Martin Store Old Martin Store at Alto, photo in 1950s, initially operated by John Jefferson Martin and brother-in-law James Alexander Grant in 1897. ( I don't know if they built it or bought it.) Later operated by son, John Walter Martin and even later by son Thomas Marion Martin, one time Mayor of Alto. Truck in the center belonged to Lee Dorsey Cook who worked at the store and was one of the first employees of the Town of Alto. The old store site is the location of the current Alto Post Office.
