Sons of Levi Harrell, I RS from SC Harrell, Levi II
born Sept. 16, 1777 in NC and died December 21, 1865 on
his plantation in Pulaski County, GA. He married in 1806 (most likely in SC),
Elizabeth Holt who was born in Maryland. He was in Pulaski Co., GA prior to
August 4, 1813 when he is counted on the muster roll of a detachment of militia
stationed at Fort Green and Fort Laurence, Capt. Allen Tooke Commanding. He was
living in Capt. William Hendley's district of the county.
Harrell, Asa I
born 1779 in NC and died 1851 Pulaski Co., GA. Served
during the War of 1812, as a private under Gen David Blackshear. Asa married in
1815, Elizabeth Keen, daughter of Harrell, William
born 1784 in NC and died in Telfair Co., GA prior to May
23, 1866 when his will was probated. He served from Aug. 14 to Sept. 20, 1813 in
Capt. Allen Tooke's Co., Pulaski Co., Ga. He married in about 1807, Mary
Catherine Bass who was born in NC in 1786. Harrell,
Isaac Son
of Levi Harrell, I Hendley, William, Capt.
son of Elmore Hendley and Susannah Hendley, born in
Scotland. Came to America before the Revolutionary War. Was in Wake Co., NC
where he married his wife, Amelia Ann Horton daughter of David Horton and Anne
(Olive) Horton. They moved to GA and Settled in Pulaski County.
Horton, Amelia Ann (referred to as
Millie Ann or Melia in some records) Father, David Horton served in the Indian
wars, was a private in the first southern battalion of militia of Orange Co.,
NC. I have a copy of David's will which I copied at the NC State Archives. I
also have a copy of a RS claim for land in Wake Co., NC for David for his
service during the RW. There is a connection to the Arundel/Arrendal family but
I have not yet identified through which of those lines. The connection is most
likely through Anne e Horton's line. See: Benj. Arrendal in Wake Co., NC son of
Richard and Elinor. wife of William Hendley, RS from NC. Daughter of David and
Anne Horton. David Horton's line goes back to John Budd and Barnabus Horton, two
of the 13 Puritans who purchased Long Island, NY from the Indians and settled
the Southold Long Island, NY area. An eight foot tall monument is over Barnabus
Horton's grave on Southold LI, NY. The Horton home built in 1659, was still
standing and occupied by Horton's as late as the 1940s.
William Holt Harrell son of Levi I, married Sophia Hendley daughter of Captain William Hendley and Amelia Ann Horton, known as Millie Ann. Levi Holt Harrell was a son of William Holt Harrell and Elizabeth Holt and a twin brother to William Lewis Harrell. (both twin brothers, Levi Holt and William Lewis Harrell home from the civil war with a leg missing and wearing a peg leg. ) Peg leg story related to me by my father's cousin, Pauline Willcox, and confirmed by my father from family tradition taught to him by his Grandmother, Elizabeth Daniel Harrell Luke who reared him from the age of 8 months. Levi Holt Harrell, twin to William Lewis Harrell, married Mary Jane "Mittie" Willcox, daughter of John Willcox, III and Louisa Conner. Mary Jane named a daughter Elizabeth Daniel Harrell which is a bit puzzling, since Daniel was the surname of her father's first wife, Mary Daniel.
