Citizens & Georgian – Montezuma, Ga. September 19, 1963 MRS. JOSPEH S. [Minnie Lee Johnson ] NELSON Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Lee Nelson, 80, who died Thursday in an Americus Hospital, were held Friday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. J. D. Eldridge and Rev. Carl Ayers officiated and burial was in GLOVER CEMETERY near Reynolds. Pallbearers were: Franklin Barfield, Tommy Barfield, ___vey, Barfield, and Jimmy Barfield, Billy Trussell, Joe Trussell, Jacky Trussell, and Bobby Trussell. An honorary escort was composed of the following: Oscar Simmons, R. O. Slaton, Brown Perry, Dr. R. A. Collins, Davis Whatley, Gann Nelson, G. A. Trussell and Johnny Williams. Mrs. Nelson was a native of Macon County and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Joe Nelson. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. W. M. Trussell of Oglethorpe and Mrs. E. F. Barfield of Warner Robins; two sons, George B. Nelson of Warner Robins and Edgar F. Nelson of Hagerstown, Md.; two [Step] brothers, W. O. Sheppard of Phenix City, Ala., and Hayes Sheppard of California; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert C. Johnson, Sr. of Columbus; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. [Note: Minnie L. Nelson – Born December 22, 1882 – Died September 12, 1963 is buried in Byrd-Glover Cemetery, State Hwy 263, N. of Reynolds [Taylor Co.], Ga. beside her husband, Joseph S. Nelson [June 29, 1880 – Dec. 1, 1933]

John Robert Nelson, 90, of Oglethorpe passed away
Thursday, April 24, 2003. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday,
April 27, in the PINE LEVEL METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY in Oglethorpe.
Born in Harris County, he was the son of the
late John Nelson and Ella Allen Nelson. He was the husband of the late Hazel
Rodgers Nelson. He was a produce farmer and a member of the Whitewater Baptist
Church, where he was a deacon and attended Sunday School.
He is survived by his children; John C. Nelson
of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Dr. E. Harold Nelson of Augusta, and Virginia N.
Simmons of Oglethorpe; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral
home.
Watson Mathews Funeral Home had charge of the
arrangements.

March 12, 1964 Final Rites Held Saturday For Miss Jane Nelson Funeral services for Miss Jane Nelson, 30, of Oglethorpe, who died Thursday, March 5, in a local hospital, were held at 11 AM Saturday in the Oglethorpe Methodist Church. The Rev. Lewis Strickland, the Rev. H. H. Sheppard and the Rev. F. M. York officiated and burial was in the OGLETHORPE CEMETERY. Pallbearers were William Smith, Wayne Lashley, Sanders Smith, Jimmy McDaniel, Jule Webb, Jr. Hixon Guest, Jr. and Hixon Guest, Sr. A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe, Miss Nelson was a graduate of Oglethorpe High School and attended the Woman's College of Georgia in Milledgeville. She had served as librarian at Oglethorpe for the past two years, and was an active member of the Oglethorpe Methodist Church and its Woman's Society of Christian Service. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Gladys E. Nelson; her grandmother, Mrs. J. R. English, both of Oglethorpe; two aunts, Mrs. M. B. Cheek of Oglethorpe and Mrs. Jim Spears of Kernersville, N. C. ; two uncles, C. O. Nelson and P. M. Nelson, both of Lilly; and a number of cousins. Watson-Mathews Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of arrangements. [Note: Jane English Nelson [December 14, 1933 - March 5, 1964] is buried in Oglethorpe Cemetery beside her Mother, Gladys English Nelson [5-26-1908 - No death date on marker in 1993.
