Willard L. Deems, age 94, of 1901 Taylorsville Road, Rockmart, passed away Sunday, October 13, 1996 at his residence. Mr. Deems was born March 19, 1902 in Polk County. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Annie Mae Cochran Deems; parents, Jim Parkerson and Annie Lane Deems; son, Raiford Deems: five brothers and a sister. Survivors are: six sons, Coy Deems, Floyd Deems, Ravon Deems, Alton Deems, Fain Deems and Mack Deems, all of Rockmart; five daughters, Jewell Pendergraft, Agnes Bowers, Onita Lindsey, all of Rockmart, Sara Moates of Aragon, and Joyce Pascoe of Rome; sister, Eula Carlton of Rome; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lawrence Garrett and Rev. Andy Fennell officiating. Interment followed in Floyd Creek Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
