General Virgil McBurnett, Jr.
General Virgil McBurnett, Jr., Rockmart Road, died Thursday evening (Feb. 17, 1977) in a Rome hospital following several months illness.
He was born in Floyd County Feb. 11, 1921, son of Mrs. Cassie Mae Smith McBurnett and the late General Virgil McBurnett, Sr. He had resided in Rome and Floyd County most of his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Oostanaula Lodge 113 F & AM and the Low 12 Club. He had been a fireman for 13 years and was a veteran of World War 11 having served in the U.S. Army. For several years he owned and operated a service station.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Allen, Miss Christine McBurnett, Rome; two sisters, Mrs. Margie Cagle, Rome, Mrs. Sara Climer, Atlanta; his mother, Mrs. Cassie Mae McBurnett, Rome.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the North Chapel of the funeral home with the Revs. Lee Jordan and Russell Head officiating.
Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and at other hours will be at the residence.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Teasley, Charles Lambert, Billy Lambert, Norman Climer, B.W. Welcher and Fletcher Lee.
Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
