful for any tiny tidbit.

We are searching for information on David W. Neal of Calhoun, Gordon County. He served as an Ordinary in Calhoun from 1864 to 1873. Married Elizabeth W. (maiden name unknown). Had the following children: Nancy A., Susan A., Josephine C., Ellen Viola (married Thomas Dozier), Finis E., and James H. Neal.
Note: 1860 Gordon Co. GA. Census appears to list Finis as P. H. Neel, but later paper work and the 1870 census has him as Finis E. Neel..

Need information on the parents of Alphia Powell born in 1825, Cass County, GA. Married William Henry Dickert 17 December 1848 in Cass/Bartow County. Henry served in the Civil War with the 8th Infantry Battalion out of Gordon County. They lived in Gordon County after the war was over until 1867 or so. After the death of Henry ca 1869, Alphia moved with some of her children to DeKalb County, Al. One daughter married Cicero Parker, son of Daniel and Mary Parker of Gordon.

James Dyson Powell, born in South Carolina in 1824, died in Gordon County, Georgia in 1862. He owned a 50 acre farm near Resaca where my grandfather, William Allen Powell was born in 1862. James Dyson Powell was married to Susan Elvira Butler, the daughter of Hosea Butler, also of Gordon County.

William Augusta Robertson, born in Gordon County on October 23, 1856 and died in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on March 24, 1933. He married Nannie A. Hopkins in Gordon County on May 2, 1878. On his death certificate is list his father as Joseph Sheet or Sleet Robertson and mother as unknown.

Searching for any information on Alfred Wright, born 1813 in North Carolina; married to Mary (we think Mary "Polly" Pool, also born in North Carolina) - they were married 2/12/1836 in Newton, GA; eventually moving to Gordon County, Calhoun, Georgia, where they raised their nine children - Atlas (b. 1836), James B. (1838), Louisa M. (1840), Calvin J. (17 Oct 1842), Lucius (1844), Samuel Lycurgus (May 1847), Americus V. (1849), John M. (12 Apr 1849), and Mollie/Molly B. (8 June 1862 or 1853). I have gathered information on the following marriages for the children (no guarantee they're right, but am hopeful) - Atlas married Martha H.A. Sandiford 10 Aug 1862 in Chatam, GA; James B. married Elizabeth Osborn about 1860 in GA; Louisa M. married King; Calvin J. married Virginia Shelor about 1863; Lucius - no marriage found; Samuel Lycurgus married Frances Cornelia Griffeth (have most info on this branch - husband's gg-grandfather); Americus V. married Rhoda Hardee 12 Nov 1896 in Thomas, GA; John M. married Sudie Putman about 1894; and Mollie/Molly B. married Adolphus N. McClure 01 Feb 1876 Gordon, GA. Am looking for these children's grandparents - the parents of Alfred Wright back in North Carolina. If anyone has done research on the Wright line, I would appreciate any help. Also, if you know any of this information is wrong, please let me know. Thanks much!
