FRED LEE VANZANT

Fred Lee Vanzant, 66, of Americus, died August 21, 1985 at the Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus after a short illness.

Funeral services were held on August 23 at 2 o'clock at the Assembly of God Church. urial was in the OAK GROVE CEMETERY in Americus. Rev. Charles Chapman of LaGrange and Rev. Crowly of Ft. Valley officiated.

Mr. Vanzant served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He received a Purple Heart and a metal of honor. He was born in Turner County on March 20, 1919.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Cromer Vanzant; one son, Larry Vanzant of Americus; one brother, James Vanzant of Montezuma; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Mae Vanzant Layfield of Montezuma, Mrs. Nell Vanzant Brown of Ellaville and Mrs. Annett Vanzant Grant of Macon; several nieces and nephews.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

DR. JOHN CLIFFORD VINSON

Dr. John C. Vinson, Former Resident, Passes In Florida
Dr. John Clifford Vinson of Fort Myers, Fla., died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home.
He was born and reared in Montezuma, the son of the late Dr. J. W. Vinson and Mrs. Willie Vinson McElmurray. He had practiced medicine in Tampa and Fort Myers, Fla. for more than forty years.
Survivors include his wife [not named], one daughter, Fern Armeda of Fort Myers; two sons, Clifford Esley Vinson of Florida and John William Vinson of Harvard University and one sister, Mrs. Mae Walsh of Montezuma.
Funeral and burial services will be conducted Thursday [today] in Fort Myers.

MRS. GARY [Estelle Merritt] MARNEY VINSON, JR.

Estelle Merritt Vinson, 91, of Montezuma, Ga., passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1998. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 pm in Montezuma First Baptist Church. Burial following in FELTON CEMETERY. Dr. Lamon Brown. Born in Gordon County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late F. L. Merritt and Maude Bentley Merritt. She was the widow of the late Gary Vinson, Jr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Montezuma where she attended the Bethany Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her children: Donald R. Marney of Dade City, Florida; Gary Vinson, III of Montezuma, Ione Brown of Centerville, Georgia; Joy Athon of Suwannee, Georgia; Travis Vinson of Houston, Texas, 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, North Dooly Street, Montezuma, Georgia 31063.
Watson-Mathews Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. DeVaughn, Former Resident, Passes Suddenly.
Funeral services for Mrs. Redding DeVaughn of Washington, Ga. were conducted Sunday afternoon at Tignall Baptist Church near Washington.
Mrs. DeVaughn, a former resident of Montezuma, died suddenly Friday night in Atlanta where she was attending a meeting of Georgia Pilot Clubs. She was Secretary of Wilkes County Board of Education for many years and was recently elected President of the Washington Pilot Club. She was an active member of Tignall Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Redding S. DeVaughn; one son, McLendon DeVaughn, both of Washington; her mother, Mrs. Moses Lott of Nichols; two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services for Carl Ulman Vincent, 46, of Long Island, New York, formerly of Montezuma, were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from Smith tindol Funeral Home. The Rev. Louis Gholson officiated and burial was in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK.

Pallbearers were P. H. Stewart, Jack Tatum, Lamar Chapman, Walter Cole, Alvin Jackson and Gordon Brown.

Mr. Vincent passed away November 23 in Long Island. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by three brothers, John L. Vincent of Montezuma, Earl Vincent of Miami, Fla., and Sgt. Nunis W. Vincent of Ft. Jackson, S.C.; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Grogan of Montezuma.

DORIS RABURN VANZANT
Doris Raburn Vanzant, 80, of Montezuma, Ga. passed away Monday, September 9, 2002. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Watson Mathews Funeral Home. Burial followed in the BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. Rev. Charles Chapman and Rev. Tim Weaver officiated.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Raburn and Susie Massey Raburn. She was the widow of Jim Vanzant. She was a retired seamstress from Forrest Mills. She was a member of the Community Friendship Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She played piano for the church for over 40 years.
She is survived by her children: Robert Vanzant of Warner Robins, and Dean Price and Hazel Vanzant, both of Montezuma; four greandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Beulah Fountain Vickers, 66, a native of Peach County who died Sunday at her residence in Corpus Christi, Texas, will be conducted Thursday in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. Elder B. F. Young will officiate and burial will follow in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY in Montezuma.

Pallbearers will be Carl Maxey, Louis Williams, Leslie Williams, Y. T. Sheffield, Edwin Batton and Judson Allen.

Survivors include her husband, V. J. Vickers; two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Henderson of Montezuma and Mrs. C. H. Sheffield of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, Al. F. Swearingen of Pasadena, Calif.; one brother Green Fountain, of Ft. Valley; four sisters, Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs. Paul Stallworth, both of Macon, Mrs. Sam Peterseil of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Harmon Thames of Ft. Valley; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

James Linwood Vinson of Montezuma passed away Sunday, April 18, 1976 at the age of 49. He was a native of Wilkinson County , Ga. but had lived in Montezuma for the past 14 years. He was a truck driver with Southern Frozen Foods, Inc. He was a native of World War II. [?]

Funeral services for Mr. Vinson were held Tuesday, April 20, at Watson Mathews Funeral Chapel and burial was in RAMAH CEMETERY in Gordon , Ga.

Surviving Mr. Vinson are his wife, Pearl Watson Vinson of Montezuma; two daughters, Mrs. William Brewer of Warner Robins , Mrs. Wallis Walls of Greensboro , N.C. , his mother, Mrs. Annie Brown Vinson of Gordon, Ga. ; five brothers, Robert R. Vinson of McIntyre, Ga. Benjamin R.Vinons , Arthur B. Vinson, Joseph H.Vinson and Andrew W. Vinson; four sisters, Mrs. Odis Nelson of Macon, Mrs Arthur Bullington, Mrs. Johnny David of Gray, Mrs. Charles Bell of Stockbridge, Ga.

Funeral services were conducted at the residence in Montezuma Tuesday for Mrs. Leila Espy Vance, 72, widow of the late W. E. Vance, former citizen of Montezuma and well known figure in Georgia political circles. Mrs. Vance died after a lingering illness at the home of her brother, R. W. Espy, with whom she had made her home following the death of her husband. She was before her marriage, Miss Leila Espy, of Buford, Ga.

Mrs. Vance spent many years in Montezuma when her husband was engaged in business here and she was active in the social and church activities of the community. Her friends and family welcomed here return to her old home a year ago.

Surviving are two brothers, R. W. Espy of Montezuma and J. F. Espy of Americus; four sisters, Mrs. C. E. Shadburn of Baltimore; Mrs. Ed Turner of Bristol, Tenn; Mrs. Claude Holloway of Monroe, N.C.; and Miss Glady Espy of Moultrie.

Mrs. Jessie Lee Vincent, 69, died at _eyesville Tuesday morning following a long illness. Widow of the late John William Vincent, she had resided here since 1921.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James Grogan of Montezuma; four sons, John L. Vincent of Macon; Earl Vincent of Miami; William Nunis Vincent of Fort Jackson, S.C. Carl Vincent of N.Y. N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Burton of Birmingham and Mrs. Molly Curlee of Sylacauga, Ala.; three brothers, Arthur Nunis, Ben Nunis of Birmingham and Howard Nunis of Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the chapel of Smith-Tindol Funeral Home, with Rev. McCoy Johnson and Rev. C. G. Ward officiating. Interment will be in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. Smith-Tindol in charge of arrangements.
