Mr. Virgil Duke Passes Away Here Monday
Mr. Virgil Madison Duke, 301 College St. Cedartown, passed away Monday afternoon in a local hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Duke was born in Polk County Oct. 20, 1885 and spent most of his life in Cedartown. He spent 18 years in Texas and the Mid-West and returned to Cedartown in 1928 and founded the Duke Ice and Coal Company.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Stella Meadows of Cedartown; one sister, Mrs D. C. Sanders of Cedartown and one brother, Mr. S. W. Duke of Cedartown.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at his home with Rev. J. B. Hunt and Dr. Walter Moore officiating. Entombment followed in Westview Abbey in Atlanta.
Pallbearers will be M. J. Florence, J. H. Lopez, Carlton McGinnis, J. Hamilton Grant, John P. Pickett, Julius Cobb.
Olin Gammage Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
