Final Rites for Leonard Baines Held
Funeral services for George Leonard Baines, Sr., 74, of Route 2, Rockmart, were held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. at the Euharlee Baptist Church. Mr. Baines passed away in a Rome hospital Thursday, January 24. The Rev. Walden Abernathy and the Rev. Owen Holland officiated at the rites, and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Freeman Harris Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born in Paulding County on April 27, 1905, Mr. Baines was the son of the late Wesley and Sarah Little Baines. He operated an Extermination business and was a member of Euharlee Baptist Church. He was a trustee of the Building Committee and was a member of the Men's Bible Class of the church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucile Jenkins Baines, of Rockmart; three sons, George Baines, of Aragon; Leonard Baines, Jr., and Walter Baines, both of Rockmart; one daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Spain, of Rocknmart. Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive. Active pallbearers were Donnis, Randy, Rickey, Ross and Lee Baines and Chuck Garrison. The deacons of the Euharalee Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers. (The Rockmart Journal, January 31, 1980)
