OLIN FLOYD ENGLISH
Olin Floyd English of Andersonville died March 2, in a local hospital after a
short illness. He was 71 years of age. Funeral services were at 3 PM Saturday,
March 4, at the Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the MT. ZION
LUTHERAN CHURCH CEMETERY. Elder J. W. Hartley conducted the services and the
following served as pallbearers: Clifford Deriso, Calvin Owens, Merian Williams,
Emory English, Jimmy Bone, Ferrell English, Virgil Barfield and Melvin Pierce.
Mr. English was a lifelong resident of Macon County. A retired civil service
employee at Robins AFB, he was a member of Travelers Rest Masonic Lodge 65.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth English of Andersonville; two sons,
Floyd English of Andersonville and Curtis Ray English of Ellaville; a daughter,
Mrs. Danny Arthur of Andersonville; a sister, Mrs. Idolene Owens of Americus and
three grandchildren.

WILLIAM JARRETT EDWARDS
William Jarrett Edwards, 64, of Marshallville died Sunday at his home. Graveside
services were held Tuesday at 3:30 PM in EVERGREEN CEMETERY. [Does not give the
town, probably Jackson or possibly Evergreen in Macon]
Mr. Edwards was a native of Jackson and was retired from the Blue Bird Body Co.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Louise Murphy Edwards; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas
Borum of Ft. Valley and Mrs. Betty Ruth Moore of Atlanta; two sons, Donnie
Edwards of Dalton and William J. Edwards, Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.; three
sisters, Mrs. Robert Durden, Mrs. R. L. Hancock and Mrs. J. W. Beasley, all of
Macon; two brothers, Hartness Edweards of Macon and Talmadge Edwards of Dry
Branch.

Graveside services for Mrs. Dorothy Morse Edwards, 68, of Montezuma, were held
at 11 AM Monday, August 4, 1986 in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. The
Rev. Grable Page officiated.
Mrs. Edwards died Saturday, August 2, in Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.
She was born in Dooly County, a daughter of the late A. J. Morse and Corine
Shirah Morse. She had resided in Macon County since 1931 and was a retired
beautician. Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Marvin Edwards, a brother, Tracy Morse of Montezuma,
a sister, Mrs. Cornell Hamilton of Tallahassee, Florida and five grandchildren,
Roylynn C. Bielby of Tallahassee, Fla., Dorothy E. Bielby of Montezuma, John E.
Whitten of Danville, Va., Mary T. Whitten of Greenvielle, S. C. and Valerie J.
Whitten of Danville, Va.

MISS NANNIE LOU EDWARDS
Funeral Services Held Saturday For Miss Nannie Lou Edwards.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the County Line Baptist
Church for Miss Nannie Lou Edwards, 74, of Route 3, Ellaville, Ga. who died
Friday morning at her residence following a lengthy illness.
The Rev. H. H. Gregory, County Line Baptist pastor, officiated and interment was
in MT. VERNON CEMETERY in Macon County.
Survivors include a brother, W. L. Edwards of Ellaville; nephew,G. S. Edwards of
Ellaville; two nieces, Mrs. E. M. Allen of Americus and Mrs. P. J. McMickle of
Richland.

JOSEPH LEE EDWARDS
Joseph L. Edwards Passes In Atlanta.
Joseph Lee Edwards of Atlanta died in a private hospital there Saturday.
Mr. Edwards was born in Cuthbert and was reared in Marshallville, moving to
Atlanta in 1895. He had been associated with the A. B. and C. Railroad, the
Southern Railway and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, retiring in 1957 after
more than 60 years service.
Surviving are his wife [not named], a son, Joseph Lee Edwards, Jr.; two sisters,
Mrs. W. C. Lovett and Miss Kate Edwards.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Spring Hill in
Atlanta. Dr. Eugene T. Drinkard officiated and burial was in MARSHALLVILLE
CEMETERY AT 2 P.M. Monday.

Funeral Services For Mr. William Fred Edwards, 91.
Funeral services for Mrs. William Fred Edwards, 91, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, were
held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 1990 in Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Mr. Edwards died Sunday, April 15, in the Oaks Nursing Home. Burial was in
OGLETHORPE CEMETERY and the Rev. John Sims officiated.
A native of Fulton County, Mr. Edwards lived in Macon county most of his life.
He was a member of Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church, retired from Warner Robins
Air Force Base and the husband of the late Willie Mae Bryan Edwards. He was a
veteran of World War 1 and a member and present Commander of the Rawls Hogg
V.F.W. Post.
Survivors are his daughter, Miss Bessie Edwards of Oglethorpe; two sons, William
Fred Edwards, Jr.
and Robert Samuel Edwards, both of Nederland, Texas; three brothers, Paul
Edwards of Pittsburgh, Pa., Julian Edwards and Bob Edwards, both of Miami, Fla.;
five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

W. J. Ellis, 76, Passes Suddenly; Rites Held February 18th.
William Jacob Ellis, 76 year old resident of Oglethorpe, died Suddenly Thursday
night, February 16, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Mathis.
He was a retired farmer and had resided in Macon County since 1918.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert Mathis of Oglethorpe and Mrs. Joe
Brescia of New York City; two sons, Marvin Ellis of Jacksonville, Fla., and
Harvey C. Ellis of Oglethorpe; five sisters, Mrs. Clay Williams and Mrs. John
Robinson of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Sallie Souter of Ellaville, Mrs. Annie Larkin of
Columbus and Mrs. Foy Oliver of Americus, three brothers, Art Ellis and Robert
Ellis of Oglethorpe and Rufus Ellis of Ellaville; seven grandchildren and three
great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, February 18, at Oglethorpe
Luitheran Church with Rev. W. H. Martin officiating. Interment was in MT. ZION
LUTHERAN CEMETERY.

Funeral Services For M. H. English, 85, Held Monday.
Funeral services for Matthew Hill English,
85, were held Monday in the chapel of Smith-Tindol Funeral Home in Montezuma,
with Elder George Riley Hunt and Rev. John D. Zeigler officiating. Burial
followed in the the OGLETHORPE CITY CEMETERY.
Active pallbearers were A. J. Allmon, Glen Lee Chase, A. B. Robinson, Jr. Harvey
Ellis, Merian Williams, Luther Turner, Elton Chapman and W. M. Parker.
Honorary pallbearers were Jody Holloway, O. E. Smith, Glen Chase, Julian Webb,
John F. Williams, F. E. Bentley, Roy Mathews, Elza Woodall, T. L. Coogle, R. L.
Wiggins, Harvey Mathis, T. C. Braselton and S. C. Haddock.
Mr. English died unexpectedly Saturday enroute to the Americus-Sumter County
Hospital in Americus. A retired farmer, Mr. English was a life long resident of
Macon County.
Survivors include four daughters, Miss Pauline English and Miss Bethea English,
both of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Robert Brand of Byromville and Mrs. William Bentley of
Roberta; three sons, Derrick English, Sidrich English and Ferrell English, all
of Oglethorpe; one brother, Sam Joe English of Oglethorpe; one sister, Mrs. Dan
Kleckley of Oglethorpe; and three grandchildren.

MRS. EDWIN GLOVER [Mary Glover] OGBURN ENGLISH
Mrs. E. G. English Passes Away
Reynolds, Ga. Dec. 21. The death of Mrs. E. G. English, of Reynolds, was a shock
to the whole of Reynolds, Taylor County and adjoining counties Tuesday
afternoon. This venerable lady would have been eighty years of age next January
7th and her death is a source of grief to a wide circle of friends and
acquaintances.
Mrs. English was the daughter of Elder J. P. Glover, a Primitive Baptist
minister of note, and Matilda Vinson Glover.
Mrs. English having been married twice, her first husband was J. L. Ogburn who
died in 1884 while her second husband was the late Capt. E. G. English.
Mrs. English had been ill of the infirmities of old age with influenza
complications. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. O. E. English of Portland,
Oregon and Miss Melissa Ogburn, principal of Butler High School, of Reynolds.
Services at the home Wednesday and interment at GLOVER'S CEMETERY.

Mrs. W. H. Emerson Dies At Butler
Mrs. W. H. Emerson, 67, died in Butler Thursday following a two weeks siege of
pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted in the Little Bethel Church, with
interment in the LITTLE BETHEL CEMETERY. The Rev. M. J. Wood officiated,
assisted by the Rev. H. L. Lumpkin.
Pallbearers included Floyd Raburn, Clyde Raburn, E. C. Raburn, Jr., Bill
Halley and W. H. Mott. Honorary pallbearers included the Rev. Lumpkin, C. H.
Moore, F. J. Gilbert, the Rev. E. H. Dunn and the Rev. W. H. Lawhorn.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. W. H. Emerson; three daughters, Miss
Bessie Emerson, Mrs. Mary L. Stalnaker and Mrs. O. M. Williams; five
grandchildren; a brother B. L. Raburn and a sister, Mrs. Stella Lawhorn.

MRS. WILLIAM JACOB [Sallie Coogle] ELLIS
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ellis Thursday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Coogle Ellis, 39, wife of Mr. W. J. Ellis, who
died Wednesday morning at her home, eight miles out from Oglehorpe, were held at
MT. ZION LUTHERAN CEMETERY Thursday morning, conducted by her Pastor, Rev. D. L.
Heglar, Mrs. Ellis had been suffering from an incurable disease for the past two
years. She spent six months at Alto and returned home, some few months ago, in
an improved condition, while the improvement was of short duration, and she has
gradually been going down for the past six months. She was a woman of splendid
qualities, and numbered her friends by her acquaintances. As long as her health
would permit she took an active part in all civic affairs of her community, and
was one of the leaders in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, of which she was a
member.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are four children [not named], two
sons, and two daughters, and two half brothers, Mr. Sam Coogle of Sumter County
and Mr. Jno. Coogle, whose present address is unknown.
[Note: According to the 1920 Macon County, Ga. Census one son, Marvin Ellis and
two daughters, Fannie & Jessie M. Ellis are listed. Apparently the 4th child
[son] was born after 1920. Sallie L. Coogle Ellis [May 14, 1890 - September 18,
1929] is buried in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery beside her husband, William Jacob
Ellis [November 14, 1884 - February 16, 1961]

MRS. PAUL [Maude Johnson] EASTERLIN
Mrs. Paul Easterlin, Passes Sunday. [Microfilmed on curve - some words not

Mrs. Maude Johnson Easterlin, 58, wife of Paul C. Easterlin of Andersonville,
died late Sunday at a Montezuma hospital. Mrs. Easterlin suffered a cerebral
hemorrhage and was removed to the hospital.
She was a daughter of E. S. and Ella _____ Johnson. Mrs. Easterlin was born
January 16, 1886 in _______County. She was a member of Andersonville Baptist
Church and was prominent in the life of the community.
Surviving besides the husband, two sons, Lewis F. Easterlin and W. L.
Easterlin of Andersonville; two daughters, Mrs. J. C. Wise, Jr. of _____ and
Mrs. William M. Steed of Fredericks, Md. six grandchildren, four brothers, Cecil
Johnson, ___ford Johnson and E. W. Johnson, all of Oglethorpe, and ___ Johnson
of Fitzgerald; and as sister, Mrs. Homer Hughes of ___ville, Ga.
Services were held at the Andersonville Baptist Church with Interment in OAK
GROVE CEMETERY in Americus.

Funeral Services for Former Citizen, in Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 7, 1944 at the Fannin Funeral Home
in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for Joseph K. English, 72, retired merchant and
carpenter, who died at the Broward General Hospital, August 5th. Mr. English was
born in Macon county and lived here several years but moved to Ft. Lauderdale
about twenty years ago. He was a member of F. & A.M. at Oglethorpe.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie, and son, W. D. Brady. He is a nephew to
B. E. Robinson of Hollywood, Fla.

MRS. CHARLIE D. [Mary Anna Elizabeth Tarrer] ETHRIDGE
Funeral Services Held Monday For Mrs. Mary Ethridge.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 10, for Mrs. Mary Anna Elizabeth
Ethridge, whose death occurred late Sunday, after a long illness at the home of
her son, C. L. Ethridge of Oglethorpe.
A native of Macon County, she was the wife of the late C. D. Ethridge and the
daughter of the late John L. Tarrer and Nettie Jane Kendricks Tarrer.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Julian Webb, Mrs. H. L. Barfield and
Mrs. R. D. Hankerson of Oglethorpe, Mrs. B. A. Hand of Ideal and Mrs. J. A.
Barnes of Augusta; three sons, T. M. Ethridge and C. L. Ethridge of Oglethorpe
and W. A. Ethridge of Augusta; two brothers T. L. Tarrer of Ideral and W. H.
Tarrer of Oakfield, and one sister, Mrs. J. U. Williams of Oglethorpe. She was
the mother of Mrs. James T. Jones who died in Americus last week.
The services were conducted in the Oglethorpe Methodist Church by the Rev. J.
D. McCord, assisted by Rev. John Zeigler and Rev. Whaley and the interment was
in the COUNTY LINE CEMETERY.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For John Henry Eubanks.

John Henry Eubanks of Ideal died the afternoon of June 25, at his residence
after an illness of several months. Mr. Eubanks was sixty-three years old,
having lived in Macon County forty-seven years and a member of the Ideal
Methodist Church. He was born in Schley County on May 25, 1882.
Mr. Eubanks is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Green Eubanks, a daughter,
Mrs. T. H. Jolly; one brother, Luther Eubanks of Jacksonville, Fla. and two
sisters, Mrs. J. __ner of Lake City, Fla. and Mrs. Will Eaton of Jacksonville,
Fla.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock from the Ideal
Methodist Church with Rev. J. D. McCord officiating. Interment was in the IDEAL
CEMETERY.

Marshallville, Ga. Mrs. W. C. Ewing died at a Homestead hospital in
Homestead, Fla., Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Funeral services were held in Homestead Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Ewing is the former Miss Pauline Martin. She is survived by her husband
and one son, Albert Hinman, of Homestead, three sisters, MRS. W. A. JOLLY of
Atlanta; Mrs. S. B. Carter of Ozark, Ala.; and MISS MIRIAM MARTIN of
Marshallville. Three brothers, T. J. Martin of Marshallville, W. B. Martin of
Macon, and R. F. Martin of Marshallville and Lakeland, Fla.; an aunt, Miss Lula
Martin of Marshallville and several nieces and nephews.
