Mr. Ralph Lamar Ely, age 57,
of Aragon, passed away Saturday, March 14. 1998
at his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Ely was born July 8,
1940, in Floyd County. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Prior to his illness, he worked as an Industrial Electrician. He was a
Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Junior Walter and Ethel Estelle Dover Ely; a brother, Ray Ely; and a
sister
Evelyn Ely. Survivors include his wife Thelma Ely of Aragon; a
daughter,
Dora Williams of Rockmart; a son, Stephen Ely of Rockmart; a son,
Stephen
Ely of Cedartown; two grandchildren; six sisters, Clara Mae Deems of
Cedartown, Mildred Massick of Kansas City, MO. Shirley Patterson of
Fairmount, Retha Pritchett of Aragon, Ruth Quarles of Okeechobee, FL.
and
Agnes Pope of Aragon; three brothers, Carl Ely of Silver Creek, Junior
Ely
of Rome and Ronald Ely of Aragon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Ely were held Monday, March 16, 1998 at 2 p.m.
in
the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy
Chambers and the Rev. Wendell Owens officiating. Interment followed in
the
Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Ely, Donnie
Beck, Danny Ely, Sonny Deems, William Robinson, and Tommy Haney.
Honorary
pallbearers were Roy Thaxton and Mitchell Brumbelow. Alvis Miller & Son
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
