History: In May 1864 there was a battle fought in this area called the Battle of New Hope Church. It was fought during General Sherman's march to Atlanta. This Battle along with the Battle of Pickett's Mill and Alatoona Pass were all Southern victories. There were, however, a great many casualties on both sides. In this cemetery we find many grave markers with no names or dates - the type used to mark graves of dead soldiers during the Civil War. |
