WALTERS - The home of our brother, J. D. W. Walters, Jr., has been made sad by
the death of his only son, Jesse Willie Walters, and the little circle, which
had before been unbroken, now mourns the loss of one of its loved ones.
Willie was born Feb. 21, 1870. At the age of nine or ten years, he was attacked
with heart disease and has suffered from it ever since.
He was received by experience and baptism into the Traveler's Rest Baptist
Church in July 1887. [Much more, not copied.] The family put forth every effort
to arrest the disease and render his suffering as pleasant as possible.
To humor him, rather against the judgment of his father, he was carried to
Montezuma, two or three miles from home, to spend a day or two with his uncle on
May 22.
On the evening of the 23, feeling much worse and desiring to return home, his
uncle started to carry him; but while yet in town, he grew worse, so rapidly, he
had to be taken from the buggy and laid upon a counter in the drug store. Death
came in a very few minutes.
[Note: Jesse Willie, son of Jesse D. & Yetta Walters - Born February 21,
1870 - Died May 23, 1889 is buried in Traveler's Rest Baptist Cemetery beside
his father, Jesse D. Walters.] See OBIT

WALTERS, - DR. JESSIE D. WALTERS - Dr. Jessie D. Walters died at his home near
Montezuma, Ga. on the 18, of December 1893, aged 45 years. He was a true man in
all the relations of life, and a consistent member of Travelers Rest Baptist
Church where be was baptized in early youth and around whose sacred precincts he
loved to linger until the sun of life went down. He met the dark messenger with
Christian calmness and serenity and when life's golden sands were running low,
he ezpressed a bright and lively hope that he would meet his Saviour and loved
ones on the other shore. W.

buried in Travelers Rest Baptist Cemetery beside a son, Jessie Willie, son of
Jesse D. & Yetta Walters [Feb. 21, 1870 - May 23, 1889]
[We OOOPS'D in reading the marker for Jesse D. Walters, our "Cemeteries of
Macon County" uses October 18, 1893 as his death date, obituary uses
December __ 1893. It is impossible to get through the Travelers Rest Cemetery,
so use the date you find workable.]
From: MONTEZUMA RECORD; Printed in THE HAWKINSVILLE DISPATCH,
Hawkinsville, Georgia = Vol. 18, #40, Thursday Morning, October 2, 1884:
Information reached Montezuma on Tuesday morning that Ebb Westbrook, son of Mr.
E. W. Westbrook, died at the plantation of his father near Drayton, Dooly
County, on the evening before, of that dreaded and fatal disease - the low
country yellow fever...His remains were carried to Beulah, in Houston County and
buried on Wednesday morning.
[Note: E. W. Westbrook Born January 19, 1864 - Died September 22, 1884 has a
marker in the Felton Cemetery. There are several markers in Felton Cemetery that
also appear in the MC KENZIE FAMILY CEMETERY located on the southeast side of
State Hwy 26, 1 mi past Five Points Store. It [McKenzie] is an abandoned
cemetery and this makes me think that family members have placed memorial
markers in Felton Cemetery for at least part of the burials there.]Anyone having
knowledge of this, PLEASE RESPOND.
