Citizens & Georgian - Montezuma, Ga. September 4, 1985 FRED LEE VANZANT Fred Lee Vanzant, 66, of Americus, died August 21, 1985 at the Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus after a short illness. Funeral services were held on August 23 at 2 o'clock at the Assembly of God Church. urial was in the OAK GROVE CEMETERY in Americus. Rev. Charles Chapman of LaGrange and Rev. Crowly of Ft. Valley officiated. Mr. Vanzant served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He received a Purple Heart and a metal of honor. He was born in Turner County on March 20, 1919. Survivors include his wife, Lois Cromer Vanzant; one son, Larry Vanzant of Americus; one brother, James Vanzant of Montezuma; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Mae Vanzant Layfield of Montezuma, Mrs. Nell Vanzant Brown of Ellaville and Mrs. Annett Vanzant Grant of Macon; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Carl Ulman Vincent, 46, of Long Island, New York, formerly of Montezuma, were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from Smith tindol Funeral Home. The Rev. Louis Gholson officiated and burial was in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK. Pallbearers were P. H. Stewart, Jack Tatum, Lamar Chapman, Walter Cole, Alvin Jackson and Gordon Brown. Mr. Vincent passed away November 23 in Long Island. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by three brothers, John L. Vincent of Montezuma, Earl Vincent of Miami, Fla., and Sgt. Nunis W. Vincent of Ft. Jackson, S.C.; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Grogan of Montezuma. Smith-Tindol Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. [Leila Espy] VANCE Funeral Services Held Tuesday for Mrs. Leila Vance Funeral services were conducted at the residence in Montezuma Tuesday for Mrs. Leila Espy Vance, 72, widow of the late W. E. Vance, former citizen of Montezuma and well known figure in Georgia political circles. Mrs. Vance died after a lingering illness at the home of her brother, R. W. Espy, with whom she had made her home following the death of her husband. She was before her marriage, Miss Leila Espy, of Buford, Ga. Mrs. Vance spent many years in Montezuma when her husband was engaged in business here and she was active in the social and church activities of the community. Her friends and family welcomed here return to her old home a year ago. Surviving are two brothers, R. W. Espy of Montezuma and J. F. Espy of Americus; four sisters, Mrs. C. E. Shadburn of Baltimore; Mrs. Ed Turner of Bristol, Tenn; Mrs. Claude Holloway of Monroe, N.C.; and Miss Glady Espy of Moultrie. Interment was in FELTON CEMETERY. Mrs. Jessie Lee Vincent, 69, died at _eyesville Tuesday morning following a long illness. Widow of the late John William Vincent, she had resided here since 1921. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James Grogan of Montezuma; four sons, John L. Vincent of Macon; Earl Vincent of Miami; William Nunis Vincent of Fort Jackson, S.C. Carl Vincent of N.Y. N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Burton of Birmingham and Mrs. Molly Curlee of Sylacauga, Ala.; three brothers, Arthur Nunis, Ben Nunis of Birmingham and Howard Nunis of Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the chapel of Smith-Tindol Funeral Home, with Rev. McCoy Johnson and Rev. C. G. Ward officiating. Interment will be in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. Smith-Tindol in charge of arrangements. [Note: Jessie L. Vincent [1882 - 1954] is buried in Bertha Dozier Cemetery beside her husband, John W. Vincent [1872 - 1951] See his obit.
