Johnston, died May 10th 1874 in Colleton county, S. C., in the 65th year of
her age. She was a native of South Carolina and
a daughter of Capt. John May, Sen. In early life
she became the wife of Dr. Wm. Carr, by whom she leaves three sons, and was
united in marriage with her surviving husband some twelve years ago.

Mrs. Mary W. T. Jones was born in Amherst county, Virginia, 28th December
1797 and died at the residence of her son, Dr. G. L. Jones, Atlanta,
Georgia, April 10th 1874. Her parents, Wilson and Frances Penn, moved to
Georgia about the year 1808 and on the 13th Oct. 1816 she was married to
Rev. Dabney P. Jones, who was at the time a member
of the South Carolina Conference. Ten children, of the eleven which God gave
her, he took away. Her only living son and one grand-daughter are left.

child. He had buried them all (fourteen).

married the second time in 1835 to Boler Moon. She was left a
widow the second time in 1843. She moved from Clark county to Cobb county and
then to Paulding county in 1838. She lived the last four years of her life with
her son-in-law, Rev. Walter Lanier, in Bartow county, Ga., She died April 28th

Mrs. Mary Douglas, daughter of Elon and Mary Herrington, was born in Moore
county, North Carolina, February 27th 1802; was married to Silas Douglas, Oct.
20th 1818; died June 16th 1874. Ten children were reared to maturity. One son
was slain in the battle of Shiloh. Three of her sons and one grandson are now
ministers of the Gospel. In 1857, sister Douglas with her husband and most of
the family removed to Alabama, and settled near Orion, Pike County. She was
buried in the new cemetery in the city of Troy. A.

Greenville district, S. C., married Mr. Thomas Nash, July 19, 1832, and died
April 30, 1874, aged sixty-one years, eight months and three days. Her husband
died in the summer of 1854, leaving her with nine small children, six of whom
are yet living. She came to Gwinnett county in the water after her husband died,
and has lived ever since in this immediate vicinity. S. A.

marriage to Miss Fannie A. Johnson, of Putnam co., Ga.,
in October 1852, who died July 18, 1868, leaving him with five small children.

remained until 1830 when he removed to Florida. He was a
delegate to the Baltimore Convention which nominated John C. Breckinridge,

days. Mrs. Gooch was first married to Rev. Daniel A.
Ogburn of the South Carolina Conference on 20th October 1859, who died April
16th 1865. She then married her surviving husband, Oct. 2d 1867. She leaves
behind three children, the eldest five years, the youngest sixteen months.

Mrs. Sarah Jones died in DeKalb county, Ga., at the residence of her son,
Capt. J. H. Jones, July 10, 1874. She was born in Pendleton Dist., S. C.,
Oct. 23, 1782. Her parents was named Roberts-- pious members of the Baptist
Church. She became a member of the Methodist
Church, married Robt. F. Jones, who became a
zealous local preacher first in South Carolina, and afterwards in Georgia.
She was the mother of eight boys and four girls. This family moved in 1823
to Gwinnett county, and in a few years to DeKalb
county. Two of her sons became ministers of our Church, the Rev. Jas. Jones
has served the Georgia Conference since 1835 and is still effective; the
other, Rev. W. F. Jones, is an acceptable local preacher in Texas. She
leaves a living posterity of two or three hundred.
Her son, grand-son, and great-grand-son are all members of the North Georgia

My mother, Mrs. Penelope Moreland, was born Oct. 30, 1796, and died Aug. 12,
1874, at the residence of her son-in-law, Wm. S. Barnett, in Grantville, Coweta
county, Ga. Her maiden name was ousley. When she was quite young, her parents
removed from Baldwin to Jones county, and both died early, leaving her and one
brother, the late Rev. Newdaygate Ousley, orphans. She was married to the Rev.
Isaac T. Moreland, a local Methodist preacher, in 1814.
My father died in Jones county in 1846, soon after which time my mother removed
to Coweta county, and lived as a widow for nearly
twenty-eight years. She was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom survive
her, and seven out of the eight were present to witness her death. John F.

near where the village of Varnsville now stands. He died in Conwayboro, S. C.,

stated he died Sept. 28th 1874. He left a wife and ten
children--five sons and five daughters.

mother moved from North Carolina to Georgia, and settled in Washington County.
Of a family of ten children, she and
a sister Mrs. Stafford, were the only ones for a
long while still living, and they being widowed with no children, took up their

to reside until 1833 when he moved to Gwinnett county, Ga. He leaves
a wife and several children.

North Georgia Conference... Rev. Andrew Gramling, who was born on the 21st of
November 1783 and died in Cherokee county, Ga.... admitted into the S. C.
Conference Jan. 10th 1810 and served the Laurens circuit that year and the
Rutherford circuit in 1811. Brother Gramling was married to Rebecca, daughter of
John and Sidney Foster of South Carolina, Nov. 10th 1811. Mother Gramling was
born Oct. 28th 1794 and survived her husband but a
short time.

a widow the second time; died November 1st 1874, at
Andrew Female College, where she had gone to spend the evening of her life with
her son, A. H. Flewellen, the President of the College.

Richard Holmes, who was for many years a local preacher
of the Methodist Church in Georgia. In 1818, in Monticello, Ga., she was married
to Dr. Norborne B. Powell, late of Cunnenuggee, Ala., whom she survived nearly

age. He was born in Catholic parents in Savannah, Ga., but joined the Methodist
Church in 1817. He married Margaret M. Clarke, of Liberty county, Ga., in 1827,
and soon after emigrated to Florida, and settled permanently in Duval county. He

Mrs. Nancy V. McCraw was born in Brunswick county, Va., March 23d 1800 and died
at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. I. Ezell, near Lochapoka, Ala., Oct.
13, 1874. When a child, her father, John Bass, settled
near Eatonton, Ga., where he spent the remainder of his life. She was married
June 8th 1820 to Shepard B. Saunders, who died in 1840, leaving her with three
children. The eldest, Rev. Wm. B. Saunders, was a
faithful Methodist minister. It was at the home of the second that she died. The
youngest, Rev. R. M. Saunders, is a member of the
Virginia Conference. After living a widow twelve years,
she was married to Major W. M. McCraw. Four years ago last May, she was
a second time left a widow.

married Miss W. B. Newsom, Nov. 12th 1839; subsequently moved to Texas, and died
near Leesburg, Camp county, Texas, January 7th 1875. He has left

in February 1871; died there January 17th 1875. She left a
