Matt E. ELLIS, 78, a prominent Mason and Confederate veteran, and a resident of Gordon County, Georgia since the Civil war, died Tuesday April 4, 1922 at the Confederate Soldier's Home in Atlanta. He is survived by two sons, Harlan and Harry Ellis. Interment took place Wednesday April 5, 1922 in Fain Cemetery with Masonic honors, Rev. C.S. Henderson conducting the funeral. Mr. Ellis was known to hundreds of people throughout this section, and news of his death will bring sorrow to many friends. (Calhoun Times April 6, 1922)
