MRS. N. A. NETTLES DIED AUG. 28
On Wednesday afternoon, August 28th at 3 o'clock, the gentle spirit of Mrs. Nancy Anne Nettles winged its way to Heaven, after an illness of about six months.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Stewart, and the Wife of the late Mr. W. A. Nettles, who preceded her in death forty four years ago. She was one of the best loved pioneer women in the county, and to all who knew her she was "Grandma Nettles", the friend of everybody.
She was eighty-two years of age and until about six months ago had enjoyed excellent health.
Mrs. Nettles was the mother of eight children, five of which are living. Her oldest child, Mary, died in infancy, and the others, Mrs. C. W. Statham, Sr. and Mrs. T. R. (Lizzie) Ferguson died twenty-five and eight years ago, respectively.
She is survived by her five children, who are Mrs. Mollie Cummings, Mr. W. S. Nettles, or Arden, N. C., Mr. C. B. Nettles, Mrs. C. W. Chandler of Arcadia, Fla., and Mrs. Eula Hunt. She also leaves thirty-one grand-children, eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her going.
Funeral Services were conducted from the new Prospect Baptist church, where she has been a devoted member for so long, and interment was in the local cemetery. Rev. J. E. Smith, pastor of the church and Rev. S. H. Pendley, pas of the Aragon Baptist Church and former pastor of the New Prospect Church, were the officiating ministers.
The pall bearers were grandsons of the deceased, who were: Messrs. W. V., W. M., and D.L. Cummings, W. Nettles, Fred B. and Charles B. Ferguson, and Winfred and Ernest Statham.
The beautiful music was furnished by Mrs. Annie Ferguson, Miss Idola Sorrells, Messrs. L. Y. Allgood and Misses Garner, with Mrs. Minnie Mundy at the organ.
The immense crowd and the numerous floral offerings proved the high esteem with which this grand old lady was held.
The grave has claimed the body, god and Heaven have claimed the spirit and we here on earth claim and shall profit by her good influence which will live on and on.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. W. S. Nettles of Arden, N. C., Mrs. C. W. Chandler of Arcadia, Fla., Messrs. W. Nettles and Fred B. Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Sorrells and sons and daughter, Russell, Billy Win and Mary, Mrs. Cortez Moore, Rev. M. C. Ballew and children, Conley, Martha and Mary of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. Woodson Cummings of Powder Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cummings and little son, Billy, of Auburn, Ga., Mrs. C. B. Stewart, Messrs. Roscoe and Commodore Stewart. of Buchanan; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Chandler and Mr. Hunt, of Cedartown.
