staff of Oaks
Nursing Home with delicious refreshments.
[Note: Annie Belle [Kelley] Barfield was born on January 2, 1888 to
William Frank Kelley and Nancy Margaret [Cromer] Kelley Odom.

was married to Howard Lee Barfield in January of 1905 in Macon Co.,
Ga.

FAMILY REUNION OF THE LATE THERON NATHANIEL
ATHON
A Family Reunion of the T. N. Athon Family was held on Sunday, August 4, at
the country home of Mr. T. N. Athon, deceased and where his wife, Mrs. Vera
Athon resides. All the living children and most of the grandchildren were
present and a bountiful dinner was enjoyed.
Those present were M/M Clifton Athon of Perry, M/M Henry Smith, Gail and
Paul of Montezuma; M/M Bill Sowers and Martin Sowers of Danville, Va.; M/M
J. T. Athon and children of Augusta, Ga.; M/M Scotty Smith, Scott and
Rosemary of Ashburn, Ga.; M/M Troy Athon, Jr. and Bill Athon of Conyers,
Ga.; M/M Larry Athon, Michelle and her friend, Sylvia of Lawrenceville, Ga.;
M/M James Heath, Michelle and Anita of Woodland, Ga.; M/M Ronald Scruill of

Descendants of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Raper of Dooly County met
January 20, 1980 at the Page Clubhouse in Byromville for a family reunion
and to celebrate the birthday of Mrs. Rosa Middlebrooks, whose birthday was
January 21.
All seven living children attended and are Mrs. George Middlebrooks of Fort
Valley, Mrs. Rosa Middlebrooks of Montezuma, Cham Raper of Montezuma, Mrs.
Maggie Middlebrooks of Montezuma, Frank Raper of Oglethorpe, Mrs. Beatrice
Whittington of Warner Robins and Ralph Raper of Montezuma.

CELEBRATE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tarrer of Ideal will
celebrate their Fifieth Wedding Anniversary on the fifteenth of December.
Mr. and Mrs. Tarrer's children, Mr. and
Mrs. David Tarrer, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Tarrer and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Tarrer
will host an Open House on December 15 from two thirty to four thirty at the
Ideal Baptist Church in honor of their parents.
The couple was married December 24,
1935 in Schley County. She was the former Ada Brewer, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Brewer of Ellaville. They have 3 sons and 9
grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Elton P. Chapman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a
reception on the afternoon of December 23, at the Lutheran Church Parish House
in Oglethorpe. The reception was hosted by their children, Mrs. Jane C. King and
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Chapman. Guests enjoyed refreshment served by Martile, Jeff
and Robert King and Kathy, Brenda and Bobby Chapman. Mrs. Louise Bentley
prepared the delicious refreshments and cake.

Mrs. and Mrs. Monroe Crook to Celebrate 70th Anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Crook will be honored by their children with a reception
Sunday, February 12 in observance of their Seventieth Wedding Anniversary - Mr.
and Mrs. Crook were married on February 15, 1914 in Esto, Florida.
The anniversary reception will be given at the Methodist Fellowship Hall in
Montezuma between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 pm Sunday, February 12. All friends
and relatives are invited to attend and the family request that the honor of
their guests presence be the only gifts.

CELEBRATE 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Howard Barfields To Celebrate 60th Anniversary Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard L. Barfield of Ideal will celebrate their 60th wedding
anniversary on Sunday, January 17, at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Herbert
Phillips, near Ideal.
Relatives and friends are invited to call between the hours of 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Barfield, the former Annie Belle Kelley, were married on January 8,
1905 at the home of the bride, located only a short distance from the present
home of the Barfields. They are the parents of nine children, five of whom are
living. They are Mrs. Herbert Phillips and Mrs. Raymond Dawkins of Ideal, Mrs.
Fred Souter of Oglethorpe, Lee Barfield of Ideal and Edward Barfield of
Americus. They have fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Hills Retire From Newspaper Route [Picture - Pg. 4 A]
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hill, [Charlie and Janie] have retired as paper carriers for
Montezuma residents after approximately 22 years service. The Hills delivered
the Constitution for 15 years and The Telegraph for seven years. They now wish
to thank their many friends, their customers, whom they have had the priviledge
to serve, over the years and also their "helpers", some of them in college, in
service or employed in other occupations.
Upon retiring, Mrs. Janes says she will have more time to continue her quilting
and will sew for her children and grandchildren. She also crochets afghans and
tableclothes for family members. Mr. Charlie says he will fish and read.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill will also have more time to visit with their children who are
Mrs. Gladys Raburn, Mrs. Charlotte Smith, Mrs. Jean Pattishall and Mrs. Patsy
Morgan.

MRS. JAMES MONROE POSEY HONORED ON ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY - August 30th.

Mrs. James Monroe Posey who resides with her daughter, Mrs. Hinton Harris and
Mr. Harris in Montezuma, was recently honored on the occasion of her one
hundreth birthday.
Approximately seventy guests were present for a barbecue dinner served at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Harris August 30, A beautiful three-tiered birthday cake
decorated in pink and white was cut and served along with the buffet dinner.
Mrs. Posey, the former Josephine Brooks, was born and reared at Reynolds, Ga.
She is the widow of the late Rev. James Monroe Posey. The couple reared three
sons, now deceased and three daughtgers. The daughters are Mrs. Harris, Mrs. C.
B. Wade of Barnesville, and Mrs. E. J. Amerson of Lilly.
Mrs. Posey has 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 18
great-great-grandchildren.
The oldest grandchild present was Albert Wade, age 60, of Lake Wales, Fla. and
the youngest family member attending was a great-grandchild, Renee Posey, age
two months of Brookdale, Fla.

Prospect Cemetery, 2 & 1/2 miles N.W. of Reynolds, Taylor Co., Ga.]

Pierce of Marshallville celebrated her 87th birthday on Sunday, October 6,
1985 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Barfield of Oglethorpe, Ga. Her
birthday was Tuesday, October 1st.
After a
delicious meal was served, Mrs. Pierce opened her gifts.
There were 7
generations of her family present to help her celebrate. They were: Mr.
