Dorothy Ann Sanford
Mrs. Dorothy Ann Sanford, 82, 11 Cashtown Rd., Aragon, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007 at her residence following several months of declining health.
Mrs. Sanford was born in Bartow County, Ga. on Sept. 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Thomas Powell and Lizzie Free Powell. She had been a resident of Polk County for the past 41 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church.
Five sisters, one brother and a great granddaughter preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Mr. Ray Sanford or Aragon to whom she was married on December 4, 1943; daughter, Mrs. June Holmes and her husband Henry of Taylorsville; sons, Mr. Ken Sanford and his wife Brenda of Dallas and Mr. Ronnie Sanford and his wife Jean of Rockmart; brother, Mr. Clyde Powell of Taylorsville, 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2007 in the Cornerstone Baptist Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Vaughn and Rev. Greg Hames officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery. Grandsons serving as pallbearers included David Hicks, Todd Sanford, Forrest Sanford, Kristopher Sanford, Terrell Kidd, Todd Whitner and Scotter Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers were Burney Collins, Cubby Powell, Jerry Free, Al Courrier, Mark Cantrell, Cary Hayes, Grady Hames, Curtis Folsom and Pete Hazelwood.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
