George H. "Red" Scott
Mr. George H. "Red" Scott, 93, 235 Mountain Way, Rockmart, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at his residence following several months of declining health.
He was born in Rockmart on Jan.24, 1915, a son of the late Reuben "Rube" Scott and Fannie Ludessa Gentry Scott. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S.Marine Corp.
He served as Mayor of Rockmart from 1974 to 1983, was a former member of the Rotary Club serving as President in 1980-81, served as President of the Rockmart Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors of the Coosa Valley Development Authority and was Grand Marshall of the Homespun parade in 2006. The Rockmart Bank employed him for 28 years and following retirement, he owned and operated Rock City Enterprises from 1975 to 1995.
His first wife, Mrs. Jimmie Lou Scott on July 4, 1971 and one sister and two brothers preceded Mr. Scott in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clara Head Scott, Rockmart to whom he was married on May 23, 1975; Rita A. Martin of Rockmart and Susan West of Taylorsville; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Greg Thompson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Minister Alvis Miller conducting the service.
Pallbearers were Bob Culver, Bryan Culver, Chris Culver, Lucas Culver, Dr. Charles M. Smith,III and Danny West.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
