DEATH OF MRS. DAN WILLIAMS
Mrs. Dan Williams died Thursday morning at her home at
Grangerville after a lingering illness. She was Miss Lizzie
Barnes before her marriage to Mr. Williams and she leaves one son, Norman Williams and her husband and several other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
The funeral was held in the Lutheran Church and she was laid to rest in the cemetery there. The services were conducted by Rev. A. W. Quillian.

 MRS. J. F. [Minnie Plemons ] VANZANT WISHAM

 Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie P. Vanzant Wisham, 69, who died Oct. 4, 1963 in a local hospital, were held Saturday, October 5, in the Whitewater Baptist Church.

 The Rev. Homer Fowler and the Rev. H. F. Royal officiated and burial was in the PINE LEVEL CEMETERY.

 Pallbearers were Ernest Price, Boyette Streetman, Warren Grimsley, Bruce Shultz, Charles Chapman and Mike Register.

 Mrs. Wisham was a member OF Whitewater Baptist Church and had lived in Macon County most of her life.

 Survivors include four sons, Plemons Vanzant of Oglethorpe, James Vanzant of Montezuma, Fred Vansant of Smithville and Tom Vanzant of Albany; four daughters, Mrs. Herman Layfield and Mrs. Otis Cromer, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Calvin Layfield of Columbus and Mrs. Harold Grant of Havana, Fla.; one brother, Clifford Plemons of Ringgold; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 Watson-Mathews Funeral Home of Montezuma, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. JAMES A. [Susan Grissett] WELCH, SR.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Grissett Welch, 80, who died Saturday night in a Tifton hospital after a short illness, were held Monday in the Fort Valley Methodist Church. The Rev. Roy McTier officiated with burial in the OAKLAWN CEMETERY

 

A native of Troy, Ala., Mrs. Welch lived most of her life in Montezuma. She moved to Fort Valley a number of years ago and after the death of her husband, James A. Welch, Sr., in 1954, she made her home with her daughters. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by one son, James A. Welch, Jr. of Augusta; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond Jackson of Fort Valley, Mrs. J. F. Warren and Mrs. Leman Smith, both of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Sidney H. Murphy of Tifton, and Mrs. L. C. Tallent of Montezuma; one brother, James Grissett of Troy, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

 

Rooks Funeral Home of fort Valley was in charge of arrangements.

 Richard A. Wilson 55, of Reynolds died Wednesday night at his residence there.

 Funeral services were held Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with burial in the MT. OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY.

 Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Pitts Wilson of Reynolds; one son, James A. Wilson of Reynolds; six daughters, Mrs. L. W. Cromer and Mrs. Frank Harris, both of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Robert Hill and Mrs. Joe Howell, both of Fort Valley, Mrs. Hilton Shirah of Americus and Mrs. Alton Childree of Reynolds; one sister, Mrs. Leon Felker of Ideal; and 12 Grandchildren.

 GURVEOUS LESTER WINDHAM, SR.

 Gervis L. Windham, Sr. died at his home in Reynolds early Sunday morning, February 17, 1963 after an extended illness. Mr. Windham was a former resident of Ideal. 

Surviving are two sons, Capt. Gervis L. Windham, Jr. of Fort Sill, Oklahoma and William Davis Windham of Halloway, Florida.

 He is buried at HILLCREST CEMETERY in Reynolds, Ga.

MRS. J. P. WADDELL
Mrs. J. P. Waddell, age 66, died at her home here Sunday afternoon, after an illness of several months duration and for the last few months it was seen that she was gradually growing weaker, so the end was not unexpected.
She was a consistent member of the Baptist Church here.
A mighty good woman whom all that knew her loved. She was preceeded to the grave by her husband, J. P. Waddell by thirteen years. She leaves two sons, W. H. Waddell of Pierson, Ga. and Clarence Waddell of this place; one daughter, Mrs. John Herring of Macon; three brothers, Messrs. Tom, John and Jim Hall, all of this county and two sisters, Mrs. W. G. Childs and Mrs. John B. Childs; and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
The funeral services were held at the Church here in town and interment was at Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery near Grangerville. Rev. Fred Smith of Montezuma and her pastor Rev. H. F. Jelks, conducted the funeral.

MRS. JANE BELL WARLICK, 84. FUNERAL NOTICE Mrs. Jane Bell Warlick, age 84, passed away at a local nursing home, November 6, Graveside services were held in Marshallville, Tuesday,November 9 with Rev. Charles Robertson officiating. Mrs. Warlick was a native of Anniston, Alabama. Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Malcolm MacFarland of Arlington, Virginia; one brother, Christopher Bell of California; one sister, Mrs. P. W. Crump of Montgomery, Ala. and a sister-in-law, Mrs. W. MRS. CATHERINE JEWELL WICKER, 81 OBITUARY Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Jewell Wicker were held Sunday, December 29, from Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church in Oglethorpe. The Rev. John Underwood officiated with burial in Oglethorpe Cemetery. Mrs. Wicker resided in Houston, Texas and was 81 years of age. She passed away Friday, December 27th at her home. The widow of Luther Wicker, she was a member of the Mt. Zion-St.Luke Lutheran Church. Pallbearers - not copied. Survivors include one son, Luther J. Wicker, Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Sue Wilbman, Williston, Fla., Mrs. G. W. Roberts and Mrs. Annie Pearl Schulenburg, both of Houston, Texas; two sister-in-law, Mrs. J. E. McGough of Montezuma, Mrs. Pearl Peede of Hazleburst; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family is presently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hammock of Oglethorpe. BOBBY J. WISHAM OBITUARY

Funeral services for Bobby J. Wisham, 26, of Oglethorpe, who drowned on April 6th while swimming in the Flint River near Oglethorpe, were held Friday, April 12, from Corinth Methodist Church near Oglethorpe. The Rev. Laurance Russ officiated and interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus. Born and reared in Macon County, Mr. Wisham was employed as a linesman by the Sumter Co. Electric Co. in Americus. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Linda Mygrant Wisham and two sons, Mitchell and Joe, all of Oglethorpe; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Wisham of Oglethorpe; a brother, Benny Wisham of Andersonville; three sisters, Mrs. Maureen Davis of Lake Blackshear, Mrs. Cecil Posey of Perry, and Mrs. Virgil Wright of Andersonville. Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, for John Wisham, age 60, who passed away at a Montezuma Hospital, Wednesday, June 14, 1967, following a lengthy illness. Services were held at the Whitewater Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Ayers officiating. Interment was in SAND BETHEL METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY South of Butler [Taylor Co.], Ga. Surviving Mr. Wisham are his wife, Leah Halstead Wisham, one daughter, Mrs. Ida Mae Butler, four brothers; William Wisham of Leesburg, Bud Wisham of Montezuma, J. F. Wisham of Ellaville, Clem Wisham of Albany; three sisters; Mrs. William Bodrey of Unadilla, Mrs. Homer Ross of Albany, Mrs. E. S. Foster of Cordele; two grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Born in Taylor County, he had resided in Macon County for 30 years. Pallbearers: Raymond Hunt, Clement Odom, Billy Kelley, Rufus Jones, Lewis Wood, Kelly Bearden and Marvin Mygrant. [Note: John Wisham - Born 1906 - Died June 16, 1967 is buried in Sand Bethel Cemetery in Taylor County according to "Cemeteries of Taylor County" by Hay & Stewart.]

WILBURN D. "Preacher" WATSON, 57, FUNERAL HELD
Funeral services for Wilburn D. "Preacher" Watson, 57, of Montezuma, who died Saturday, July 8, in a local hospital after several months illness, were held Monday afternoon from the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. C. G. Ward officiated and interment was in FELTON CEMETERY. Pallbearers were Jimmy Spradley, Theron Beard, Phil Peaster, Wm. Robert Peaster, Milton Edwards and George Massey. Mr. Watson, life-long resident of Macon Co. was a well driller. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Eve Spradley, two sons, Wilburn Eugene Watson and Jimmy W. Watson and five daughters; Misses Kay Watson, Joette Watson, Betty Watson, June Watson and Cecile Watson, all of Montezuma; one brother, Alvin L. Watson of Montezuma; three sisters, Miss Ola Watson of Columbus, Mrs. Evelyn Robson of Lakeland, Fla.; and Mrs. Della Avery, Alpharetta; and granddaughter,Vicki Watson of Mt'zma. [Note: Wilburn D. Watson - Born November 2, 1909 - Died July 8, 1967 is buried in Felton Cemetery beside his brother, Ocie W. Watson [1898-1944] [According to the 1920 Macon Co., Ga. Census Wilburn D. MRS. JAMES W. [Louise Ham] WATERS Died July 23rd
Funeral services for Louise Ham Waters were held Sunday, July 26, at Reynolds United Methodist Church. Burial was in HILLCREST CEMETERY in Reynolds. Mrs. Waters died Thursday, July 23, 1998 in a Marshallville Nursing Home. Mrs. Waters, a native of Macon County, lived in Reynolds most of her life. She was a member of Reynolds United Methodist Church. She was retired as Billing Supervisor with Flint Electric Membership Corporation with 40 years of service. She was the widow of J. W. Waters. Survivors include a brother, Thomas Ham of Montezuma and a sister, Jean Wood of Norfolk, Va. and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Reynolds United Methodist Church, P.O.Box 266, Reynolds, Ga. 31076. Rev. Ramos Freeman and Rev. Bill Woodson officiated. Pallbearers were Lawrence Cook, Larry Casey, Bobby Aultman, Tommy Ham, Terry Ham and Carl Ham. Goddard Funeral Home of Reynolds had charge of arrangements.

TOM E. WILLIAMS, PROMINENT MACON COUNTY FARMER, DIES - Funeral services for Tom E. Williams, prominent Macon County farmer were held at his residence at 3 pm Sunday, with the Rev. W. W. Whaley of Lumpkin officiating. Mr. Williams died at his home Saturday night at 10 o'clock. Burial was at LOCKWOOD CEMETERY in Ideal.
Mr. Williams had been in declining health for several years. He was born in Jefferson Co., Fla., March 5, 1858, moved to Macon County at an early age, and spent the remainder of his life in the Ideal Community.
His wife, the former Emma Lockwood, preceded him in death six years ago. To their union were born nine children of whom seven survive: W. C. Williams, and T. W. Williams of Oglethorpe, Ga., Walter, Ruben and Berta Williams of Ideal; Mrs. Paul Fonts of Gainesville, Ga., Mrs. Willis Holman of Leslie, Ga. There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were: Billy Childs, Jim Dominy, Monroe Dominy, Joe Hines, David Childs and Lester McCarty.

Funeral Services for W. T. Whittington Are Held Saturday

  Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Montezuma Funeral Home for William Thomas Whittington, who died at his home on Engram Street Friday morning.  Death came suddenly to this Montezuma, who had lived in Macon County all of his 73 years. The Rev. B. A. Pafford officiated and interment was at FELTON’S CEMETERY.

  Surviving his passing are his wife, the former Lula Philmon, three daughters, Mrs. E. L. Peaster, Mrs. Hooper Smith and Mrs. Velma Littlebear; and two sons, Clarence and Leonard Whittington.  He left one brother, Lemmie Whittington of Columbus.

  Pallbearers at the rites were William Robert Peaster, Hill Peaster, Luther Bennett, Herman Bartlett, William Parks and L. J. Spradley.

William C. Whiteside Buried In Montezuma Tuesday Afternoon

  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Montezuma Funeral Home for William Crosby Whiteside, aged 76, who died at his home Tuesday morning.

  Mr. Whiteside was born in York County, South Carolina and came to Montezuma thirty years ago.  He had made his home in Macon County since that time. He had been ill for several months before his death.

  The Rev. B. A. Pafford conducted the service and interment was in the FELTON CEMETERY.  Pallbearers were J. D. Mann, R. L. Clements, Frank Denham, Clarence Wicker, W. E. King and J. H. Roberts.

  Surviving his passing are two sisters, Miss Nellie Whiteside and Miss Ella Whiteside and three brothers, John Whiteside,  A. W. Whiteside and T. A. Whiteside.

JAMES   DILLARD    WHITTINGTON

 

J. D. Whittington Died Suddenly On Visit Here.

  James Dillard Whittington, Thomaston textile worker who was originally a Montezuma resident, died suddenly Saturday afternoon, while walking into his mother’s home here.  Medical assistance was called immediately and he was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead within a few minutes.  The time was about four in the afternoon.

  The son of G. W. Whittington and Willie Whittington of Montezuma, the deceased was 39 year old.  He was married to the former Miss Bessie Hardin and had three children, Herman Wallace Whittington, George Dillard Whittington and Evelyn Marie Whittington , who survive him.

  Funeral services were held Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ, Montezuma, with the Rev. B. A. Pafford officiating and interment was in the FELTON CEMETERY.

  In addition to his wife, his mother and his children, he leaves two brothers, Dock Whittington of Montezuma and J. C. Whittington, who is in the army and one sister, Mrs. L R. Godwin of Tampa, Fla.
