Following a lengthy illness Rela J. "Polly" Buford passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at WellStar Paulding Nursing Unit.

Born November 19, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of Paul E. and Rela Jones. She attended Atlanta public schools and was a graduate of Dallas High School in Dallas, Georgia. She graduated from West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Veal and her husband, Horace Buford.

She is survived by her sister, Peggy (O.O.) Robbins of Atlanta; daughter, Karen (Terry) Mathews of Melbourne, Florida; her son, Stephen (Mary) Veal of Dallas, Georgia, two grandchildren, Ross Mathews of Melbourne, Florida and Lindsay Veal of Dallas, Georgia; two great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Joe Ann Lawrence of Dallas, Georgia; one niece, one nephew and many cousins.

She had a lengthy and successful business career and an extensive community leadership and volunteer history. These included 82 Airborne, New Beginnings Early Childcare Center, American Business Women's Association, Lupus Foundation of America Georgia Chapter and The Salvation Army.

She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian denomination for many years, but, locally supported the ministries of Pine Ridge First Congregational Methodist Church and the First Baptist churches.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 4:00 pm at Pine Ridge First Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. C.L. Powers and Capt. Roni Robbins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice.

The Cremation Society of the South was in charge of arrangements.
