ROBERT H. SUTTON
Saturday and Sunday were sad days in Oglethorpe. On the former, the soul
of our esteemed friend and fellow townsman, Robert H. Sutton, winged its
flight, and on the latter, his body was laid to rest in the silent city
of the dead.
Mr. Sutton had been ill several weeks. He first took his bed on account
of a distressing accident in which a log fell upon his ankle, crushing
the bone to pieces. After the bones had been set, and the sufferer was
on the high road to recovery, a new complication suddenly appeared in
another part of the body, entirely independent of the injury caused by
the accident. An operation affording but little relief, it was thought
best to take Mr. Sutton to the City Hospital at Macon, where several
days later another operation was performed, which was a complete
success, but also failed to remove the trouble. He gradually grew
weaker, and after a marvelous battle for life, sank into his last sweet
sleep.
His remains were brought to his home here Saturday, and buried Sunday,
in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends,
the ceremonies being conducted by Rev. G. P. Reviere, Rev. J. S. Elmore
and Rev. J. T. Ainsworth.
Mr. Sutton was about 40 years old, and leaves a widow and two children,
besides his aged, mother and other immediate relatives. To them in these
hours and days of sorrow, the sympathy of all goes out.
Mr. Sutton was one of the most prominent and popular young business men
of this section. He had large timber and agricultural interests, and was
a model of perservance, pluck and energy. He was always one of the most
amiable men we have ever known and no one can say aught against him. His
heart was true and his character above reproach. He was a consistent
member of the Methodist Church and a loyal member of the Masonic
fraternity, and will be missed there as elsewhere.
It is hard to understand why he should have been cut down in the midst
of a career of usefulness, but we bow in humble submission to an All
Wise Father, who gave and has taken away, and doeth all things well.

possibility] However, Volume II of "Historical and Genealogical Collections of
Dooly County, Ga." by Nora & Watts Powell list a Collier Cemetery on the
D.L.Hardegree place, abt. one mile off Vienna-Campground road. I have not as yet
