MRS. FREIDA [Moore] BENNETT

Mrs. Freida Moore Bennett, 81, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Macon, died Thursday, February 17, 1972 in Tampa, Fl.
Mrs. Bennett was a former resident of Montezuma having operated the Union Dry Goods Company here for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Earl Ralph Bennett and Alvin Bennett, both of Tampa; four grandchildren; a brother, Max Moore of Perry; one sister, Mrs. Sol Bernstein of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Simon Moore of Macon.
Funeral services were held Monday in Tampa.

MRS. BEATRICE ADAMS BENTLEY

Mrs. Beatrice Adams Bentley, 66, of Montezuma, died Friday, August 1, at her residence. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Sunday, August 3, in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Guy G. Sayles, Jr. officiated and burial was in OAK GROVE CEMETERY in Americus.
Mrs. Beantley was born May 18, 1920 in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Emmett Adams and Lillian Jones Adams. She resided in Macon County for the past thirty years and was the retired owner of Betty's Beauty Shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Americus.
Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Donnie Lee Martin and Mrs. Georgia Ann Lamberth, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Sarah A. Wycoff of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Harvey Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pallbeares were, Sonny Lamberth, Winston Lamberth, Danny Williams, Johnny Bartlett, Cleve Mitchell, Billy Bartlett.

ROBERT EARL BELLEW

Funeral services for Robert [Robbie] Earl Bellew, 16, of Oglethorpe, Georgia were held at 2 PM Sunday, May 24, 1987, in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.
Robbie died Saturday, May 23, as a result of an auto accident. Burial was in OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS CEMETERY and Mr. John D. Barnes officiated. The son of Jack and Carol Bellew, Robbie was born April 6, 1971 in Macon County, where he lived all of his life. He was a ninth grade student at Macon County High School.
In addition to his parents, survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Debbie Singleton and Mrs. Pat Walden, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Pennie Teele of Ellaville, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Berta Ethridge of Oglethorpe and his paternal grandfather, Alvin T. Bellew of Roberta.

KELLY ANN BLACK [Infant]

Kelly Ann Black, eleven months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry D. Black of Montezuma, died July 18, 1972 at Macon Hospital after a brief illness.
Graveside services were held Thursday, July 10, at BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY with Rev. Kenneth Bush conducting the services.
Survivors are, other than her parents, one sister, Mechell Black of Montezuma; maternal Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Miller of Montezuma; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Black of Gadsden, Alabama.
Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

J. Walter Brand, 80, of Montezuma, Georgia, died Monday, October 19. 1987, in the Macon County Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 11 AM Wednesday, October 21, 1987 in the Montezuma United Methodist Church with burial in FELTON CEMETERY. The Rev. Freddie I. Wheeler officiated.
Mr. Brand, the son of O. B. Brand and Elizabeth Lacy Brand, was born in Cherokee Co., Ga., June 27, 1907. He was owner and operator of J. W. Brand Septic Tank Company. He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church. He resided in Montezuma most of his life.
Survivors are, wife, Sara Forehand Brand of Montezuma, three daughters, Mary Brand Howell of Dalton, Joyce Brand Maffett of Montezuma, Gloria Brand Hill of Atlanta, a brother, R. L. Brand of Montezuma, three sisters, Janie Brand Dye of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jessie Brand of Atlanta, Mittie Brand Summerford of Whitesburg, five grandchildren, Five great grandchildren.

FRED BREWER

Mr. Fred Brewer, well known retired farmer, died unexpectedly Wednesday in St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. He was 72.
Mr. Brewer, a native and lifelong resident of Taylor County, was a member and deacon in Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Schley County, had formerly served for many years on the Taylor County Board of Education and was a former board member from Taylor County of the Farmers Home Administration.
Funeral services were held Friday at 3 PM in PLEASANT HILL FREEWILL BAPTIST CHURCH with Rev. Homer Fowler and Rev. Irvin Hyman officiating. Burial was in the CHURCH CEMETERY. piano music was provided by Mrs. Linda Williams.
Pallbearers were Tony Tarrer, Ronald Massey, Willard Brewer, Hugh Wall, Hal Dillard and John Greene.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Donnie Mae Stephens Brewer, Route 1 Rupert; three daughters, Mrs. JoAnn Robinson of Ideal, Mrs. Betty Webb of Roswell, and Mrs. Susan Reynolds of Carlton; one son, Robert Brewer of Morrow; six sisters, Mrs. Nan Peacock of Plains, Mrs. Edna Stephens of Stone Mountain, Mrs. Ada Tarrer of Ideal, Mrs. Ida Wall, Mrs. Dot Hambrick and Mrs. Geraldine Dillard, all of Ellaville; also twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

   Mr. Julian "Shack" Brown, 78, of Montezuma, Georgia, died Friday, February 28, 1986, at his residence.  Funeral services were held at 3 pm Sunday, MNarch 2, 1986 in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.  Burial was in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY.  The Rev. Guy G. Sayles, Jr. officiated.

  Mr. Brown, a son of Charlie G. Brown and Manie Foreman Brown, was born in Clay County, Alabama, March 30, 1907.  He resided in Montezuma since 1921.  He was a retired supervisor at Southern Frozen Foods, an Army Veteran of World War II and a Prisoner Of War.

  Survivors are his wife, Lucille Johns Brown; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Dixon and Mrs. Flora Belle Grace, both of Perry, a number of nieces and nephews.

  Pallbearers - Mark Brown, Johnny Porch, Calvin Porch, Dick Carney, Robert Moretz, T. E. Fowler.  Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. BENJAMIN [Marietta Brown] BUSSEY

Mrs. Marietta Brown Bussey, 93, died Wednesday, May 28, 1975, in a Sumter County hospital after a long illness. Services were held at 4 pm Thursday in the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial was in FELTON CEMETERY with Rev. Dick Reese and Rev. Ken Bush officiating.
Pallbearers were Jim Brown, John Marvin Brown, Watt Brown, William Brown, Ben DeVaughn and Yancey Hill, Jr.
Mrs. Bussey was the widow of Benjamin Bussey who died in 1931. Her parents were the late Eugene Brown and Lula Fields Brown.
Mrs. Bussey, a lifelong resident of Montezuma, was the oldest member of the Montezuma United Methodist church. She was active in community, civic work and church work.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. W. T. Harrison of Atlanta, two nephews, E. B. Smith of McRae and M. M. Smith of Milan; seven first cousins: Mrs. Myrtis Fields and Mrs. Nell F. Dover, both of Montezuma; Mrs. Grant Stallings of Thomaston; Mrs. Charles Bowen of Macon, Dr. Will H. Fields of Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Oreola Allison of Vienna, Ga., Mrs. H. J. Lopex of St. Augustine, Fla.

MRS. THOMAS C. [Eva Brewer] BROOKS

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Brewer Brooks, 68, of Ideal, who died April 5, unexpectedly, were held Thursday, April 9, from the Ideal Baptist Church. Rev. Clarence Keene and Elder J. W. Hartley officiated and burial was in the IDEAL CEMETERY.

Pallbearers were Ira Kirkus, Fred Gilbert, J. L. Turner, J. W. Tarrer, Emory English, Dale Taylor, Buford Taylor and Larry Turner.

Mrs. Brooks was a lifelong resident of Ideal and the widow of Thomas C. Brooks.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. A. C. McDonald of Albany, Mrs. Bill Bryant of Waynesboro, Penn., Mrs. Jack James of Butler, Mrs. Marion Raburn of Sandusky, Ohio, Mrs. Floyd English of Ideal, Mrs. L. G. Collier of Pottsville, Penn; one son, G/Sgt. G. G. Brooks of Viet Nam; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Johnston and Mrs. H. K. Tarrer, both of Forrest Park. Twenty one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

WILLIS CARROLL BLOODWORTH

Willis Carroll Bloodworth, age 75, died Sunday night, October 17, 1971, at his residence in Oglethorpe following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Oglethorpe Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Gardner officiated and burial follow3ed in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Bloodworth, Calvin Rigby, Cecil Posey, Ronald Jones, C. W. Rucker and George Hall.
Mr. Bloodworth was retired from Kroger Peanut Company and had been employed by the Macon County Prison Branch prior to his illness. Formerly of Taylor County, he had lived in Oglethorpe for 36 years. He was a member of the Oglethorpe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Susie Page Bloodworth of Oglethorpe; one son, Willis Rosone Bloodworth of Oglethorpe, two daughters, Mrs. Ronald Jones of Montezuma and Mrs. Carl Ogletree of Macon; one sister, Mrs. Ida Spillers of Barnesville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

ERNEST LENWOOD BROWN

Funeral services for Ernest Lenwood Brown were conducted in the Chapel of Smith-Tindol Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, November 16, 1960. The Rev. W. W. Whaley and the Rev. J. C. Conoly officiated and burial followed in the OGLETHORPE CEMETERY.

Mr. Brown, 78 year old resident of Oglethorpe, died early Tuesday morning at the Macon County Clinic as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident late Friday afternoon. A native of Turner County, Mr. Brown had resided in Oglethorpe for the past 45 years. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, the former Blanche Adams; six daughters, Mrs. Ellie Witt, Mrs. Dorothy Wood of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Marie Sanders, Mrs. Elizabeth McRae of Macon; Mrs. Virginia Graves of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mrs. Claire Gallo of Dumont, New Jersey; two sons, E. Melvin Brown of Oglethorpe and H. B. Brown of Anniston, Ala.; three sisters, Miss Ruth Brown, Mrs. Alva Fulwood of Adel and Mrs. Archie Christain of Atlanta.

Funeral services for Riley P. Benford were held Monday, April 7th, at the Oglethorpe Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Gardner and the Rev. Homer Fowler officiated with burial in OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDNES.
Mr. Benford passed away Sunday, April 6th, at his home following a long illness. He was 70 years of age.
A retired well driller and farmer, Mr. Benford had lived in Macon County for 40 years, moving here from Taylor County. He was a member of the Whitewater Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Glen Lee Chase, Jr., Julian Webb, Jr., Clemon Odom, Chesley Gilmore, Hank Arrington, Chesley Cruomer, Rodgers Ireland and Herbert Benford.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Cromer Benford of Oglethorpe; three sons, J. F. Benford of Oglethorpe, J. A. Benford of Forest Park; Alonza Benford of Griffin; one daughter, Mrs. Greer Green of Pompano Beach, Fla; three sisters, Mrs. H. G. Ireland of Ashburn, Ga., Mrs. M. E. Edmanson, of Benton, Ky., Mrs. W. C. English, Jr. of Plains, Ga.; one brother, Robert Benford of Spring Lake, North Carolina, 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Oglethorpe - Ruby Kelley Bray, 89, of Route 1 Oglethorpe died Saturday in a local nursing home.
Services will be held Monday in White Water Baptist Church. Burial will be in KELLEY FAMILY CEMETERY. The Revs. Donald Brett and Homer Fowler will officiate.
A native of Macon, Mrs. Bray was a homemaker. She was a member of White Water Baptist Church and the widow of John Garrison Bray.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services for Samuel Greenberry Bentley, 60, who died in the Macon County Clinic Tuesday were held Wednesday at 3 pm at the White Water Baptist Church.

The Rev. Homer Fowler officiated. Burial was in the PINE LEVEL METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY.

Mr. Bentley was born in Cobb County and had lived in Macon County most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II and was a Macon County farmer.

Survivors include three brothers, Ed Bentley, James Bentley, both of Oglethorpe, Radford Bentley of Ft. Valley; five sisters, Mrs. Willie Kelly of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Johnny Williamson of Perry, Mrs. Mitchell Grover of Columbus, Mrs. W. F. McKenley of Atlanta, Mrs. Mary Ellen Massey of Ft. Valley.

Watson Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with Sidney Smith, Lewis Kitchens, Charles Hogg, Hixon Guest, Sr., Joe Coogle, Fred Payne, Wilbur Nelson and Wallis Raburn serving as pallbearers.

Graveside services for Karen Melinda Beavers, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Beavers of Vienna, were held Janruary 23, 1970 at the MT. VERNON BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY near Vienna. Rev. J. P. Farrow officiated.

The baby was born January 20th in the Americus Sumter County Hospital and died January 21st.

She is survived by, other than her parents, one brother, Scott Beavers, age three, Maternal grandparents are Mrs. J. W. Middlebrooks and the late Mr. Middlebrooks of Montezuma. Paternal grandparents are Mrs. Johnny Beavers and the late Mr. Beavers of Vienna.

Mrs. Mattie Mae Johnson Britt, age 88, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, died Thursday, October 11, 1984 in a Terrell County Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 13, in the Oglethorpe Church of Christ. Mr. William Potts officiated. Burial was in RED HILL PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY.
Mrs. Britt, a life long resident of Macon County, was born April 17, 1896, in Oglethorpe, the daughter of William Johnson and Alice Duke Johnson. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Britt and the retired owner of Britt's Cleaners and Shoe Repair Shop. She was a member of the Oglethorpe Church of Christ.
Survivors are two sons, Herman Britt of Oglethorpe, W. E. Britt of Plant City, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Lee Smith of Eufaula, Alabama, Mrs. Dorothy Koulouris of Athens, Greece; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Brown of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Elizabeth Mason, both of Macon, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wallace Britt, Howard Britt, Randy Britt, Rob Britt, Ronald Smith and Earl Smith.

Mr. James Bradford Bodrey, age 53, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, died Sunday, October 28, 1984 in the Macon County Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 3 pm Wednesday, October 31, in Valley Hill Tabernacle, with burial in OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS. The Rev. Felton Bloodworth, the Rev. Denver Richards and the Rev. T. J. Waldrop officiated.
Mr. Bodrey, the son of the late Henry Bodrey and Elizabeth Wainwright Bodrey, was born August 31, 1931 in Macon County where he lived all of his life. He was a retired butcher.
Survivors are his wife, Jo Ann Cromer Bodrey of Oglethorpe; two daughters, Mrs. Margeline Benford and Mrs. Wanda Layfield, both of Oglethorpe; one son, James Bradford Bodrey, Jr. of Panama City, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Frances Law of Perry; one brother, Jack Bodrey of Reynolds; his Step-mother Mrs. Henry Bodrey of Marshallville; seven grandchildren, Dennis Bodrey, Jeremy and Samantha Benford, Scotty and Heather Layfield, Brandy and James B. Bodrey, III, two sons-in-law, Benny Benford of Oglethorpe and H. L. Layfield of Americus; one daughter-in-law, Luanna Bodrey of Panama City, Fla.

Mr. Brown was a native of Ashland, Alabama but had resided in Montezuma for 60 years. He was retired from Southern Frozen Foods, Inc. Mr. Brown was a member of Woodmen of the World, and a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Ashland, Ala.
Surviving Mr. Brown is his wife, Mrs. Ruth Humphrey Brown of Montezuma; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jean Porch of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Riley O Nelson [Willie Ruth] of Slidell, Louisana, and Mrs. Clarence J. [Linda Kay] Carney of Montezuma; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Dixon and Mrs. Flora Bell Grace, both of Perry, Ga.; one brother, Mr. Julian Brown of Montezuma and 6 grandchildren.

Mr. Brand, a native of Cherokee County had lived in Byromville most of his life. He was a retired farmer

Funeral is Held for A. W. Brown [Submitted by Helen Hudson] Funeral services were held here Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for A. W. Brown, 73, prominent Warner Robins contractor, at the First Methodist Church. Rev. Carlton Carruth officiated with burial in MAGNOLIA PARK CEMETERY in Warner Robins. Brown died at his home Monday.
A native of Montezuma, Mr. Brown moved to Warner Robins in 1943. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Kate Brannon; six daughters, Mrs. W. J. Duke of Douglas; Mrs. S. T. Clark of Thomasville; and Mrs. Edna Smith, Mrs. James Heath, Mrs. John Dykes and Mrs. Roy Sasser, all of Warner Robins; eight grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Morris and Mrs. Evie Morris, both of Birmingham.

Mrs. Dovie Underwood Bradley, age 96, of Oglethorpe, Georgia died Monday, March 5, 1984, in the Montezuma Health Care Center. Graveside services were held at 11 am Wednesday, March 7, in PLEASANT GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The Rev. Jack McCollough officiated.
Mrs. Bradley, the daughter of R. R . Underwood and Martha Smith Underwood, was born July 15, 1887 in Macon County, where she lived most of her life. She was the wife of the late Henry J. Bradley. A member of the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter 1407. She was a retired school treacher.
Survivors are six nieces, Mrs. Sylvia Cheves and Mrs. Joyce Baldwin, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Helen Kent of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Martha Holland of Bronwood, Mrs. Ada Ruth McKenzie of Gainesville, Ga. Mrs. Hazel Rivers of Dunwoody; six nephews, James R. Bray and Morgan Bray, both of Oglethorpe, Herman Bray of Statesboro, The Rev. T. M. Underwood of Monroe, Sanford Underwood of Savannah, Roderick Underwood of Birmingham, Alabama.

Mrs. Mamie Forman Brown, 74, passed away Thursday, April 24, 1958 at a local hospital. She had resided in Macon County for the past 53 years and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Arthur T. Brown, Beeman Brown and Julian Brown of Montezuma, Johnny D. Brown and Corbitt Brown of Columbus and Brenton Brown of Fairchild, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Sara Dixon of Macon and Mrs. Flora Belle Grace of Fort Valley; five sisters, Mrs. Lula Vickers, Mrs. Maggie Brewer, Mrs. Vonnie Mattox, Mrs. Ocie Hamlin, all of Alabama. and Mrs. Ida Green of Marshallville. 14 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Montezuma on Saturday, April 26, with the Rev. C. G. Ward and the Rev. L. E. Williams officiating. Burial was in FELTON CEMETERY.
Pallbearers were Ed Fore, Marshall Timberlake, Calvin Porch, Al English, James Humphrey, Curtis Humphrey, Ralph Adams and T. E. Fowler.

Richard Bentley, 7, Dies After Short Illness; Rites Sunday.
Funeral services for Richard Brooks Bentley, 7, who died at an Augusta hospital Friday night following an illness of three weeks, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Fort Valley Methodist CVhurch.
The Rev. V. E. Robertson officiated and burial was in the OAK LAWN CEMETERY THERE.
The youth was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Radford B. Bentley former residents of Macon County, who now reside at Fort Valley.
Survivors other than his parents include his grandmothers, Mrs. R. L. Greene of Montezuma and Mrs. T. M. Bentley of Oglethorpe and a number of aunts and uncles.

Mrs. Bennett, a native of Taylor County, was born October 31, 1900, the daughter of Willis Jinks and Julia Downs Jinks. She had resided in Rome since 1954, moving from Macon . She was a homemaker and the wife of the late George Q. Bennett.

Mrs. Buckner was born January 22, 1903, in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lester. She resided in Macon County most of her life, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Montezuma. She was a graduate of Andrew College in Cuthbert and a graduate of Wesleyan College in Macon.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Betty Buckner Woolbright of Columbus; two grandchildren, Mrs. Martha W. Ray of Atlanta, Mrs. Laura W. Mashburn of Fairford, England.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Calvary Episcopal Church of which she was a member, with Father Robert D. Battin and Rev. C. D. Justice officiating. Burial was in the OGLETHORPE CEMETERY.

Funeral Services For Jared J. Bull Conducted Monday.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Methodist Church for Jared J. Bull, Oglethorpe attorney, who was a former solicitor of the City Court of Oglethorpe, mayor and councilman. Mr. Bull, who died at the age of 70 Sunday morning after an extended illness, held the post of solicitor for 20 years.
The Rev. W. W. Whaley, Rev. H. H. Sheppard and Rev. F. M. York were the officiating ministers and burial was in the OGLETHORPE CEMETERY. Pallbearers - Not Copied.

Mr. Bull was born in Talbotton and had practiced law since 1910. He attended Georgia Teacher's College and Mercer University, and graduated from the Atlanta Law School.
His father, Jessie J. Bull, was judge of the Macon County Superior Court for some years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Askins of Oglethorpe.

Funeral services for Clarence O. Brown, 81, who died Tuesday at the Goodwill Nursing Home in Macon, were held Wednesday at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The Rev. Harold Sheppard officiated and burial was in FELTON CEMETERY in Montezuma. Pallbearers were Brown Perry, E. L. Simmons, Lawrence Simmons, John Wadsworth, Madison Lowe and Wilburn Hortman.
Mr. Brown had lived in Oglethorpe most of his life and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Joseph M. Bearden, 81, Dies Following Stroke Tuesday.
Joseph M. Bearden, 81 year old resident of Ideal, died Tuesday at the Americus-Sumter County Hospital, having suffered a stroke earlier in the day. He had been in declining health for several years.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending communication with his son, Sgt. Wallace Bearden, stationed in London, England.
Born in Lowe Community, the son of the late John Wesley and Sara Cloud Bearden, Mr. Bearden had lived his entire life in Macon County. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ideal Baptist Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. B. W. Ivey of Ideal; four sons, J. T. Bearden of Griffin, Lester Bearden of Perry, Maurice Bearden of Bonaire and Sgt. Wallace Bearden; one sister, Mrs. Nina Harris of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

John Garrison Bray, 67, a resident of Miona springs Community near Oglethorpe, died Tuesday, October 30, in a local hospital following several weeks illness.
Born in Schley County, Mr. Bray had resided in Macon County for a number of years. He was a member of the Ellaville Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife [not named]; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Payne of Longwood, Fla., and Mrs. W. H. James of Ideal; two brothers, Martin Bray and James R. Bray of Oglethorpe.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning from Whitewater Baptist Church with Rev. U. W. Rollins and Rev. Henry Thomas officiating. Interment was in KELLEY CEMETERY, with the Masons in charge at the graveside. Smith-Tindol Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. BENNETT BATTLE [Corene Simmons] BROOKS

Final Rites Today For Mrs. Brooks, Prominent Citizen.
Mrs. Corene Simmons Brooks died Wednesday morning, December 26, in a local hospital following an illness of about two weeks.
Daughter of the late A. J. and Agnes Sherhouse Simmons, she was born in Effingham County, Georgia. She had been a resident of Montezuma since her marriage to the late Dr. Bennett Battle Brooks of Macon County. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Montezuma Methodist Church.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Fred Guerry, Mrs. R. C. Collier, Jr., both of Montezuma; Major Corene Brooks of Itazuke Air Force Base, Japan; Mrs. R. D. Johnson of San Lorenzo, Calif.; Mrs. Jack Comer of Lake Wales, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Charles A. Greer of Macon; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning [today] at eleven o'clock from the Montezuma Methodist Church with the Rev. L. E. Williams and Rev. C. G. Ward officiating. Interment will be in FELTON CEMETERY.
Dr. Tom Adams, Dr. Fred Adams, Edwin M. McKenzie, Jr., J. M. Levie, Watt Brown, Herbert McKenzie, Tom Marshall and Edgar Walker will be pallbearers.
Smith-Tindol Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES MARTIN BRAY

Charles M. Bray, Retired Miller, Buried Monday.
Final rites for Charles M. Bray, 72, who passed away at his home near Oglethorpe late Saturday afternoon were conducted from the Oglethorpe Baptist Church Monday afternoon with the Rev. Melvin York, pastor and the Rev. T. M. Underwood of Pelham, officiating. Burial was in the OGLETHORPE CEMETERY.
Pallbearers - Not Copied.
A retired miller, Mr. Bray was born in Schley County. He was a member of the County Line Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife [Note Named]; three sons, Morgan M. Bray, James R. Bray, both of Oglethorpe and Herman F. Bray of Statesboro; one brother, James R. Bray of Oglethorpe, two sisters, Mrs. L. B. Payne of Florida and Mrs. Leola James of Ideal and seven grandchildren.
Smith-Tindol Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

  Oglethorpe - Charlie Riley "Neal" Benford, 44, of Route 2 died Sunday [ January 24, 1988] in a Columbus hospital.

  Services will be held today in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.  Burial will be in LITTLE BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY in Ideal.  The Rev. T. J. Waldrop will officiate.

  A native of Macon County, Mr. Benford was a retired employee of Kinder Manufacturing Co. in Americus.

  Survivors include his mother, Allie P. Benford of Oglethorpe; four brothers, Willie W. Benford of Ellaville, Benny Benford and Stoney Benford, both of Oglethorpe, and Toney Benford of Buena Vista; and three sisters, Myrtis Benford and Claudia Wright, both of Oglethorpe, and Minnie P. Dawkins of Montezuma.

 PARNELL  FRANKLIN  BRENNAN, SR.

 Funeral services for Parnell Franklin Brennan, 66, of Oglethorpe, who died December 24, in an Americus hospital following a short illness, were held Sunday, December 28,  from the White Water Baptist Church.  Rev. Homer Fowler and Rev. Bill Guth officiated and burial followed in OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS with full Masonic rites.

  Local Masons served as active and honorary pallbearers.

  Mr. Brennan was born in Pennsylvania and was a steel construction worker.  He was a graduate of the Augusta Law School where he was a member of Sigma Delta Kappa fraternity.  He was a Shriner, 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of the Church of All Nations.

  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Bearden Brennan of Oglethorpe; one son, Parnell F. Brennan, Jr. of Hammond, Ind.; one stepson, William H. Rogers, Jr. of Cochran, one daughter, Mrs. Mike Golgan of Atlanta; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jeanette Wood of Cochran; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Brennan of Marshallville; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Villeneuve of East Alton, Ill.; 13 grandchildren.

  Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge.

 MRS.  ELIZABETH  RILEY  BRENNAN, 86.

 Services for Mrs. Elizabeth Riley Brennan, 86, of Oglethorpe, who died Saturday, were held Monday in the White Water Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Fowler officiating.  Burial was in the OGLEHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS.

  Pallbearers were Lewis Wood, Wade Bearden, John Wadsworth, Hudson Whatley, Roy Wood and Clemon Odom.

  Mrs. Brennan, a native of Pennsylvania, had resided in Oglethorpe for the past four years.  She was a member of the Methodist Church.

  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Villenueve of East Alton, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Brennan of Oglethorpe and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Redford of Brownsville, Pa.

Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge.

MISS   MAGGIE   BROOKS

Miss Maggie Brooks Passes After Long Illness;  Rites Sunday.
Funeral services for Miss Maggie Mae Brooks, 76, of Sumter County were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at graveside in IDEAL CEMETERY, the Rev. Henry Thomas officiating.
  Pallbearers were Ralph Gilbert, J. L. Turner, Reuben Williams, James Robinson, W. S. Robinson and Fred Payne.
  Miss Brooks died in a Milledgeville hospital Saturday after a long illness.
  Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Burgess of Atlanta and Mrs. G. L. Williams of Americus and several nieces and nephews.
  Smith Tindol Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

[Note:  I do NOT find a marked grave in the Ideal Cemetery for Miss Maggie Brooks, HOWEVER, I do find 3 adult UNMARKED graves beside her parents.
[I believe [?] that one is for Maggie Brooks and one other unmarked grave is for her brother, Dr. Thomas H. Brooks [b.ca.1890 d. June 1929] See his Obit.
[According to the 1900 Macon Co., Ga. Census their parents are Thomas S. Brooks [No dates] [b.ca. 1846 - d. after 1920 Census] CSA & Elizabeth Battle, beloved wife of T.S. Brooks [July 30, 1849 - December 23, 1923]  Added 12/28/2003
