21 June 1883 The funeral sermon of the late J.M. Matthews, son of ex-sheriff Matthews, was preached at New Hope on Sunday, the 10th by Rev. J.R.T. Brown, assisted by Zedekiah Land, from the text Mark 5-36. “What would it profit a man if he gained the whole world and lose his own ___.” The congregation which was very large, was deeply moved by the power and eloquence of the preacher and the spirit was alive in many hearts. |
