1838 Tax Digest
By Davine Campbell

I am Paul Herring Wetherington, g-g-g-grandson of Michael Herring
who was originally from Marion and Macon County, Ga. in the 1830's
and 1840's. My request is that you please let your records acknowledge
that the Harings shown in the 1838 tax digest of Macon County are
actually Herrings This is one of many spelling variations I have run
across in my research on this Herring line. The tax Digest includes
the names Joshua, Michael, Giles and William Haring. In my study of
the newspaper abstracts for this time period in Macon and Marion
County I find numerous occurances of the above given names but with
the surname spelled " Herring". The abstracts show no listing for the
spelling "Haring". If you would please add beside Haring [Herring] in
the tax digest it would be greatly appreciated and a tremendous help
 to all of the Herring
ancestors working on this family line. Thank you for your help
 with this. Paul H. Wetherington
