MRS.
JOHN WESTBROOK [Ella Missouri Duke] AYCOCK
Funeral
services for Mrs. Ella Missouri Duke Aycock, 82, were held
Saturday, May 4, 1963 in the Bethea Funeral Home in
Louisville, Ga, with the Rev. C. H. Donaldson and Elder W.
C. Kicklighter officiating. The remains were then moved to
Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church near Oglethorpe where a
short service was conducted by Elder J. W. Hartley. Burial
followed in RED HILL PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY.
Mrs. Aycock, a native of
Macon County, died Thursday, May 2, 1963 at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. S. Bruce McNeely in Bartow, Ga. Her husband,
the late John Westbrook Aycock, died in 1943. She was the
daughter of the late James D. Duke [possibly James J. Duke]
and Mrs. Missouri Lee Duke and at one time was dietician at
a school lunchroom. She was a member of Red Hill Primitive
Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her
daughter are one son, James T. Aycock of Birmingham, Ala.; a
foster daughter, Mrs. Joseph Goodwin of Macon; one sister,
Mrs. W. A. Roberts of Birmingham, Ala.; 19 grandchildren and
36 great-grandchildren.

JOHN FLETCHER WILLIAMS
John Fletcher Williams, age 80, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, died
Thursday, February 6, 1986, in Northside Hospital, Atlanta,
Georgia. Funeral services were held at 3 pm Friday, February 7,
in the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church. The Rev. Earl
Seckinger officiated and burial was in OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL
GARDENS CEMETERY.
Mr.
Williams, a life long resident of Macon County, was born January
28, 1906, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fletcher
Williams. He was a member and on the Board of Stewards of the
Oglethorpe United Methodist Church and a member of the
Oglethorpe Lions Club. He was the former owner of the Bank of
Oglethorpe.
Survivors are, hs wife, Sara Blanche Riddle Williams; two
daughters, Mrs. Sara Ann Maffett of Montezuma, Mrs. Mary Lynn
Shealy of Oglethorpe; three brothers, Charles L. Williams of
Macon, Leslie R. Williams and Robert Louis Williams, both of
Montezuma; five sisters, Mrs. Martha Kate Horton, Mrs. Mary
Louise Fore and Mrs. Ann Elizabeth ______, all of Montezuma,
Mrs. Nora Jackson of Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Hazel Frances Horne
of Charlotte, N.CV.; four grandchildren.

charge of arrangements.

Bro. David
L. Wicher/Wicker was born 6th February 1822 in Newberry District,
South Carolina, and died in Macon County, Georgia on 31st December
1867. He was converted at Ebenezer C.M.S.C.... his removal to
Georgia in 1859. He was married 15th December 1842 to Nannie J.
Lane...S.Anthony.

Hays, please look on pages 645 - 651 for a history of the Wicker
Family submitted by Nan Wicker Clements. This book was published in
1934

Capt. D. L. Wicker - Ga. Milit. CSA Marker No Dates in Travelers
Rest Cemetery, just below the Montezuma City Limits. Born February
6, 1822 and died December 31, 1867 according to the Death Notice.

According to the Wicker Family History he was born April 6, 1822 and
died December 31, 1868.
[Note:
Mrs. Nancy Wicker is buried in the Felton Cemetery inLot 51 South
West Side Pg. 53 in a Cemetery Book presented to the City of
Montezuma in 1930 by Capt. J. M. Brown.. There are burials recorded
in that book yet the markers have long since disappeared.

MRS. RICHARD AARON [Evelyn Estelle Pitts] WILSON
Mrs. Evelyn Estelle Pitts Wilson, age 75, died Monday, May 9, 1983 in
the Americus and Sumter County Hospital. Funeral services were held at 3
pm Wednesday, May 11, in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Potterville, Georgia.
Burial was in the MT. OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The Rev. Denver
Richards, the Rev. Bobby Whitaker and the Rev. H. M. Skipper officiated.
Mrs. Wilson was born September 21, 1907 in Jacksonville, Florida, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pitts. She lived in Oglethorpe
approximately one year, moving from Potterville where she lived most of
her life. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Richard Aaron
Wilson.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Sam Wright, Mrs. L. W. Cromer
and Mrs. Robert Hill all of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Joe Howell of Fort Valley
and Mrs. Alton Childree of Reynolds; one sister, Mrs. Cora Blair of
reynolds; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

DOUBLE RITES FOR MR. WRIGHT HEAD AND MRS. LAURA WALKER [Uncle & Niece]
A double funeral was held at Red Hill Church Sunday afternoon, when services
were conducted for Mr. Wright Head, well-known citizen of Macon County and his
niece, Mrs. Laura Walker of Hollywood, Fla., whose body was brought from
Hollywood, following her death there Saturday morning.
The body of Mr. Head was found near his home about 7:30 Saturday morning, with a
gun shot wound through head and a shotgun by his side. He had been absent from
the house several hours. A coroner's inquest was held and a verdict of suicide
rendered. No motive was known. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Head
and leaves his wife and one brother, Arthur Head.
Pallbearers were Charlie, Allen, Harry, Russell and Frank Head and Charlie Head,
Jr.
Mrs. Walker 21, daughter of the late Lawrence Kitchens and Mrs. Kitchens, who
now lives in Hollywood, Fla., was a former resident of Macon County. Her death
from general peritonitis followed an illness of five weeks.
She is survived by her husband and baby. The interment was in Red Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Art Ellis, John English, David Webb, R. L. Britt, Lewis
Barfield and Oliver Coogle.
The joint service was conducted by the Rev. G. A. Briggs, pastor of the
Oglethorpe Baptist Church.
This is the second double funeral, uncle and niece, at Red Hill Church within a
year. Mr. Bob Mathis, of Americus and his niece, Miss Olla Mathis of Oglethorpe,
were buried on the same day at Red Hill Church last October.
[Note: There are no marked graves in the Red Hill Cemetery for either Mr. Wright
Head or Mrs. Laura Kitchens Walker] There are however, side by side, two adult
unmarked graves between C. A. Head [1879-1954] & Frances Duke, wife of C. A.
Head [1877-1943]

Mrs. W. H. Wynens Dies Unexpectedly
Funeral services for Mrs. W. H. Wynens, 77, of Hillsboro, who died
unexpectedly, Sunday in a Monticello hospital, were held Tuesday at 2
p.m. in the Hillsboro Baptist Church. Burial was in the HILLSBORO
BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. E. B. Henderson of Atlanta; two
sons, Dr. W. E. Wynens of Valdosta and James C. Wynens of Macon; two
brothers, M. B. King of Montezuma and G. C. King of Americus and seven
grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Grace Parks Whitting Held Sunday At Mt. Zion.
Mrs. Grace Parks Whittington, 62, of Oglethorpe, died Friday, February 15, in a
Vienna hospital. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Mt. Zion-St.Luke
Lutheran Church. Burial was in FELTON CEMETERY. Mack McDowell officiated.

Mrs. Whittington, a lifelong resident of Macon County, was a retired employee of
Forest Mills of Montezuma. She was a member of Mount Zion-St. Luke Lutheran
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Faye W. Mygrant of Oglethorpe; her mother,
Mrs. Maggie Parks Clickner of Montezuma; a sister, Mrs. Nina Peaster of
Montezuma, three brothers, Phillip Parks of Palatka, Fla.; Fred Parks of
Montezuma and Eugene Parks of Oglethorpe and four grandchildren.
Watson-Mathews Funeral Home of Montezuma had charge of arrangements.

WALTER 'BUCK' C. WAITS of Atlantic Beach, Fla.
Walter [Buck] C. Waits of Atlantic Beach, Florida died Sunday
afternoon, October 22, unexpectedly at his home after a short illness.
He was a native of Ashburn, Ga., veteran of World War I and
superintendent with the B. B. McCormick and Sons Construction Company.
He is survived by his widow, Arlia Dyal Waits. Funeral services wer held
Tuesday morning in the Chapel Giddens - Griffin Funeral Home at
Jacksonville Beach with the Rev. W. C. McKeller, Presbyterian minister,
officiating. Interment was Tuesday afternoon at OGLETHORPE CEMETERY with
the Rev. Laurance S. Russ officiating. Mrs. Waits is a sister of Mrs. R.
L. Rodgers of Oglethorpe. [Note: Walter Cicero Waits - Born March 21,
1901 - Died October 22, 1967 - The WWI marker Born March 27, 1902] is
buried in Oglethorpe Cemetery beside his wife, Arlia Dyal Waits [Dec.
18, 1907 - Oct. 28-1985]

WILLIAM BRANDT WHATLEY
Funeral services for William Brandt Whatley,
69, of Montezuma were held Saturday, February 20, 1971 from the Chapel of Watson
Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. R. O. Edenfield and Rev. C. G. Ward officiated and
burial was in the FELTON CEMETERY. Pallbearers - Not Copied.
Mr. Whatley passed away in a local hospital after a short illness, Thursday,
February 18. A native of Ashland, Alabama, Mr. Whatley had resided here for 46
years. He was a retired businessman and a member of the Montezuma Methodist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Maffett Whatley of Montezuma; one
daughter, Mrs. R. T. Dozier of Montezuma; one sister, Mrs. W. B. Kessler of
Montgomery, Alabama; several nieces and nephews also survive.

MRS. TOMMIE O. [Gladys Chambliss] WEBB
Mrs. Gladys Chambliss Webb, 71, died Friday night, March 24, 1978 at her
residence after an apparent heart attack. Services were held at 2 pm Sunday in
Mount Zion St.Luke Lutheran Church. Burial was in OGLETHORPE CEMETERY.
Dr. Harvey Huntley and Rev. Roy Gardner were the officiating ministers.
Pallbearers were Lewis Kitchens, Ronnie Kitchens, Tommy Kitchens, Jule Webb,
Jr., Clyde Chambliss, Norman Andrews, Clinton Ledger, J. G. Ledger and W. E.
Webb.
Mrs. Webb, a native of Sumter County, had lived in Oglethorpe 54 years and was a
member of Mount Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, L. O. Webb of Anderson, S. C.; a daughter, Mrs. Andrew
Todd of Gay; a brother, J. L. Chambliss of Marshallville; a sister, Mrs. Mary
Lou Kitchens of Oglethorpe; and five grandchildren.

MRS. PEGGY JOAN HAMPTON BIELBY WHITTEN
Mrs. Peggy Joan Hampton Whitten of Brunswick died Sunday, February 26. She was
37 years of age and a native of Montezuma. She graduated from Montezuma High
School and the University of Georgia. She has been a stewardess with T. W. A.
and was a farrier. She lived for several years in Virginia, returning to
Montezuma last year. She was living in Brunswick where she was employed as desk
clerk with Best Western Motel.
Mrs. Whitten is survived by four daughters, Miss Roylyn Cammie Bielby, Dorothy
Bielby, Mary Whitten and Valerie Whitten and one son, John Whitten, all of
Brunswick; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Edwards of Montezuma and a number of
aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whitten were held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Montezuma
United Methodist Church with Rev. Dick Reese and Dr. A. W. Merillat,
officiating. Burial weas in BERTHA DOZIER MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. Pallbearers -
Not Copied.

WALTER BENJAMIN WILLIAMS
Funeral services for Walter B. Williams, 81, of 757 Pineview Avenue, Macon,
Georgia, who died Friday, February 10, 1978 were held at 2 pm Sunday in the
Ideal United Methodist Church in Ideal. Interment was in the LOCKWOOD FAMILY
CEMETERY [IDEAL CEMETERY] in Ideal, Ga. Rev. Clarence Keene will officiate.
Mr. Williams was born in Macon County and educated in the Ideal Schools. He was
a retired bus driver and farmer and was a member of the Ideal United Methodist
Church. He had been a resident of Macon for over 10 years.
Survivors include two sisters; Mrs. Robert E. Dent of Macon and Mrs. Paul Fouts
of Gainesville; 2 brothers, Thomas Williams of Macon and Reuben Williams of
Ideal; several nieces and nephews.
