Mr. Gordon Draper Sargent
Mr. Gordon Draper Sargent, age 80, of 87 Sherwood Drive, Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday April 25, 2007 following an extended illness. Mr. Sargent was Born on May 4, 1926 in Greenville, Mass. & was a retired Chemical Engineer for The Diamond-Shamrock Corp. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Of Cedartown. He was a veteran, serving during World War II with the United States Marine Corp. He was a graduate of M.I.T. & He & Mrs. Sargent met for the First time in 1950 at the Emory Methodist Church, Jersey City, NJ. In December of 2002 the Sargents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with Family & Friends at their sides. Mr. Sargent was an avid Historian and had authored the Polk County Pictorial History for the Polk County Historical Society. He was also very Active in the Boy Scouts of America & was a former Eagle Scout.
Mr. Sargent is Survived by His Wife, Ninette Sargent. His Son & Daughter in law, Gordon & Laurie Sargent. His Daughter & Son in law, Sally & Paul Nachlas. Five Grand- Children, Tyler Sargent, Ben Nachlas, Will Nachlas, Aimee Sargent & Elisa Sargent.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gordon Draper Sargent will be conducted on Saturday April 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Cedartown with Rev. David Grove officiating. Interment will follow on Monday April 30, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia, With the Georgia National Cemetery’s Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. Mr. Sargent will Lie in State at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the Funeral Hour, with the Family receiving Friends during that Time.
