Quitman BAILEY, died September 14, 1882. There has scarcely been an issue of the Times this year that we have not had to chronicle the death of some citizen; and this time it is Mr. Quitman Bailey; who, after two months of severe suffering with typhoid, yielded last Thursday to that reaper whose name is Death. Never before was more sympathy felt for a stricken family. He leaves a wife and five small children to mourn him. May the goodness of Providence provide for the helpless. He was in the bloom of life and had promises of many happy and useful years before him. He was a man of great industry, and was of a very quiet and pious nature. Interment was is the Chandler Cemetery. {The Calhoun Times September 21, 1882}

William Hubbard BAILEY, 83, or as he is familiarly called Uncle Billy, one of the oldest citizens of this section of the country, is dead. He died at his home, in Gordon County, Calhoun, GA. last Saturday morning, July 16, 1892 at 7 o’clock, surrounded by his family and a number of friends. Uncle Billy’s life history is a most interesting one, and we regret not being able to give it in full here. He came to this country long before the Indians were removed from this section, and has resided in different places of the county ever since. The war came and found him a prosperous, wealthy man, but it swept his fortune all away. In 1850 he joined the Methodist church, and has since then, (for 42 years) lived the life of a true Christian. No one, perhaps, in Gordon County, was more conversant with the word of God than he, having read the Bible through eighty times, or more. He leaves a wife, whose health is feeble, and six children to mourn his death. His remains were interred in the Chandler Cemetery last Sunday morning July 17, 1892 at 11 o’clock, where he shall sleep peacefully near the home where so many years of his life were spent. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. T. Hamby in an impressive manner. Death has removed from our midst one of our most honored, and aged citizens, and one whose hundreds of friends will mourn his departure. To the sorrowing family The Times extends great sympathy. {The Calhoun Times July 21, 1892}
