1840 CENSUS OF MACON COUNTY, GEORGIA

In typing the 1840 Census of Macon County. Georgia from copies of the microfilm on file in Washington Memorial Library in Macon, Georgia, I found some additions that were not listed in the printed Index of 1840.                                    I also found some changes that I made for my own personal use because after cross-referencing some questionable names, with The History of Macon County, Georgia by Mrs. Louise Hays and the 1850 Census and the 1852 Tax Digest, I decided to correct the ones that I have strong reason to think need changing.

I have made some notations that you will be interested in such as:

If a name were almost impossible to read, when I cross-referenced it I noted that I found it in either 1838 TD (Tax Digest) or I wrote it the way it looked on the 1840 census and the way it appeared in the 1838 Tax Digest. On some I found a slight difference on the 1840 printed Census Index (1840i) or 1850c (1850 census). I have put the Total number of people listed and the number engaged in agriculture or Mfg. and Trade. If there was a difference that I could not explain, I put a 7.
