Willis the clerk. The chairman said the purpose of the call was to nominate candidates for teh State Convention, and to agree on the principles of their action, if elected by the county.

James T. May moved a committee of twenty, to be taken by the chair from all parts of the county, to prepare and report. Carried.

These were the Committee: James T. May , chairman, W.S. Wallace, J. T. Gray J. Howell, A. McCants, H.H. Long, B. Stewart, Willis Hobbs, J. Stallings, R. B. Rucker, John Sturdivant, Willis McLendon, J.D. Parker, L. Q.C. McCrary and D.W. Miller.

The committee through their cairman after deliberation, said their counsel had been harmonious, and witout a dissent, had resulted in the following:

                                                 REPORT

Wheareas, it becomes necessary in the present crisis, for our State to take decided action in view of a survey: The South has been grievously wronged, and Georgia is a common sufferer with her Southern sisters. Our case demands that we shold earnestly insist on speedy redress. Yet, as our affections still cling to the Federal Union, in spite of cause for alienation, we are disposed to prove the sincerity of our love by an effort to obtain justice and restore harmony without a political severance from our Northern confederates. Be it therefore

RESOLVED, That our State Convention, we desire, should calmly consider of our grievance and adopt such measures of resistance as, in it's judgement, are best calculated to redress our wrongs and protect our rights in the Union--and refer its action to the people for ratification or rejection.

RESOLVED, That if we can save our honor and secure out rights in the Union, we prefer the sure guarantees of our present Federal Constitution to the hazards of seperate sovereignty, or the contingencies of another compact.

RESOLVED, That if our just appeals be unheeded and be followed by persistent injury, we wish our State to become her own arbiter---to elect her remedy in the parth of constitutional sanction and usage, or our of it---(Underlined)---in the wilds of revolution.

RESOLVED, That we are decidedly in favor of having the joint counsels of all Slave States. To this end we concur with the suggestion of a Southern Conference, to be held at Atlanta, or other fit place, before the middle of next Feb., to consider of our injuries, our rights, and our remedies.

On Motion of James T. May, the preamble and resolutions were seperately put to vote and severally carried by little less than unanimity.

On motion of Jerry Wilchar, the nomination of delegates was taken up. It was agreed that the choice was made by acclamation. Mr. Wilchar moved hthat the candidates should be William J.F Mitchel and Henry H. Long, who were severally chosen, nem. Com., They were soon informed of their nomination, by a committee. They accepted, came before the Convention and declared their adherance to conservative principles as expressed in the adherance to conservative principles as expressed in the preamble and resolutions just adopted.

On Motion, it was agreed taht a meeting be held at the Court House saturday, 15th inst. to nominate candidates for County Officers.

Messrs. D. W. Miller, W. S. Wallace and James T. May addressed the meeting.

RESOLVED, That these proceedings be published in the Georgia Telegraph, CItizen and Messenger, Macon; and the enquirer and Times, Columbus, and such other papers as favor conservative principles. All these papers but the first will please copy from the Telegraph.

Allen: Sarah Spinks had a brother, William Carr Spinks, who married Marian F. Smith, Nov. 22, 1825 in Jones County, GA. Do you have any information on William and Marian or any children they may have had?

John Edwards was executor of Rolly Spink's will dated Apr. 22, 1838, proved Mar. 4, 1839 in Jones County. Rolly S. Edwards was a witness. Ken Smith <KenCade@net-3.net>

Ken, I am descended from Edwards-Spinks-Roquemore lines. My ggg grandfather was Rolly Spinks; his daughter Nancy Sanford Spinks ROQUEMORE was my gg grandmother. Sarah Spinks EDWARDS was Nancy's sister. I'm especially interested in seeing if John S. EDWARDS, Sarah's spouse, is part of my Edwards line. My gggg grandfather was William Edwards b. abt 1751 and he had a brother named John b. abt 1760; and a son John b. about 2/8/1786. I'm descended from Thomas Lawson EDWARDS thence William Posey Edwards --Augustus Lawson EDWARDS -- James H. EDWARDS --Susan Mabel Roquemore EDWARDS Tinkler. If you have any info on John S. Edwards please let me know. As to Rolly Spinks, his ancesters are one great mystery several of us have been trying to unravel. Thanks. Jim T.
