Little Harris Betts Dead
- O -

Age, about 9 months.

Mr. R. L. and Mrs. Emma Betts are the bereaved parents of little Harris, who died Monday morning.

The following lines are contributed to his memory:

A tiny bud was plucked one day
  From off its earthly stem.
And placed within the hand of Him
The Lord who died for them.

He smiles upon the special flower,
As safe He hold it there,
And knows it is forever free
  From blight of earthly care.

To brighten Heaven with its smiles
  To glorify Him there –
O, could you ask a brighter crown –
  The baby one to wear?

STRAYED OR STOLEN

One dark bay mare mule 4 years old left my lot on the 25 day of April.  A liberal reward will be paid for her return or information of her whereabouts.

Fire Sunday Morning
- O -

Fire broke out in the boiler room of J. S. Betts & Co’s planer mill about 9 o'clock Sunday morning.  The watchman was caught napping or at another part of the grounds, and the fire broke through the roof about the time the alarm was given.

There was no steam up in any of the boilers, and things looked pretty bad for a few minutes.  But the company is always prepared for a fire.  The hose reel was rolled out and water turned on from the tank.  Two streams of water were turn on and in 30 minutes the fire was out.  Nearly all the men in town responded to the alarm.
