From Patricia
Ball.
On Hwy 41 North in Turner County
(from Tifton go about two miles past Ashburn, the graves will be on the
right and kinda across the road will be a place that appears to be a welding
shop and a church next door):
Elias D. Whiddon
1 Co, 15 GA Militia, CSA
1838-1865
Nancy Whiddon
3-13-1818
1-10-1864

There seems to have been another
headstone for Elias D. Whiddon at one time with the dates:
born June 13, 1817 and died January
11, 1865. From Bob Gladden: died in Peckville, Turner County,
Georgia. Census records indicate birth of 1817 as correct.
There was also a Elias D. Whiddon, Jr., the son of Elias D. Whiddon's brother,
William Whiddon. More research is being done to determine which Elias
D. Whiddon this marker belongs to.
Update from Billy
Vickers, 23 January 2007:
The date on the tombstone for Elias
Whiddon is not his birthdate. I ordered
and placed the marker a few years
ago and I made a mistake. The 1838 date
is the year he was married, not
born. He was my GGG grandfather.
