John Treutlen was a leader in Georgia during the American Revolution and helped to write Georgia's first constitution. In 1777 he became Georgia's first elected governor.
Treutlen County was created by Act of Aug. 21, 1917 from Emanuel and Montgomery Counties

Truetlen is a new county your ancestors may have lived in several counties without ever moving from Emanuel or Montgomery. Records before 1917 will be in the counties Treutlen was carved from.
