Mrs. Mary C. Dasher, daughter of Jonathan Norton, died 24th May at the residence
of her daughter, Mr. Martha McGregor, of Montgomery co., Ga., in her 83d year.
Born on 12th August 1787, she resided for the first thirty years of her life in
Savannah, Ga., under the care of her aunt, Mrs. Dorcas McGarvin. In 1828 she was
married to Caleb Harrison, who died in 1813, leaving one child (the writer)
a little over two years old. Eight years afterwards,
she was married to Joshua Dash, of Tattnal co., who died several years ago,
leaving four children, a son and three daughters. W.

Father Edwin Payne was born in Dinwiddie co., Va., March 24th 1796, and died
August 7th 1870. He emigrated to Georgia when a young
man and located for a time in Morgan county. Here he
was married to his first wife, Miss Theresa N. Barnes. From Morgan, he removed
to Newton co., where he was married to his second wife, Mrs. Mary Cureton. He
was left a widower the second time in 1852, and was
married for the third time to Mrs. Hoyt, widow of Rev. Dr. Hoyt,
a minister of the Presbyterian Church and she lives to
mourn the loss of her second husband. He came to Atlanta, then Marthasville, in

distinguished minister of the M. E. Church. Her mother was a
favorite sister of Bishop Capers of South Carolina. When she was nearly grown
she came to Alabama and made a permanent home in the

Major David L. Hoye was born in Rutherford co., N. C., June 2, 1814, immigrated
with his parents, Nov 1822, to McMinn co., Tenn., where he grew up. He
immigrated to Decatur, Ga., while a young man. Here he
was married to Miss Catharine Ligon. He afterward removed to Gunter's Landing,
Ala., and at a later period to Pontotoc co., Miss. He
died Feb. 28, 1871. Just four days before his death, his brother Col.
A. C. Hoyle died at his residence at Alverado, Texas.
Feb. 24, 1871. His father, the Rev. John Hoyle was for fifty years
a zealous preacher of the Methodist Church. He had lost
two wives (having been thrice married) and nine children. By his first wife he
had four children, only one of whom, a son, is now
living. Of the others, two sons had died in the late civil war, and the other,
a daughter, was murdered by a
negro woman. He has left a widow and three children. G.

Hugh Winwood Proudfoot born in McIntosh co., Ga., March 16th 1795, died June
19th 1871, in Atlanta. In 1839 he united with the Presbyterian Church of Darien,
and afterwards followed his pastor, Rev. N. A. Pratt to
Roswell, where his body now sleeps.

from Tennessee to Dawson during the late war. Thus has passed away in the brief
space of six months, three brothers: Col. A. C. Hoyle
of Texas, Maj. D. L. Hoyle of Mississippi, and Rev. Thos Hoyle of Georgia. W. G.

Thos. Edward Williamson was born in Caswell co., N. C., August 29th 1797 and
died August 13th 1871. He moved from North Carolina to Clark co., Ga., in 1824,
where he resided for some thirty years. He moved to Floyd co., Ga., in 1854,
lived in Glenville on the Coosa River about nine years. He was
a resident of Floyd county about seventeen years and six months.

Wilson M. Dorman died on 7th September 1871 on Maple Swamp in Horry co., S. C.,
in the fortieth year of his age. Mr. Dorman's ancestors were among the first
settlers on the Lake Swamp in Horry County. He leaves a
large family and connections.

Major Charles Irby Shelton was born in Pittsylvania co., Va., and died on 19th
July in Telfair co., Ga., in the 84th year of his age. In the last war with
Great Britain, he was a faithful soldier. He was
married to Miss Jane Ashley Boyd on the 2d Oct 1826. They lost three promising
sons in the Southern army during the late war.

Monroe co., Ga. She was the mother of six children, one by her first marriage

My dear Mantie, the subject of this obituary, and consort of the Rev. E. S.
Tyner of the Florida Conference was born in Talbot county, Georgia, January 1st
1841. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall. She fell
a victim to the malignant fever in Tampa, October 18th 1871. Her father
died when she was an infant. A few weeks after her
marriage which was on April 12th 1850, her mother died.

Franklin C. Pinkston was born near Sparta, Georgia, December 13, 1810 and died
at his own residence near Mt. Meigs, Montgomery co., Ala., Oct. 8, 1871. His
father removed from Georgia to Alabama when he was only three or four years old.
He had been thrice married. His last wife, who weight eight children mourns his
loss, was Aurelia A. Graves.

Wm. Hammond, one of the oldest as he was one of the best citizens of Whitfield
county, died at his residence, near Dalton, on Friday night, Oct. 20th 1871. He
was the son of Job Hammond and Lucy Howard his wife, and was born in Elbert co.,
Ga., in 1792. In 1818 he married Frances Aker of Pendleton Dist., S. C. She only
lived ten years, and in 1832 he married Lucy C. Hudson, widow of Thomas P.
Carter, who survives him. After his second marriage he removed to Franklin
county, and from thence to what is now Bradley co., Tenn, then
a part of the Cherokee Nation. In 1836 he removed to this (then Murray)
county and settled at the home now occupied by his widow. G. G. Smith

Joseph Brown, one of the oldest and most influential citizens of Talbot co.,
Ga., died in his 70th year, near Prattsburg, Talbot co., Ga., on 22 Nov 1871. He
was born in Abbeville Dist., S. C., 25th Sept. 1801. When he was quite
a child, his father died and the widow mother in 1807
removed to her family to Baldwin co., Ga. He was married to Mrs. Mary Schurlock

years, 1 month and 23 days. This in one week a father
has lost three children.

Mrs. Charlotte Hays was born in North Carolina, Nov. 20th 1790. When about two
weeks old she was deprived by death of her mother. Shortly after this, her
father, Capt. John Orr, removed to South Carolina and settled in Pendleton Dist.
(now Anderson) near Ebenezer Church, where she on 19th Jan 1809 was married to
Mr. Thomas Hays. In 1827 she came with her husband to Georgia and settled in
DeKalb co., where in 1831 her husband died, leaving her in charge of
a family of eight children--seven daughters and one
son, and also her father-in-law and mother-in-law. While on a
visit to Gordon co., at her daughter's (widow of Rev. Daniel Groover, deceased)

Col. A. A. Franklin Hill was
born in Oglethorpe county, Ga., Dec. 4th 1836 and died in Barbour county, Ala.,
Jan. 9th 1871 [sic]. He was graduated at Franklin College in 1845 and received
the degree of M. D. in 1848 at Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia. He served
for six years as assistant surgeon in the United States navy, and for
a short time edited the Southern Banner, at Athens, Ga.
In June 1869 he was married to Miss Gazzle Williams, daughter of Maj. Gassoway
Williams, of Alabama. He leaves and wife and child.

Maj. Wiley E. Jones was born in Warren county, Ga., and died in Bibb county,
near Macon, 16th of January 1872. While a child his
father moved to Jones county, where he was reared and educated. He married Miss
Wiggins in his 24th year. Soon after, he moved to Columbus, Ga., where he lived
for thirty years or more. Col. H. J. Lamar, his son-in-law.
