WILL OF SLAUGHTER HILL of Macon County, Ga.

In the name of God Amen, I, Slaughter Hill of the County and State aforesaid, being of sound mind and disposing memory but of feeble health as to body, do make this my last Will and testament, in order to dispose of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me in such way as appears to be right and proper
ITEM 1 - My body to be decently buried.
ITEM 2 - Just debts be paid by executor hereinafter named
ITEM 3 - My children by Orra Barfield (no marriage, Slaughter may have been guardian) viz: Winney Ann, Martha, Edward and John Barfield shall have so much of Lot No. 95 as lies south west of Tie Tie Creek in the 1st Dist..of said County, also all the stock, plantation Tools and implements of Husbandry belonging to the place whereon the said Orra Barfield and said children now reside, also the following negros to wit: Mary, a woman about 28; Caroline, a girl about 18, and that said stock and negroes be kept together on said lot or settlement of Land to be enjoyed jointly together by their Mother, Orra Barfield with them until the youngest one shall become of age, then Land, negros & stock may be sold and equally divided between the children, share and share alike.
ITEM 4 - My Plantation be kept up and my property kept together uintil by the proceeds of the crops, all my debts shall be paid.
ITEM 5 - My beloved wife [Sarah E. Waters Hill] to have a certain Black Mare named Betsey Blow, Executors pay over to her the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars which was settled upon her by me previous to our intermarriage and that having made this ample provision for my beloved wife and given her my favorite animal, I have done all for her that I feel I can or ought to do in Justice to my affectionate children. This in lieu of Dower and no other portion of my
estate either real or personal.
ITEM 6 - All the rest to be equally divided between my children by my first wife [Elizabeth Maulden Hill]; William W. Hill, Caleb F. Hill, Howard Hill, Julia Ann Hill Babb and Frances C. Hill and the infant child of my present wife named Jefferson Davis Hill, share and share alike. Wm. W. Hill, Caleb F. Hill and Julia Babb accounting for advancements of property heretofore made to them Except that of a quarter of an acre of land embracing the Grave Yard, near to the residence on my plantation. I desire that said Graveyard be kept up by my Executors and not sold or any way disposed of.
ITEM 7 -Property given to Julia Babb and children to be free from debts of husband. Property to Frances C. Hill to be free from debts of any man she may marry.
ITEM 8 - If practicable, estate to be divided with out a sale.
ITEM 9 - Hereby revoking all other wills, I appoint my affectionate sons, William W. Hill and Caleb F. Hill as Executors this 20th day of May 1861. Slaughter Hill

MACON COUNTY, GEORGIA June Term Court 1861.

Given to his daughter, Julia BABB - Mily, age 24; Maria, age 22; Rosetta, age 3; Joe, age 1; Daniel, age 17; and one other girl, name not listed, age 16; 18 Jan 1864

Sold to E.W. MILLER - Helen and 3 children, George, Ann, and Monroe, ages unknown; 3 Feb 1863

Sold to John HILL - Henry Clay, age unknown; 3 Feb 1863

Sold to John E. BABB - Abraham, age unknown; 3 Feb 1863

Sold to John M. ROBINSON - Richard and Peyton, ages unknown; 3 Feb 1863
