Mrs. Jane Rice Naugle, 92, of Marshallville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 3, 2005, at her daughter's residence in Cochran. Funeral services were held at 11 am. on Monday, Sept. 5, at MARSHALLVILLE CITY CEMETERY. Rev. Donald Woeltjen officiated.

Born on Nov. 23, 1912 in Marshallville, she was the daughter of the late George Rice and Catherine McGehee Rice. Mrs. Naugle served as a Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II in North Africa and Italy. She later served as a public health nurse in Macon County. She was a faithful member of Marshallville United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hanold Naugle.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law: Betty [Vassar] Rackley of Ft. Valley and Peggy [Marvin] Maddox of Cochran; two grandchildren; Vassar [Julie] Rackley, IV and Katheryn [Alex] Ganster; and four great grandchildren; Richard, Georgia, Ethan and Josey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to United Hospice, 4125 - 4th, East Avenue, Cordele, Ga. 31015; Marshallville United Methodist Church; or Charity of one;'s choice.

The Rev. Thomas Jackson Neill, Sr., 62, of 619 N. Dooly Street, Montezuma, Ga., died Sunday, June 26, 1994 in The Oaks Nursing Home, Marshallville, Georgia.
Services were held at 2 pm Monday, June 27, in First Baptist Church, Montezuma. The Rev. Troy Sheffield officiated and burial was in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY in Montezuma.
Rev. Neill, a native of Newnan, Georgia, was born August 22, 1931, the son of Jonie Lee Neill, Sr. and Leila Hale Neill. He had resided in Montezuma since 1977, was a graduate of Mercer Univ ersity and was a Southern Baptist minister. He served the following churches: Red Bluff Baptist of Soperton, Ga. Stuckey Baptist of Glenwood, Ga., Benevolence Baptist of Ft. Valley, Ga. Macedonia Baptist of Manchester, Ga., Shawmut First Baptist of Shawmut, Alabama, Ashburn First Baptist of Ashburn, Ga., Cedar Valley Baptist of Montezuma; Lighthouse Baptist of Warwick, Ga., Mt. Pleasant Baptist of Pinerview, Ga.
He was the husband of the late Ruth Smith Neill and a member of First Baptist Church in Montezuma.
Survivors are a son, Tommy Neill of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Alice N. Ross and Mrs. Amanda N. Edwards, both of Montezuma; Mrs. Denise N. Carter of Sycamore, Ga. two brothers, Jone Lee Neill, Jr. and Henry Neill, both of Griffin, Ga., a sister, Mrs. Elsie Parker of Jonesboro; six grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruth Smith Neill, 62, of 619 North Dooly Street, Montezuma, died Saturday, April 23, 1994, in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Graveside services were held at 3 pm Sunday, April 24, in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY in Montezuma. Dr. Randy Gregg officiated.
Mrs. Neill, a native of Griffin, Georgia, had resided in Montezuma since 1977. She was the owner of Jewelry & Gifts Galore, and was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Montezuma. She was born on July 6, 1931, the daughter of Tommy D. Smith and Clynder Turner Smith.
Survivors are her husband, the Rev. Jack Neill of Montezuma, a son, Tommy Neill of Jacksonville, Florida; three daughters, Mrs. Alice N. Ross and Mrs. Amanda N. Edwards, both of Montezuma; Mrs. Denise N. Carter of Sycamore, Georgia, her mother, Mrs. Clynder Smith, a sister, Mrs. Esther Kirkland and a brother, T. D. Smith, Jr. all of Griffin, Georgia. six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

M. C. NELSON DIES IN OGLETHORPE
Funeral services were conducted at the residence in Oglethorpe at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon for Moody C. Nelson, 30, whose death at his home Thursday followed an illness of several months.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Dooly County, but had made his home in Oglethorpe for the last 12 years during which time he was operatior at the A.B. and C. railroad depot. He was a member of the Lilly Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Gladys English, a little daughter, Jane, his mother, Mrs. J. A. Nelson of Lilly; sisters, Mrs. W. G. Pilcher of Ellaville, and Mrs. Jim Spears of Kernersville, N.C.; five brothers, Pierce Nelson and Orson Nelson of Lilly; E. B. Nelson of Douglas, Lory Nelson of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Paul Nelson of Fort Meade, Fla.
The services were conducted by the Rev. W. W. Whaley assisted by the Rev. D. L. Heglar and the interment was in Oglethorpe Cemetery.

Noted educator Dr. Sara Nelson, 92, died last Monday in Milledgeville. An Oglethorpe native, she had many friends in Macon County.

Funeral services were in the First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville with burial in the OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS CEMETERY. Dr. Harold Lawrence officiated.

Dr. Nelson was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and taught in the math department there from 1930 until 1968. She served as chairman of the math department and as president of the Alumni Association from 1943 until 1947. She received her master's degree from Cornell University in 1937 and her doctorate in 1939. She was awarded the Alumni Association Achievement Award in 1952 and the Alumni Heritage Award in 1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School

Survivors are her nieces, Louise C. Nelson of Milledgeville, Mary nelson of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mary bedingfield of Cadwell.

Memorial donations may be made to the Milledgeville United Methodist Church Growth Fund.

Our chapter is made sad by the going away of our faithful daughter, Mrs. C. A. Neel. When her health permitted, she was always present in our meetings and ready to do her part. She was a long sufferer, but bore it all with that christian fortitude that had characterized her for more than three score years. Much more not copied.
May it be said of us as Daughters of the Confederacy, as we feel as the Master said to her. "It is finished, come unto me, and I will give you rest."
Resolved 2nd, that we extend to her only daughter, Mrs. R. E. Tooke and to her bereaved family our heart felt sympathy.

Oglethorpe – Hazel Rodgers Nelson, 73, of Route 1 died Tuesday. Services will be held today in Whitewater Baptist Church . Burial will be in PINE LEVEL CHURCH CEMETERY . The Revs. Homer Fowler and D. P. Ward will officiate.

A native of Tift County , Mrs. Nelson lived in Macon County for most of her life. She was a licensed practical nurse, an employee of Montezuma Health Care Center and was a member of Whitewater Baptist Church .

Survivors include her husband, John Robert Nelson of Oglethorpe; two sons, Dr. Ellis Harold of Augusta and John Charles Nelson of Jonesboro; a daughter, Virginia N. Simmons of Oglethorpe; a brother, Carl Rodgers of Oglethorpe; and eight grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Margaret Newcomer, 66, who died Wednesday in a Springville hospital, were held Friday in OAKLAWN CEMETERY in Fort Valley .

Mrs. Newcomer was a native of Montezuma and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anderson.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Haven of Springville; two sons, William A. Newcomer of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Ad Charles E. Newcomer of Atlanta ; a brother, Dr. William J. Anderson of Florence S.C.

Andrew John Nassamer, Jr. died Sunday, October 12, 1975 at the Houston County Hospital in Warner Robins . He was 45 ytears of age, a native of San Antonio , Texas , but had lived in Warner Robins for seven years, having previously lived in Dayton , Ohio . He was a Civil Engineer at Robins A.F.B. and a retired commander of the Civil Air Patrol, Warner Robins . He was also former City Clerk of Marshallville. He was of the Methodist denomination.

Surviving Mr. Nassamer are his wife, Mrs. Theodora Sue Hammond Nassamer of Warner Robins; one sister, Mrs. James W. Burrowes of Dayton , Ohio ; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Geist of St. Louis , Missouri .

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 15, 1975 at the Marshallville Methodist Church with Burial in the MARSHALLVILLE CEMETERY . Chaplain H. B. Walker officiated for the service.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Funeral services for Roy Samuel Norris, 50, of 598 Rogers Drive, Macon, who died Saturday in a Macon Hospital, were held Monday in Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Vernon Brown and Dr. Clyde Martin officiated. Burial followed at 3:30 in Oglethorpe City Cemetery.
Mr. Norris was born and educated in Macon County. He had lived for the past 29 years in Macon. A member of the Baptist Tabernacle, Mr. Norris was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army. He was a salesman for the Macon Cigar and Tobacco Co. He was the son of the late Green Norris and the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Green Norris of Macon County.
Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Lanelle Larkin of Macon; one son, Mike Norris of Macon; four brothers, Paul G. Norris and Fred Norris of Macon, Harvey Norris and the Rev. Leighton Norris both of Americus; one sister, Mrs. C. C. Ledger of Americus.

JOHN ROGER NEWSOME, SR.

Mr. John Roger Newsome, 85, of Route 1, Ideal, died Monday, December 7, 1992, in the Flint River Community Hospital in Montezuma.
Services were held at 2 pm Tuesday, December 8, in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma. The Revs. Don Rice and Mike Bond officiated with burial following in the OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS CEMETERY in Oglethorpe.
Mr. Newsome, a native of Morris, Georgia had resided in Macon county since 1976. He was a retired salesman for the Fuller Brush Company and a member of Whitewater Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 237, Quitman.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Clarice Wood Newsome of Ideal, a son, John Roger Newsome, Jr. of Moultrie, a daughter, Mrs. Blanche N. Land of Jacksonville, Florida, and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Malcolm Wood, Jr., Kelly Wood, Greg Renfroe, Butch Shamburger, Neil Newsome, Roger Newsome and Ken Moore.

Funeral services for Drury Samuel Norris, 74, who died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 2, at his Andersonville residence, were held Friday from Reese Park Chapel in Americus with the Rev. J. Arthur Linn of Oglethorpe officiating.

Mr. Norris was a native of Macon County and had spent most of his life in the Andersonville Community. He was a son of the late Andrew S. Norris and Sara Bedenbaugh Norris. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Cut-Off Community.

Survivors include the widow, the former Docia Jordan and two daughters, Mrs. J. R. King and Mrs. B. F. King, all of Andersonville; one son, Andrew Samuel Norris of Macon; brother, Green Norris of Sumter County; sister, Mrs. W. C. Fairbanks of Nashville, Tenn.; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included Coy Ray, Alex Rouse, Olin Holloway, Ed Rodgers, J. R. Johnson and Otis Gwynes.

Charlie Lewis Neisler of Reynolds died November 6, 1980 at his residence. He was age 81. Services were held Friday, November 7 at PLEASANT GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH with burial in the CHURCH CEMETERY. Rev. Sam Taylor and Rev. Ralph Beckwith officiated.

Mr. Neisler was a lifelong resident of Macon Co. He was a farmer and merchant of Macon Co. He was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern Agri College.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Lee Railey Neisler of Reynolds; four sons, Tray H. Neisler and Steve L. Neisler of Warner Robins, Hugh L. Neisler of Macon, Charles E. Neisler of Reynolds; a sister, Ellen N. Underwood of Oglethorpe; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Mrs. Lucille Cochran Northern died Thursday, January 31, in the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Mrs. Northern was 89 years of age. She had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Baldwin of Macon and Mrs. L. C. Cheves, Jr. of Montezuma.

A widow of the late H. E. Northern, Mrs. Northern was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Montezuma and she was a homemaker.

Surviving Mrs. Northern are three nieces, Mrs. L. C. Cheves, Jr. of Montezuma, Mrs. A. J. Baldwin of Macon and Mrs. Conrad Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; two nephews, Rev. T. M. Underwood, Jr. of Monroe, Ga. and Eric Glaze of Sycamore, Ga. a number of nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Northern were held Saturday, February 2, in the chapel of Watson Mathews Funeral Home. Burial was in FELTON CEMETERY, the Rev. T. M. Underwood, Jr. and Rev. C. G. Ward officiated.

Funeral services for Bradley Webster Norwood, 22 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Norwood of Montezuma, were conducted Tuesday at Gardner Watson's Chapel.

The Rev. Mack Johnson, pastor of First Methodist Church, Douglas and Rev. L. E. Williams officiated. Burial followed in FELTON CEMETERY.

The child died Monday at the home of his parents. Other survivors include a brother, Edwin Pierce Norwood; grandparents, E. Pierce Wood of Sandersville and J. M. Kern of Atlanta.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Lee Nelson, 80, who died Thursday in an Americus Hospital, were held Friday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. J. D. Eldridge and Rev. Carl Ayers officiated and burial was in GLOVER CEMETERY near Reynolds.

Mrs. Nelson was a native of Macon County and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Joe Nelson.

Johnson, Sr. of Columbus; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Andersonville Native, Dies in Americus Hospital.
Harvey D. Norris, 69, died Saturday in an Americus hospital. Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday in Reese Park Chapel in Americus. Burial was in OAK GROVE CEMETERY in Americus.
Mr. Norris, a native of Macon County, had lived in the Andersonville area. He was a retired farmer and also retired from Manhattan Shirt Co. Mr. Norris was a member of Andersonville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Velma Bray Norris of Andersonville; a daughter, Mrs. Delores McKinley of Centerville; a sister, Mrs. Clinton Ledger of Americus; three brothers, J. Fred Norris and Paul G. Norris, both of Macon and the Rev. Leighton R. Norris Lumpkin; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lanelle Norris of Macon; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Nelson died Saturday following serveral months illness.
A native of Alexander City, Ala., he had lived here forty years and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

Funeral services for Miss Jane Nelson, 30, of Oglethorpe, who died Thursday, March 5, in a local hospital, were held at 11 AM Saturday in the Oglethorpe Methodist Church.

A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe, Miss Nelson was a graduate of Oglethorpe High School and attended the Woman's College of Georgia in Milledgeville. She had served as librarian at Oglethorpe for the past two years, and was an active member of the Oglethorpe Methodist Church and its Woman's Society of Christian Service.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Gladys E. Nelson; her grandmother, Mrs. J. R. English, both of Oglethorpe; two aunts, Mrs. M. B. Cheek of Oglethorpe and Mrs. Jim Spears of Kernersville, N. C. ; two uncles, C. O. Nelson and P. M. Nelson, both of Lilly; and a number of cousins.
